The armed deputy who was on campus at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school when a gunman massacred 17 people stood outside the building as it occurred and did not go in to engage the shooter, the Broward County sheriff, Scott Israel, said on Thursday.

Deputy Scot Peterson, who was the school resource officer at Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida, resigned from the department on Thursday after being told he would be suspended, Israel said.


Israel said he made the decision after reviewing video surveillance and interviewing witnesses, including the deputy himself. The sheriff says Peterson responded to the building where the shooting took place, took up a position outside a door and never went in.

He did not say if Peterson would face criminal charges
When asked what Peterson should have done, Israel said the deputy should have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer”.

The sheriff said he was “devastated, sick to my stomach. There are no words”.


The guard resigned because he did not act fast enough.

You guys don't just get it. It's called soft targeting. The US police just like their Nigerian counterpart goes after soft targets in order to shine. In Nigeria you will see police go after yahoo boys and traffic offences with full force commando style, but stay away from actual armed robbery or violent crimes.

No US police will take on an active mass shooter without back up, but will easily pursue a 13 year old running away down an alley, and shoot him without a back up because he knows he is a soft target. If the boy did not run but shoots at The policeman, he would not even engage without requesting for a backup.

The picture below has a guy that just shot 3 people surrendering. He surrendered but did not drop his weapon. It would also only take him a fraction of a second to turn his assault rifle on the police. Yet, he walked home safely with his strapped assault rifle, even after shooting 3 or so people right there in the presence of the cops. His privilege earned him atleast a right to defend himself in court. If he was black or brown, the cops would very quickly apply your Jay Z rule of squeezing first and ask questions later would apply.

Banning gun won't keep guns off the street.
