RETRACTION

RE: Disquiet As America Places Nigerian Minister On Watchlist

Our attention has been drawn to the story with the above title, published in the Sunday Independent newspaper of April 11, 2021.

We have since realized that the information contained in the story has not been verified to be true.

The Minister mentioned in the story, Alhaji Isa Ali Ibrahim, also known as Sheikh Pantami, is not known to be on American Terror Watch List, nor is he linked to terror organisations.

We regret and sincerely apologise for the embarrassment our story has caused the Honourable Minister whom we hold in high regard.

So why did the newspaper publish such news without first verifying the authenticity of the story. Was it done in error or done with the intent to malign his person? Did they do such so as to awaken the spotlight of the FBI on him and later retract the claim so that the end justifies the means? Was it done so as to scare anyone who wishes to put their Muslim identity into public domain just like mallam Pantani has boldly done. Was it borne out of hate or can we conclude the newspaper and its management are trash and incompetent?

Though the minister might hold some unpopular views, but let's be sincere it's quite disappointing to see that one day someone can just wake up run one or two propaganda on our newspaper just to bring you down just to settle some personal scores...

There are people who will say that Daily Independent was wrong to retract it because they have a crystal ball with which they can see the so called CIA watchlist and Pantami's name is on it
