Hello everyone, pls I need a candid advice, I had offer to study Msc in Electrical Power system Engineering in university of Greenwich and master in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University but I can just squeeze out the initial payment to have access to CAS for visa application, is it possible one hustle while running the course to pay the school fee and other running expenses ?, knowing full well that student can only allow 20 hours work per week.

In matters like this, it is difficult to answer, different people with different grace and challenges.

To be on a safer side, get your part-payment paid to a reason amount like 3/4 of ur tuition sorted. Get a family member to accomodate you while u hustle to tuition fee balance alone and not together with accomodation fee.

It all about your personalities and the grace you carry!!

University of Salford is stressing the hell outta me... had a 30mins skype interview last week, I just submitted another 500 word essay today. Whereas I have admission for same course in Sheffield Hallam & Leeds Beckett.

Is it a crime to have the university of Salford as your first choice?

@akanniade samething salford did to me.. Meanwhile I got stress free admission to Leeds Beckett over GBP 4000 less than salford on same course. About rounding up my first semester now and am grateful I went the beckett route(more friendly to my pocket. lol). My advise to prospective student would be to get as must industry relevant skill set as possible. And look at industry relevant internships while studying as this would provide you with experience (even if your school doesn't do placement). I am yet to get an internship but I believe I would get one soon. We moueeve

Please I will like to get som clarification about Leeds Beckett as I am considering their conditional offer. I intend to study Data Science (Msc) with placement year. Kindly update me on the minimum deposit required for CAS and I will also like to know if the 14k tuition will be paid for each year of study or split into two for the 2years just like the case of Teesside University. Also, how is student life in Leeds especially with respect to part time Jobs for students.

Respect to all the bosses in the house, u guys have answered most of my questions already and it was fun reading peoples experience and advice here.

Hopefully, I would be coming to the UK in sept, University of Sheffield to be specific for my masters degree.

From personal research, this thread and other UK threads on Nairaland, ve been able to find out that staying in private property is cheaper than staying in school accommodation.

Ensuite room in school accommodation would cost me about £112.50pw but after looking through some property sites online, I was able to get a private property (ensuite room in a shared apartment but kitchen shared) with all bills inclusive about 10 mins walk or 3 mins drive from school for £75pw.

I made some findings about the property agents to confirm that it was not scam (just had to double check) and I also had a friend in Birmingham check out the apartment for me and sent me pictures which I was okay with.

The agent sent me a contract document which I am okay with but have to sign and scan to them. The challenge now is that I have to pay a deposit of £200 to secure the apartment and the rent can be paid when I arrive in Sheffield. The deposit is the only way to secure the apartment and I am willing to pay but I still kinda sceptical.

Do you think it is advisable to go ahead and sign the contact and payment of the deposit considering the fact that I was ok with the internet pictures and the pictures my friend took. I really would not like to lose the apartment Cos it is ensuite and all bills are inclusive as most other apartment ve seen are not ensuite and I kinda like a lil privacy, I also think most apartment close to school might have been taken before resumption.

PS those looking for student apartments just google "student apartment in your area" like student apartment in Birmingham or Aberdeen etc....... Take your time to go through the search result, limit your search to what you want.... like room in House share....., studio......, bills inclusive etc. when you see any property you like, you can use google maps to check the proximity of the property to your school by entering the postcode of your school and the apartment you are considering. Hope this helps someone. Cheers

This post was about 9yrs ago.... Great!!! am certain u have aclamatized many yrs back in the UK... How did you navigate your way? How's d school and how was yur experience?

Leeds is a lovely town, the third largest city in the UK hence there abounds a lot of jobs. There are lots of student jobs around, just register at a local job agency when you get here. Warehouse jobs, care assistant jobs are some of the most popular for students. Thank God for lifting of lockdown retail jobs too would be back. You should be able to pay your rent/and upkeep with this. (Even with min wage and working 20 hours/week). I believe by the time you get unconditional admission you will get a discount of 3k, and even possibly up to 4k. You pay a 5k deposit and balance before end of your course. not sure how the placement year works, because there is no placement year for Jan start (maybe thats why we got the massive discount).

Many thanks for the feedback. I already got 4k discount and I have sent them WAEC scratch card to fulfill the condition of the offer. Hopefully I will get the full payment structure as regards to placement year once the unconditional offer comes in.

Hi guys, I have 4 admission offers to study in the UK (September 2021 intake). I was hoping to get the Chevening scholarship but didn't make it past the first stage.
I can only afford the £2,000 deposit, but can't afford the full tuition fee for any of the schools (least is £14,000), and it's even scary when converted to naira.

Please, what advice can you offer me?

Apply to University of Hull. tuition is between 7k and 9k

Yes, you can get conditional admission to many UK universities without IELTS. However, to get an unconditional admission requires you to pass the test and show it.
You can actually type schools that don't require IELTS in google and start from there. There would be a lot of links to schools are their specific requirements.

I wonder how you guys say what you don't have any knowledge about with so much confidence

Got an unconditional offer at University of Glasgow, September intake 2021. I didn't realize the fee was so high at first so I applied for the scholarship but wasn't shortlisted.

What's the best advice anyone can give?

I've applying to other schools with more affordable fees but yet to get response from any and I don't know how long this will take.

Please I don't want to be a bearer of bad news but as a student just remove your mind from using whatever salary you earn in the UK to pay tuition, it won't work. The reasons are;

1. As a student you're to work only 20 hours a week. That in itself has cut your earnings by half time.
2. From my experience, most UK companies want full-time. It took me months to get a company that will take part-time.
3. When you get here, you can't start work immediately because the quarantine will take two weeks of your time before you can get your BRP, then you have to do documentations like getting your National Insurance number that companies will use to pay you and it will be on your tax record. Mine took about 2 months. When you have all that sorted then comes the job search part, most students do menial jobs like care jobs (you also need to do a criminal check (DBS) before they employ you which might take 2-3 weeks) and warehouse jobs because those ones are in shifts and you can easily do your 20 hours.

All in all, your salary might pay for your accommodation, transport, and food but won't cover the rest of your tuition. So have a back up even if it is for the rest of your tuition and be ready for those long months before you get a job and start making money. It took me 3 months before I got an office job that will take part-time.

Good luck on your journey and be prepared!!!

Certainly if your spouse is considerate of the challenges because it will take much of his time out working long hours. He will work for both accommodation and tuition fee, not easy but possible.
