WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS KUSHIDA’s championship celebration and open challenge After his stunning victory over Santos Escobar last week, newly minted Cruiserweight champion KUSHIDA had plenty to celebrate, and WWE was more than happy to oblige. Before the show had even aired on USA Network we were promised a party to celebrate his first week on top. If pro wrestling has taught us anything though it’s that these events are always an excuse for a new challenger to rudely interrupt and shoot their shot — which is exactly what KUSHIDA invited people to do. Former tag team champion Oney Lorcan was the one to answer the challenge! In case you forgot Lorcan was a solid cruiserweight outside of his former tag team glory, this match was a fine reminder of his skill in the ring. Add Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr. to this match and you would have had more holds than a GameStop PS5 reservation line. Even without them it was a technical showcase of back and forth grappling and painful moves. KUSHIDA may have looked like the loser of the match if you were to judge by the bright red blisters on his chest from nearly a half dozen chops by Lorcan, but moments afterward he successfully applied the Hoverboard Lock to force Lorcan into submission. His victory was short lived as Santos Escobar hit the ramp and Legado del Fantasma jumped him and worked him over in front of the announcers. Before the beatdown could go from 2-on-1 to 3-on-1, MSK came out to even the odds. It looks like we’ve got a match for next week! In the meantime KUSHIDA is still your Cruiserweight Title champion. In addition to that match William Regal also signed Dakota Kai vs. Mercedes Martinez and Bronson Reed vs. Austin Theory. The more NXT uses one show to book the next, the happier I am overall. Logical progression is highly underrated. Kyle O’Reilly makes his big return After surviving a brutal unsanctioned match against Adam Cole at night two of Takeover: Stand & Deliver, Kyle O’Reilly was ready to return to the Capitol Wrestling Center and declare victory. Would Adam Cole be waiting to sabotage him one last time, or could O’Reilly finally move on from the dissolution of The Undisputed Era? O’Reilly was in a festive mood to open the show, strutting down to the ring while Wade Barrett moaned about him acting like the cock of the walk. O’Reilly thought it was too dark in the Capitol Wrestling Center until he took off his shades, at which point “Cool Kyle” said he could either go after the “workhorse” North American title or the biggest man in NXT, but he had ALL THE TIME in the world to decide. Before he could go on to say that meant he really wanted Karrion Kross, Cameron Grimes got involved. Grimes wanted to form a “business partnership” with O’Reilly, and he played along like he was interested in it, but he then informed Grimes he was medically cleared for a match and all he needed was an opponent. Once he put his shades back on he FOUND his opponent, and subsequently decked Grimes with a right hand. A humorous way to open the show that set up the main event for later in the evening! O’Reilly spent the period before commercial break working over Grimes’ left arm looking for a submission. Grimes got the heat going into the break by giving O’Reilly a German suplex right onto his “injured neck.” That allowed him to have the heat by stretching out the neck after the break, but neither man wound up using the injured body part to pick up the win. In fact let’s be honest — for the last three or four minutes of the match they were pretty much no selling each other’s offense and popping right back up. I’m not so much of a grizzled OLD veteran that I hated this, but any sense of realism went right out the window. Suspend your disbelief though and it’s just fine, since O’Reilly finished the match with a brainbuster and a flying knee off the top to the back of the head. THAT is a convincing way to end it. Dexter Lumis vs. LA Knight They’ve been on the edge of each other’s radar, nudging toward an eventual collision after LA Knight eliminated Dexter Lumis in a battle royal, and now the moment of impact (pun intended) had finally arrived. Dummy, yeah! LA Knight and Dexter Lumis mixed it up in a one on one battle live on NXT. The match started with a lockup and was largely 50/50 from that point until the commercial break, with each man only getting the advantage for a few seconds. Knight finally got control by ducking a charge to the corner and hitting a neckbreaker before tossing Lumis out, and he continued to work Lumis over via “picture in picture” until we came back. At this point things started to go awry. A series of right hands put Knight down, but when the action spilled outside, Knight tripped Lumis into