We can thank our Igbo brothers for that.
Igbos are the reason why you can't manufacture?

If igbos don't import pharmaceutical, will you still be alive up to this age you are?

Because we are allowing criminal Ghanaians to come into Nigeria to buy goods which is not supposed to be.

because the dollar to naira is being subsidized by the government for importers.
That is a major issue.

We are serving west Africa with imports sourced with Nigerian dollars.

Especially in electronics ,petrol and spare parts.

Reduce the smuggling of petrol from Nigeria to neighbouring West Africa, and you have cut down imports significantly.

It is very bad for us as a country.

We should be a major exporter of those services not importer.
my brother,I saw comments where some are celebrating as if its an achievement, but why are some people dumb, most of the major importers are also top of the list when it comes to export,it shows that their economy is balance and doing very well,we import virtually everything and some olodo are celebrating it,is that a joke or something? They don't know It means we are a huge liability and contributes close to nothing when I comes to generating funds from export..this generation don't reason at all.

And btw, there is no problem with imports.

Infact, the richest countries of the world are big importers.
That is why they have trade deals and trade wars.
You need some level of imports to produce your own exports.

The problem with Nigeria is that we are not importing the right and essential things that we need to make local production work.
Most of our imports are nonsense.

Big imports are not bad, as long as you are exporting much higher.

Imports are not only toothpicks and pencils. We also import used clothes, discarded electronics, used to accept garbage, canned fish and meat freshly caught in our waters or land, prefer bread from imported wheat to cassava bread, bottled water and champagne as "people's drinks" while celebrating importers.

Foreign rice is a delicacy.
Re: WTO: Nigeria Is Number One Importer In Africa by CSTRR: 1:58pm On Apr 16, 2021
For example, if innoson imports 50% of all the engines made in Japan.
That is not bad.

As long as he is exporting cars and getting a higher value for Nigeria.

A win-win for both Nigeria and Japan.
Both countries would never go to war because we are both making money

But most times, that is not the kind of imports Nigeria does.

China's export to America is bigger than to the whole of Africa combined.

But America also exports more wheat to China than the combined agricultural sector of Africa.

That is how big countries roll.

Nigerians will justify anything. A politician is hated till today by those importing and eating stockfish used to heat homes in Europe, as waste of foreign Reserve without any nutritional value.

In other words Nigeria is doomed.... A country that is not producing anything or self sufficient will not survive... Darwin's theorem of survival of the fittest.

Every progressive country dey work hard to export to other countries but we are striving to import everything... Why don't we import a president and house of rep and Senate manners from overseas while we are it.

Easternmind:
Wow,they import even toothpick and fake plastic rice from China.

I am not justifying anything.

99% of Nigeria's imports are useless.

Things we shouldn't import in the first place.

98% of the drugs in Nigeria are imported.

If they don't import, people will die.

Dora will not disagree with me on that.

How many of them are produced in Nigeria?

Either from India or China.

You're ret@ded and pathetic for trying to justify the evil acts of your brothers....most of the legitimate drug importers aren't even your criminal brothers, they're mostly indians, your brothers specialise majorly in importation of anything fake or substandard, your tribesmen were sworn enemies of Dora because of this and wished her dead. If we don't import every god-damned thing people won't die, it would challenge us and our government to support the pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria. But you're too ret@ded to understand this.

FG is too lazy to diversify the economy. Including the bad Economic policies by FG that is fuelled by tribal hatred just to stop a marginalised a section of the country.

Egypt leads Africa in top exporter's list.

Nigeria will soon overtake Egypt and South Africa once the Dangote petrochemical and fertilizer plant becomes fully functional.

We also have Bua refinery, Dangote sugar at awe, in Nassarawa state. When this are fully established, we will become largest exporter in Africa
