Why is Nigeria this backward? We have lands I mean lots of Land for Agriculture. My Aunt came from Plateau state recently and I saw pictures of Farms and Farm produce wasting ranging from Watermelons, Tomatoes, cucumber and some spices. I was disappointed and I asked myself if Nigerians offended anybody? What about the South here nko? |

You have raised valid points. We have a problem with our mentality and until that changes, we will continue to wail and wallow in backwardness. You will see unserious people on this thread now talking trash. Let me add that we spend alot of money on religious tourism. Why cant we save that money and send a few people to learn how to build silos that will help preseve food from wasting. Nations have come to Nigeria to take away the best brains to their own glory |

My brother, I usually develop headache anytime I start thinking about Nigeria and her issues. Nigeria is a country where people rationalise wrongs and justify criminality for as long as it has not affected them directly. Our leaders often preach patriotism but when you observe the actions and inactions of these leaders, you wonder if they really understand the meaning of patriotism. I have also wondered on many occasions, if our leaders truly desire and believe in the idea of one indivisible nation like they claim, because their actions don't show that they're honestly desirous of a one Nigeria. Take our healthcare sector for instance, that has become comatose due to several years of maladministration by medical doctors. Buhari came on board with the promise to end capital flight due to medical tourism, yet Buhari has shown no political will to right the wrongs in our health sector. Instead, he would rather fly to the UK to get medical care. The problems are just too much! If our political leaders know that the country is too complex for them to manage, why not split it into smaller units for effective management ![]() 2 Likes |

My brother... You are one of the lone voices in the wilderness... there was a thread on this family section that I read this week... A fellow was ranting on how he was banned by a moderator for teaching people on how to defraud others...He wanted to teach people a new method of defrauding people... According to him, His cousins that lives in Russia told him that the fraud in Nigeria is a child's play compared to the more advanced one in Russia and other bla bla bla he said.... As I read that, I discovered that he was comfortable and confident in his write up.. Probably he doesn't know any better...Or raised in a family that sees nothing wrong with defrauding people... That's the kind of Nigeria, Legacy and impression that people were leaving for their kids and the younger generation...The fact that Nigerians are doing it, it makes it right....That's what I guess they were learning in new GST I02 Nigerian People and Culture curriculum... That's why some of them cannot survive abroad.. they found themselves behind bars or being sentenced to death... it's just sad... Many Nigerians abroad who are doing legitimate businesses are tired of defending the image and impression about Nigeria to other Nationality ... it's just exhausting...How do one defend what was so obvious.. something you see on photos and videos on a daily basis ...When you type in scam on google anywhere you are around the world, The first country it will generate on it's own is Nigeria?....No one cares.. because It has become a norm.. |

Richy4:The greed and selfishness has waxed strong. Nigeria wasn't like this. If it were like this nobody dared protest against Military Generals. Scotland was once in a state of poverty, penury, abject neglect. People were relocating from there to greener pastures and certain individuals discovered that if they don't build Scotland it will be worst than anything on planet Earth. They did and now Scotland is a peaceful place, not to so rich but has lesser violence. We can make things right in this Nation but we're not many again. Selfishness has reduced us to nothing. In the '70s and '80s where was Dubai globally? Where was Cuba who exports Doctors? Nigeria was a rising Economy and a rapid one. To be sincere we can move forward. Splitting the Government into smaller units is a way to go. Creating Provinces is a good way. Cutting down on salary is a better way to go. How much does a US Law Makers receive per year As compared to Entrepreneurs there? We're more selfish and divided than before. It is painful. |

It's poverty Have you been to ghettos, slums or low income areas? You will notice that negative values spreads easily, there is always violence, prostitution, frequent sexual immorality, child abuse, easy circulation of hard drugs, envy, environmental pollution, noise pollution, overpopulation, mediocrity. You will realize that poverty weaponizes religion, especially dark religious doctrines. Poverty breeds corruption, war, tyranny, crime and more poverty etc. In a state of poverty people easily forgo their independent thoughts and cling to tribal mindsets, these "tribes" could be ethnic groups, religion, political parties, ideologies etc, and they tend to see people who do not belong in their "tribe" as enemies, forgetting these people are also human beings like themselves. Poverty sometimes is not the lack of money, its the lack of the physical and mental resources to provide an ideal human living condition. All forms of poverty, both mental and physical is characterized by a craving for something they feel is missing from their lives as a complete human be it money or even sex. And this state reduces one into an animal, that they will join the dark side to get it. What Nigeria and many third world countries suffer from is poverty, and the best ways to handling poverty is through economics, not politics. But it's surprising that most of our leaders and activists seldom talk about economic development, because even human right and free speech thrives where there is a strong economy. |