the plexiglass barricade face first. As he was stumbling around he looked up and saw... you guessed it... Indi Hartwell. Knight took advantage of her distraction not once but TWICE, the second time yanking Lumis back into the ring the hard way to score the pinfall. Hartwell tried to make amends by coming down to the ring for a smooch, but The Way interrupted and dragged her out. Breezango vs. Grizzled Young Veterans Perhaps Breezango was paying tribute to the late Prince Philip with their attire this week? Needless to say Zack Gibson of GYV was not amused by their “daft cosplay,” although Breezango was in control before the bell AND as NXT took time for some commercials. I swear Frank Thomas looks more swollen now than when he was “Big Hurt” in the majors. Anyway as the late Eddie Guerrero used to say “If you’re not cheating you’re not trying.” James Drake faked a leg injury so that Zack Gibson could poke Fandango in the eyes, and despite Breeze making the big comeback with a hot tag, Drake was able to make a blind tag before the Ticket to Mayhem put his shoulders on the mat for three. Wade Barrett promptly declared GYV to be the rightful challengers to MSK, and I’m perfectly fine with that. Imperium vs. Ever-Rise Glorified squash. I would have been annoyed by anything else. Even Killian Dain coming out from the back to get in Alexander Wolfe’s face couldn’t slow down Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel for long. Drake Maverick tried to join in so Dain had to drag him away. After the silliness concluded, an assisted uppercut (Aichner hoists Scott Parker up, Marcel Barthel knocks him down) ended the match decisively. The mat is sacred once again. All of this and the “Warrior of the Sun” too It was finally time for Sarray (formerly Sareee) to make her Capitol Wrestling Center debut! Who would her opponent be? None other than “Iron Woman” Zoey Stark. If you’re a fan of Stark you were probably dismayed that was already in the ring waiting for Sarray after a commercial break, which is almost never a good sign. It turns out it wasn’t a squash though. In fact it was actually MUCH more competitive than I would have had for Sarray’s debut, but that’s personal preference. It didn’t stop me from enjoying the near falls and the back and forth action, which finally ended with Sarray hitting a suplex and hooking the leg to keep Stark down for good. As Sarray was celebrating her victory in the ring, Toni Storm ran out to stomp a mud hole into Stark, forcing Sarray to make the save. Grade: B+ This is one of those cases where NXT greatly exceeded my own expectations. Going in less than half of the matches were announced or booked, but going out we’ve set up no less than three contests for next week. I still wish Sarray had been a little more dominant for her first exposure to the NXT audience, but if we assume she’s facing Toni Storm next week, that would be a FOURTH match booked just because of this show. Can someone teach the writers at Raw that this is the stuff that matters? Give us feuds and matches we can invest in, not silly nonsense that gets rewritten hours before the show airs anyway. |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Swerve WWE did an interesting thing where Cesaro was given a singles victory over Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 37 and that was used as a catalyst to kick off a main event run. They didn’t really build up to this at all, with it seemingly coming out of nowhere, but it’s still driven by years and years of fans having lobbied for him to be pushed beyond the mid-card he’s been stuck in for what feels like forever. Of late, we’ve heard stories that Daniel Bryan, another guy who struggled to get to the main event title picture, before a big breakthrough in 2014, has been doing his own lobbying for Cesaro behind-the-scenes. Here, Bryan took that lobbying to television, doing his best Paul Heyman going full advocate for the Swiss Superman. Bryan put over how Cesaro deserves the shot, how Reigns is afraid of losing to Cesaro, and how he knows he can’t win against him. He did this after they worked a tag team match against Seth Rollins and Jey Uso, one they were victorious in, and Cesaro treated Uso like a rag doll to be tossed around and upside down. It built to a main event segment that saw Cesaro demand an answer from Reigns and immediately get put in his place. He was shouted down, dismissed, and instantly put on the back burner in favor of Reigns challenging Bryan to a match for the title next week, with Bryan’s SmackDown residency on the line. It’s equal parts compelling and hilarious, compelling because there’s certainly intrigue in how they’ll handle Bryan from here and hilarious because it’s indicative of the broader treatment of Cesaro. Reigns