If you write them they’ll tell you she’s an immediate family and doesn’t need the authorization letter, so just print the portion on their website that exempts her as an immediate family, a copy of your PR card and birth certificate, that’s all Ethiopian airline asked for

Lexy123:
Hi Newmum,

I'd say Ethiopian because most times it cheaper than the rest. However, comfort might not be that great.

My mum is also coming to Toronto soon and I wanted to ask if you did written authorization for your mum. I know CIC says immediate family do not need it but I would just like to re-confirm from someone who is also going through the process.

Also, what other documents would she be going with.

Thanks in advance.

@Lexy123 this and a copy of your PR card and birth cert. That's what others have said. She nailed it.

So far, Lufthansa is cheaper on my mum's intended flight date. My hesitation stems from what happened with my dad's BA ticket last year. The ticket is still on hold because BA is refusing to fly passengers other than citizens and PRs. It was cheaper than ET by almost 100k when I booked it last year but since the start of the pandemic, it has been on hold. Awoof is running my belle right now. I am waiting to rebook when they lift restrictions. At this point, I am tilting towards ET cos come rain, come shine, they will most likely fly

Nawa.

We are looking at July for mumsy; looking for tickets and trying to avoid transit in countries that requires transit visa. Plus, less layovers especially with the covid test period validity.

Lufthansa does not require a transit visa if you are not leaving the airport or flying through any other location other than Frankfurt from Nigeria. The layover I saw for Frankfurt is 3hrs, 10 mins. The longest was 7hrs. ET is usually 2hrs 45mins or so. I am planning for July as well.

I’ll advise to try and avoid Lufthansa, they almost sent back a mother who is an immediate family, they asked her for authorization letter, it was horrible, Ethiopian seems to be the only airline that understands the difference between immediate and extended family.

My sentiments exactly. I want to play it safe with Ethiopian Airlines. My question is, if IRCC is saying they won't give authorization for immediate family, where should family members now get the letter to travel with? Why can't airlines understand this? All this confusion is annoying.

Please, has anyone here quarantined in group of two or three since the advent of the 3 days hotel quarantine? The Canadian website says 'Only household should quarantine together' I believe household does not entirely mean family. I and two other nairalanders have booked hotel for our three days hotel stay together in order to save cost. But, to be on the safer side, I'd like to ask for your opinion. Hope we won't run into any problem?

As long as you came on the same flight you can quarantine together, even if you are not family members - at least if you are landing via Toronto

Good Day all,

Please quick question, has anyone sent email to Travel Exempt since March 29th and got a respond on their visitors visa application? I know there is a new web form now but did anyone send the email and got a response?

We also have a peculiar situation. My husbands application was approved in Feb 2021 or so we thought but since his bio-metric expired we were asked to do another one, main while we have submitted his passport since that Feb when it was approved. Instead of them returning the passport, they requested for more documents which we have also submitted.

At the Moment, his profile is no longer showing approved and we are yet to get his passport back. we send email to travel exempt since march 29th still no response.

Good day all,

Please I would like to ask that when applying for visiting visa, if my employer is sponsoring all costs on the trip do I need to still provide my personal bank statement?
Also I'm going to be visiting my wife and kids, do we all need to provide an SOP or just me?

God will grant us the grace all the grace to celebrate this week in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen

I would like to share my experience travelling to Canada with all the new restrictions.

It might help someone cause I learnt one or two things from this forum.

Please note I had my visiting visa since 2019 but never used it.

Firstly I have a family member so I'm be eligible to travel at this time, a family member is either immediate or extended. immediate is a parent, spouse etc. Extended is a sibling, grand child etc ( please refer to the website for further clarifications)

For immediate family members you don't need a statutory form or an authorisation letter but you do for an extended family.

I came in as an extended family member and this was my process

Step 1: Get your family member and yourself to both fill the Application for authorization and statutory declaration

this form is for family member in Canada older than 18 years old there is a different one for a minor. ( check website)

Step 2: Family member goes to a notary/Lawyer to get form signed and pay a fee

Step 3: Email form and other details to IRCC

Step 4: Buy your ticket and prepare to travel

Step 5: Call the Government approved numbers to book a hotel for quarantine

call can only be 48 hrs to departure flight. For this step I paid $1154 which includes hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner for the 3 days and two covid tests one at the airport on arrival and one on day 10 of quarantine). Print your hotel confirmation.

Step. 6: Download the arrive can app and fill in your details, flight, hotel, where you would quaint for the remaining 11 days if your first covid test comes out negative. Print your arrivecan receipt.

Step 7: Do the first covid test in Nigeria before your flight

Step 8: book for the second covid test to be done at the airport in Canada to avoid queues( my advise). you can book on the switch health.ca ( print your appointment)

Step 8: arrive on the day of your flight early because all the things above would be scanned by your airline and sent for approval( not sure who they sent it to. I flew Lufthansa), you have to wait for the approval before you are allowed to board your flight.

Step 9: Get on your flight and arrive Canada( I flew to Toronto, only four international airports are opened at this time)

Step 10: I did immigration twice because they really wanted to confirm I had family and they asked for all the above things mentioned too.

Step 10: grab your bags

Step 11: Do your second covid test at the exit of the airport

Step. 12: Use an airport taxi/shuttle to get to your hotel. All the hotels are around the airport.

Step 13: Start quarantine and wait for your covid test. I came in on a Saturday so didn't get my result till Monday, if you get a negative result earlier you are allowed to check out and go and continue your 14 days quarantine at your preferred location.
I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, they delivered breakfast, lunch and dinner but they were all oyinbo food so I struggled with that.

Step 14: Checked out on my last day and proceeded to my place of quarantine using an uber.

Step. 15: You have to report on the arrive can for the 14 days so they know if you developed any symptoms or not( quite straight forward)

Step 16: Do your third covid test on day 10, they provide a covid kit at the airport and its picked up at your location. all the instructions are in the kit.

I finished my. quarantine few days ago.

I hope someone finds this overwhelming process helpful.

Hello please I have a question on step 3.

Did you a response to the mail.
What was the time line.

As I sent an email to IRCC on 24 March for written authorisation and visa prioritization.

I didnt get a response via mail however my visa was approved and I have even gotten my passport back.

My concern is do I resend a mail for the authorisation?
I am exempted to travel as an extended family.

Thank you.

Good afternoon All

Please, I have a few questions, would appreciate if someone is kind enough to respond

1. Is birth tourism still possible in Canada - Quebec to be precise, given the covid-19 situation?

2. Any idea of the potential cost of giving birth in Quebec?

3. Will a friend's letter of invitation suffice as I don't have immediate or extended family there?

Thanks!

I think extended family doesn't apply to cousins. sorry about that. it only applies to people on a relationship for more than a year. you can also read it up on CIC website on Exemptions on visitors visa.

No. Cousins are not extended family member according to CIC.

Since you have applied, you should wait it out.

Even those that are being prioritized are still going through hassles to even travel.

The pandemic is not looking great in Canada, some provinces are still in lockdown and they are urging the federal government to restrict people from flying in.

So, chill small, make all this thing die down. As you don apply and never hear any news from them na good news (hopefully).
