Happy birthday sir!

Ain't you tired of the epileptic power situation in your area? Why are you so comfortable buying fuel daily and servicing your generator weekly? How do you feel going out at 1am to put off your generator? Is your conscience not pricking you each time your generator pollution affects your estate? If you can read this then you're lucky. You need a SOLAR POWER SYSTEM TODAY

Finidi's younger brother, Iginaware George was killed during an FA Cup match at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba in Ibadan in 1995.

Stationery Stores were playing against Rangers in Ibadan. Iginaware played for Rangers. Then there was crowd trouble and violence erupted. Some people claimed that Shooting Stars supporters, who were rivals with Stationery Stores, came to the stadium to fight stores supporters. Others claimed that the violence was started by Stores supporters.

Anyway, there was pandemonium and everybody ran for cover. Gunshots rang out amid the pandemonium and Iginaware lay on the ground bleeding. Some people say that the shots were fired by fans, while others say they were fired by the bodyguards of the military governor who was also at the stadium.

The governor, Colonel Chinyere Ike Nwosu, rushed Iginaware George to the hospital and prayed the rosary with him along the way, but Iginaware George died.

I had a friend whose father was a football star in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. His father also coached the Super Eagles in the 1980s and the Super Falcons in the 1990s.

You would think that my friend would love football but it was quite the opposite.

My friend was a tennis star and he represented Nigeria in the 1990s. He hated football. He was always ranting that football fans were violent thugs and that the government paid too much attention to football.

Anyway, Nigeria defeated Greece at the 1994 World Cup and then I saw my friend the next day. He was ranting that the players had gone to disgrace Nigeria. "It was shown all over the world!"

I was confused because we played well and beat Greece. Then someone else told me what he was ranting about. Finidi George's goal celebration!

"That thing was shown on CNN! They'll think that's how Nigerians are" he complained. I couldn't stop laughing.

This strike is so pure. Only few footballers strike this cleanly nowadays. These ones just want to lash through the ball. The likes of Roberto Carlos, lampard, Gerrard, essien, taiwo, Adriano, etc knew where and how to touch the ball for maximum impact. That strike was precision and effort. He knew the position of the goal keeper and applied the apt technique. We called that shooting technique 'NASA' back then.

I was at the stadium for Stationery Stores prior match before that Rangers match in which Stores were beaten by a lowly rated side in a Challenge cup group game. The Shooting supporters started mocking few Stores supporters on ground and Stores supporters as there are known for violence started fighting but they were thoroughly beaten black and blue like armed robbers.
The next match against Rangers was on a Saturday and Stores fans mobilised themselves in thousands from Lagos to Ibadan and they still lost by one goal to nil and this got them angry more and they started fighting and in the they shot sprodically, it was one the stray bullet thet hit Rangers bus that killed Iginaware George.

What ain't true?
The killed. The guy at ibadam..
I think it was Sharks vs Stationery Stores. Or Shooting Stars..
There was the normal protest after the match because of the performance of the home team. Players smuggled into the team bus. Shots fired. Then a mopol guy sympathetic to home team, pointed his gun at the bus and fired. The guy didn't even notice that he has been hit until blood started gushing out and those sitting behind raised alarm..
Brought down from the bus and ofcourse the poor health system failed the young man..
The then military governor was present and actually wept on the scene over the situation.. Hot news in the newspapers those days.. I think the guy has already started playing for the flying eagles as at the time he was killed..

Finidi continued to represent for Nigeria after that tho..
Cool headed, well read man , that Finidi Gorge..