dismissed him to such a degree I found it hard to take him as seriously as Bryan was demanding we should. Then Cesaro was encouraging Bryan to accept the challenge! Sure, this could simply be delaying Cesaro’s main event run but WWE would do better to make up its mind on giving him the push and committing to it. Don’t have Bryan tell me how great and worthy he is and then in the tag match they’re in together, have Bryan be the guy scoring the pin. Don’t have him push for Cesaro to get the title shot the entire night just to then take it himself. It doesn’t matter if you tell me he’s worthy, if I see every action betray those words, I’m going to believe he’s the second-rate wrestler you continue to present him as. But, hey, there’s probably another good PPV match against Rollins coming. So at least there’s that. All the rest Intercontinental title scene: I liked that WWE gave Kevin Owens an impromptu title shot on this show over Big E. Sure, he didn’t win and his issues with Sami Zayn were continued while Apollo Crews was attacked by Big E to keep their feud going, but there was a brief interaction between Owens and Big E backstage that created some electricity and it deepened the pool of contenders for the title. That’s four super talented wrestlers all in the same vicinity with a lot of good matches to be had among them. Reginald returns: It took exactly zero shows for Reginald to be a distraction that caused issue for the women’s tag team champions and cost them yet another singles victory. This time it was Nia Jax losing to Tamina Snuka. There’s no shot this isn’t leading to a breakup and it’s long overdue. Natalya and Tamina will do just fine as transitional champions. Top contender Bayley: Sasha Banks wasn’t on this show, and it’s strange just how little follow up there’s been to that historic match with Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 37. In fact, Bayley is stepping right in and getting the next crack at the SmackDown women’s championship. They didn’t even give them a segment in the ring on this show, instead enlisting Montez Ford to snitch on Bayley talking trash and Belair showing up confront her over it. Babyface Bayley briefly returned to say a bunch of nice things but SWERVE, she didn’t actually mean it hahahahahaha. I say “hahahahahaha” because that’s what Bayley did to end the segment. This isn’t good so far. The new Aleister Black: He told a story about slaying a dragon and how we’re all a bunch of liars who suck and should be scorched from the Earth. I don’t really get what the idea is here, but I don’t think I’m supposed to just yet. I’ll wait for Chapter 2, and 3, and maybe even 4 before making any judgments here. The Mysterios: Rey and Dominik are actually a pretty fun tag team! I wouldn’t mind watching the two of them continue to have these fun matches en route to a run with the titles. It’s an easy, feel good story that WWE really can’t mess up. This show was largely about establishing a guy who ended up not getting the thing he was supposed to be getting established for. A weird one. Grade: C+ |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS So! Raw. Raw. Alright, so I’ve said over and over for months this show is lazy and uninspired. That Vince McMahon is the end all be all and it doesn’t matter who does and doesn’t like his shows, because they’re really for him. That it won’t change until he’s gone. None of that has changed. We just have to try and get past it somehow. What I do? I see some good stuff and support people I care about. This is my outlet to tell you what I liked and didn’t like, and the comments section is for you to do the same. It feels... apathetic? Yeah. USA Network, please drop the third hour of Raw. We had to get there somehow If you’ve watched one, you’ve watched them all. Last week, Drew Mac asked for a 2 on 1 handicap match against T-BAR and MACE. The moment the former RETRIBUTION members had the advantage , Strowman ran down to make the save, and that led to a tag team match. That match ended in a ref stoppage with the heels as the winners. This week, angered by not getting thanked for helping out, Strowman told McIntyre he was going out to the ring to have a 2 on 1 handicap match against T-BAR and MACE. The moment the former RETRIBUTION members had the advantage, McIntyre ran down to make the save, and that led to a tag team match. This match ended in a count out with the heels as the winners. Only this time, Drew Mac clotheslined Strowman by accident, and T-BAR was able to get back into the ring before said count out. And then Strowman attacked Drew. Why can’t we all just get along?!? McIntyre walked up to Adam Pearce and said he wanted a match with Strowman, and Pearce said he’d make it happen. Later, Strowman said he should sweeten the deal and if he should win, he should be added to the WrestleMania Backlash match between McIntyre and Lashley. And Pearce made that official, too. In the main event, McIntyre went for the Claymore, and Strowman picked him up and power slammed him. MVP was at ring side telling McIntyre to put Strowman away to save the match for both him and Lashley at WrestleMania Backlash. Strowman did a top rope superplex and then Lashley and MVP saved McIntyre from the running powerslam. McIntyre went for the Claymore and MACE and T-BAR distracted McIntyre and Strowman got his power slam for the win. We got a replay of that, and then that was it. Neither Lashley, MVP, Drew, or Braun acknowledged what happened, and the show went off the air with Braun and Drew pointing at Lashley. Uh.... why did they do that? Why would they bother? It would have made much more sense if they attacked both men and disrupted the match. Are they going to align with Strowman? Actually wouldn’t be a bad idea for all three men. Let’s... let it play out? She’s back Last week, Charlotte Flair was suspended for attacking referee Eddie Orengo by Adam Pearce on Raw Talk. However, other official Sonya Deville decided to reverse that, and brought Flair back to the ring. Flair apologized to management and Eddie, and Eddie accepted the apology saying he was at fault. Flair made him apologize to her and also hold the ropes open for them, and that was great. In the back, Pearce was waiting for the two women and it’s clear now that there’s a riff between the two officials. I’m very intrigued to see where this goes. Later, Deville walked up to Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke and said that Mandy was going to be Flair’s opponent. Continuity! That’s so welcome these days. Rose had some good offense here, and took advantage of Flair’s new rivalry with Orengo to sneak a win, but Flair kicked out and gave her the Natural Selection. I’m intrigued to see where the Charlotte and Sonya relationship goes, since Sonya took it upon herself to get Charlotte back. If she gets control of the show, maybe Charlotte becomes her handpicked champion? We know how that goes, and with this new iteration of Charlotte, I’m all for it. R-K-Bro There was a lot of good, and one bad part in particular about this. Riddle was being interviewed backstage and said that he was “riding high” after his win last week, and Orton rolled up asking what planet Riddle was from? Of course, Riddle answered “I’m from Earth” and Orton immediately said “Shut up” hahahaha. Orton said if Riddle wants, he’ll give R-K-Bro a try out later, and Riddle was gleeful. This was a phenomenal interaction. Riddle started their match with Cedric Alexander, and Riddle was trying to get feedback from Orton and Orton was trying to get him to focus. As Ced was taunting Orton, he was trying to hype up his partner to make a tag. Both heels worked Riddle’s leg and Riddle finally got an opening to tag Orton. Awesome RKO by Orton to Alexander in mid air, and as he was setting up Benjamin for the DDT, Riddle wanted to tag in. Orton actually entertained it, and Riddle hit the Floating Bro to win. Orton didn’t attack him afterward, either. I actually want R-K-Bro. The one bad part about all of this - why did Cedric and Shelton have to be the tag team to take the fall? They’ve been on a real losing streak since splitting with The Hurt Business, and that really sucks. They don’t deserve this. The Rest Get off the stage (Priest and New Day defeated Miz, Morrison, Elias, and Ryker) Miz TV, the wonderful show that it is, saw the worst singers in the company start to do Hey Hey Hop Hop unplugged, and thank the heavens for Damian Priest and New Day. They brought tomatoes. They threw those tomatoes because I guess catering was going to throw them out? At one point in the match, Saxton told Graves that he wished he could wash his mouth out with soap. That’s the state of commentary these days. Priest went for his finisher but had to clothesline Elias instead. Miz made the save and he ate a Broken Arrow for his troubles. Kingston took out Elias so Woods could get the win for the group. Carrillo’s revenge Sheamus came out recapping last week and said he attacked Humberto Carrillo before the bell because Carrillo doesn’t deserve to be in the ring with him. Carrillo responded by getting beaten down, but blindsiding Sheamus and shooting himself out of the ring as if it were a cannon and he were a cannonball right at Sheamus, knocking him over the announce table. I’m all in on this. This shit’s dumb (Ripley, Jax, and Baszler defeated Asuka, Lana, and Naomi) The entire Raw women’s division, with the exception of Charlotte and Alexa, have been tied up in this silly storyline for months with a bunch of distractions and now... slipping. There are women involved here that deserve better. We can’t blame Alexa Bliss for what happens next Okay. Sure. |

WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Adam Cole is back (bay bay) The former “Undisputed” ruler of NXT Adam Cole finally recovered from the injuries he suffered battling Kyle O’Reilly at Takeover: Stand & Deliver. Never at a loss for words, the loquacious Lothario had a litany of complaints upon his return to the venue. He certainly wasn’t at a loss for words speaking to Arash Markazi, including berating him for making him wait outside in the hot baking sun to do the interview. Cole implied that despite his win at Stand & Deliver, O’Reilly was far from ready to be a main event player in NXT. He then declared that where he went next or what he did next was NOBODY’S DAMN BUSINESS, because wherever he went, he’d be the best damn Adam Cole that anybody has ever seen. Kyle O’Reilly watched on from the Capitol Wrestling Center in disgust. KUSHIDA and MSK vs. Legado Del Fantasma Following a successful title defense against Oney Lorcan last week, KUSHIDA was immediately jumped by Legado del Fantasma and their leader Santos Escobar sauntered down to the ring. Their plans of a three-on-one beatdown were thwarted by the arrival of tag team champions MSK, leaving the faces standing tall and setting up a three-on-three match for tonight’s show! Both sides made repeated quick tags to try to maximize a three-on-one advantage, with KUSHIDA clearing the ring (and the ring apron) before the break to put the faces in control. Legado del Fantasma regained the advantage during the picture in picture, and slowly but surely things unraveled for the babyfaces. KUSHIDA got driven through the announce table by Escobar. Carter got posted into the steel steps. Lee had to survive three on one for a LONG time until Carter finally got back to the tag rope. He tried to clean house on the hot tag but was quickly put down again, and when KUSHIDA stumbled into the ring selling his injuries he was hit with a Phantom Driver by Escobar. No one was left to save Carter in the end and Legado del Fantasma left smiling and smirking at the destruction they caused. In “Theory” Bronson Reed could earn another title shot(see what I did there?  )The Way’s resident lunkhead Austin Theory told General Manager William Regal that Bronson Reed didn’t deserve another short at North American champion Johnny Gargano without going through him first in singles competition. Over “Papa” John’s objections the match was signed and Reed would get a second chance to give Theory a Tsunami splash. Reed entered before the break and was waiting for Theory (and The Way) when they all came out afterward. He was playful and respectful at first until Theory slapped him after a go behind switch, and then the match began in earnest. Theory kept bouncing off of Reed like a pinball until he was finally able to stun Reed with a dropkick, and pull down the ropes to send him tumbling to the floor. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae hit the stereo superkicks and Theory dives to the outside to wipe Reed out, then posted him ribs first into the steel ring steps for good measure, taking full control as NXT went to commercial. The second half of the match saw a surprise appearance by Dexter Lumis, who startled Gargano and LeRae, while Hartwell slowly backed away thinking she had been betrayed. She rolled into the ring and yelled “SHUT UP! YOU TALK TOO MUCH” as Lumis stared at her unblinking, not saying a word. Theory came flying her direction and Lumis shoved her out of the way, taking the collision in her place. Reed capitalized by going to the top rope to hit the Tsunami splash on Theory and pick up the North American title shot with the win! Here’s a little example of Reed showing off his power before that climactic finish. Dakota Kai vs. Mercedes Martinez After a tense exchange between Raquel González and Mercedes Martinez on last week’s program, with Martinez accusing González of being little more than Kai’s puppet, William Regal (as always) came up with a solution to the brewing problem — have Martinez face Kai in singles competition. A win could put Martinez one step closer to getting her title shot. This match actually opened the live broadcast. Despite generally being known as a bad ass, Martinez was forced to play the face-in-peril this time, selling for the smaller Kai as the “Captain of Team Kick” booted her in the face repeatedly. The most impressive move before the commercial break though was Martinez lifting Kai off the top rope and carrying her to the center of the ring for a Cliffhanger. Her spinebuster looked pretty damn good too. Kai was in charge during and after the break, but Martinez quickly recovered and started attacking with forearms, chops and clotheslines. She picked Kai up for three straight double underhook suplexes and seemed ready to send her opponent to oblivion. Instead she snapped the arm and Kai rolled out of the ring in pain, where González was waiting for a confrontation. She missed — Martinez didn’t. An infuriated González got in the ring to boot Martinez right as she was about to FU Kai, so Martinez picked up the win by DQ but got a huge beating for her trouble. Aliyah & Jessi Kamea vs. Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon In a non-title match, the proteges of the Robert Stone Brand — Aliyah & Jessi Kamea — looked to earn a future title shot against champions Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon. The match never even happened. Moon and Blackheart were jumped by Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae before the bell rang. Robert Stone tried to present the tag team belts to his ladies like they had done something or won something, but that just wasn’t the case. William Regal announced that Blackheart & Moon would face Hartwell & LeRae in a STREET FIGHT on next week’s show. Killian Dain & Drake Maverick vs. Imperium Somebody forgot to tell Drake Maverick that he had a match Tuesday night. Maverick feared the worst, thinking Dain would immediately turn on him to rejoin Imperium for a three-on-one beating, or that Maverick would reach out for a hot tag and Dain would jump off the ropes and leave him hanging. Neither of those things happened in the first half of the match, which saw Dain dominating the action until he tagged (then threw) Maverick into the ring. Imperium did as they are prone to do (cheat) and beat Maverick up two-on-one to send us to a commercial break. That beating continued after it too, and when Maverick finally went for the hot tag, Barthel yanked Dain off the apron so he wasn’t there to receive it. An enraged Dain hit the ring to clean house on everybody in sight. As the action spilled outside Barthel knocked Dain down and ordered Alexander Wolfe to hit him with a chair... but Wolfe refused to pull the trigger! This didn’t change the eventual outcome (Maverick was hit with a Euro Bomb and pinned) but it was the first sign of dissension we’ve seen from Imperium, and even in their victory pose after the match, Wolfe stepped in front of Barthel and Aichner — and they immediately looked at him and took two steps forward to stand in front of him. Well well well! What else do you need to know? Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart got flowers backstage... from Dexter Lumis? Dexter Grimes went shopping for the “most bling” gold watch he could find. Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher sang a song for the Grizzled Young Veterans. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott announced a Falls Count Anywhere match with Leon Ruff for next Tuesday’s show! In an unannounced match, Zayda Ramier hit Toni Storm with a shooting star press to pick up a win, thanks to a distraction from Zoey Stark. All kingdoms will fall to Tian Sha. Pete Dunne declared himself to be the baddest man in NXT, “prove me wrong.” Ted DiBiase proved to be the payoff to Grimes buying a watch, showing off what a REAL million dollar watch looks like as he was telling the cashier to ring up his purchase! Grade: B- This show was very heavy on interviews, video packages, vignettes and angles. It was almost as much filler in a two hour show as you’d find on a Monday night with an extra hour to spare. The bell to bell action was good, save for the non-match that was Aliyah & Jessi Kamea’s non-title opportunity. It’s undoubtedly sour grapes on my part to complain about a match they weren’t going to win even if it took place, but why promote it on social media and YouTube and then not deliver it? Even if it SUCKED that doesn’t matter — I tuned in expecting to see it and got shortchanged. It’s telling that in the end the most memorable things about this show were promos from Adam Cole, Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne. I came within a hair’s breadth of going anywhere from C+ to C-, but in the end the frantic action of the six man tag and the Bronson Reed vs. Austin Theory match saved the show. Like a lot of other people I’d like to know whose gym bag Toni Storm did her business in to not only not be announced for a match but to lose yet again to a “rookie” of the roster. |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS I’m about to pull a WWE here. Let’s talk about repetition. Again. Repetitive talking about WWE’s repetition. And this isn’t mainly a SmackDown thing, but I have to say that it’s definitely noticeable that the blue brand is feeling a bit more like the red brand as of late. Same type of booking. In this case, heels mixing it up who have no history with each other just to put together a 6 person tag. We literally saw this twice on Raw this week. Disqualifications. Whatever the eff they’re doing with Shayna Baszler. While the main event was great, the only different thing on this show is whatever is going on with Aleister Black. That’s it! Everything else is a feud that’s been going on since before WrestleMania. Sheesh. Goodbye for now This episode of SmackDown was purely to hype the main event, and put Daniel Bryan over. All of this coincides with the very real life talks of Bryan winding down his wrestling career. Now, this doesn’t mean Bryan is done. WWE has two more brands! They were very careful with the wording of this - banished from SmackDown. Not WWE. Bryan was interviewed early in the show and said that he was feeling very comfortable and relaxed heading into the match. You could feel that he was at peace with the very thought that he could be off of the show. Later, Paul Heyman was interviewed and said he’s tired of hearing about Daniel Bryan, while putting over his every accolade of course. It was a great promo! And what’s great about Heyman is that these promos feel extra special, since he doesn’t do most of the talking this time around. And then the match. It was long, it was brutal, and both men sold their asses off. Naturally it started with the urgency Bryan always has when facing Reigns. The balance between the two is great, too. Bryan finally got that Yes Lock locked in, and Reigns flipped. He pounded on him, and the brilliance of this was that the whole match, Bryan worked Reigns’ right arm. So Reigns smartly transitioned to his left arm for the Guillotine. Bryan faded away, as does his time on SmackDown. But Reigns didn’t want it to end there! he grabbed two chairs, and Cesaro ran out to help. It was then (and only then) Jey Uso came out and superkicked him in the face. Uso tied Cesaro up in the ropes and watched as Reigns did the dreaded conchairto to write Bryan off into the sunset. It was a perfect ending. Personally, I’d love to see Bryan make an appearance on NXT. I’d watch for him! As for Cesaro, looks like he may end up being Roman’s challenger at WrestleMania Backlash. Of course, he’s still involved with Seth Rollins because... no feud actually ends anymore. WrestleMania is just another standard pay-per-view. Now let’s address the BIG change from this episode - Roman’s new music. Disclaimer - Wrestling and Music are subjective. What you like may not be what I like. With that out of the way, I don’t like it. At all. I’m definitely in the minority from what I’ve seen around the Cageside offices and on the social media machine. I’m willing to give it a chance though, y’all. Please don’t hate me. What the heck is going on here? So... Aleister Black. Aleister is a narrator of animation and the “dark father” of whose book he is reading from. I am not typically into this mystical stuff, so my first impression of this is that I’m not going to like where this goes. Look for Alexa Bliss and Lilly in the references section of this book for continuity of my feelings on mystical stuff. There’s quite a bit of that book dedicated to them. I have always been fond of Aleister Black. I don’t know how this transitions to ring work. More than likely he’ll have new music. As long as there isn’t a doll involved. The Rest Familiarity (Big E vs. Apollo Crews ends in a disqualification) Oh look - a title match gets a disqualification thanks to the heel’s manager/sommelier/friend/Commander. I was just waiting for it to happen. The match was good. I encourage you to watch. But it’s definitely not something that you need to go out of your way to watch. Apollo and Big E have been feuding for months. It’s starting to remind me of Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio from last year. The matches are good, but when you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Give me an Eye for an Eye match. Or a Nigerian Eye for an Eye match or something. You know, a match that has Nigerian background and importance that’s actually just a street fight. Bianca Belair and The Street Profits defeated Bayley and The Dirty Dawgz Oh look - a 6 person tag involving people who are feuding with each other. Feels a bit familiar too, doesn’t it? Basically, what they want us to know is Bianca Belair is the EST, in case we forgot since she debuted on the main roster with a video package telling us she’s the EST, and then 5 or 6 months later, another video package telling us she’s the EST. And then WrestleMania was WrESTleMania. I love her so I’m not too bothered, but it’s very repetitive. Everyone cut each other off and then they had their match. Highlights were certainly Roode’s awesome selling of Belair’s whiplash, and Ford’s insane frog splash. Dude didn’t even stop at the top rope and set it up. Incredible. Tamina and Natalya defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler Oh look - this again. When you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all! Grade: C+ |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS So, something weird happened. I liked Raw. Yeah! I know! And something else happened too. This week made me realize that I actually don’t care about the WWE title picture anymore. In fact, I ended up liking more of the stuff I normally wouldn’t have. I already didn’t particularly care for Braun Strowman, but legitimately the first time Drew McIntyre popped up on screen after the opening segment, I groaned. And it’s because WWE have taken what I enjoyed about both Bobby Lashley and McIntyre and tarnished that in the name of WrestleMania Backlash. Truthfully, since the break up of The Hurt Business, Lashley just hasn’t been the same. MVP had multiple promos on this show, and while I would normally be excited to hear him talk, I didn’t pay attention to any of them. Then they’ve had McIntyre in this... thing with Strowman for the past few weeks. It’s been boring. I’m starting to get tired of his “shtick” too. I don’t know. It’s not hitting well with me right now. And then, MACE and T-BAR seemingly reverted back to the days of RETRIBUTION being dumb, because while they’ve been thorns in the sides of McIntyre and Strowman, they were nowhere on this show. Why? They got Strowman in the rematch and then dipped? How does that make sense? The main event match between Strowman and Lashley was fine. Two big men doing big men things. But... I just don’t care. Of course Drew was there, of course one of his triple threat opponents would get in his face, of course it would lead to Drew Claymore kicking them. Next week, Drew will face Bobby. Okay. Will MACE and T-BAR show up then? Will Braun be involved? You know the answer to the second question. Aside from the WWE title picture, the rest of the show was pretty good. A few more misses, but I ended up enjoying a bulk of this show. Fair to Flair This was pretty quick, but served its purpose. Dana has a new theme, and honestly I couldn’t have realized if I wasn’t told beforehand. I don’t even remember her old theme. Charlotte really was brilliant here. “You’re still my protégé. You’re still my bitch.” Damn, Charlotte. Popped me. Sonya Deville came out after and said she’s now an equal WWE official to Adam Pearce and she heard Charlotte had a proposal. Flair went on to say that she was the woman who beat Asuka and Ripley and Ripley took her spot at WrestleMania. It would be a bigger deal if she were added to Asuka’s and Ripley’s rematch. She is the original influencer and the most famous face of the WWE women’s division. She asked Deville to make the courageous decision, and Deville did just that. Ripley came out and said that she’s put up with a lot of Charlotte’s crap and no one likes her. Asuka then came out and said that Charlotte’s a whiny cry baby. This was a wildly entertaining segment. Rhea sounded much more natural and Charlotte is spitting facts. Her inclusion in the title match brings intrigue to WrestleMania Backlash and hopefully, a better match involving Asuka and Rhea. Be fair to Flair, y’all. Winning streak Second week in and R-K-Bro is still hitting. This match came about because in their quest to get back at New Day, Elias and Ryker ended up throwing tomatoes at Randy Orton. It was a bad segment, but made better by Riddle riding by on his scooter. Later, Riddle went up to the Viking Raiders and asked if they were supporting the Vikings or the Raiders in the NFL draft. Orton was nearby, and he scooted over calling him Bro, to which Orton responded “I’m not your bro” and Riddle replied “We don’t have the same parents” and HAHAHAHA. How is this still so entertaining? Riddle was super hyped as Orton made his entrance, and Orton had that ugh look on his face as he did the turnbuckle pose. After they won doing the same stuff as last week, and Orton was more into it, Riddle did his pose in the middle of the ring and Orton didn’t do his because Riddle wanted it so bad. Seriously, how is this still so entertaining? America’s Moist Wanted I died. I laughed for nearly 3 straight minutes. I don’t even know what Miz said after because I couldn’t contain myself. Expert stuff by Johnny Drip Drip there, and got me in a good mood for a team that I’ve been desperately wanting to not see much of these days. Plus, they’re really leaning into the incoming break up. Damian Priest is a mood. He’s got this swagger about him and WWE needs to treat him better than they’ve been as of late. It never should have been solely about Bad Bunny. Very good way to end this match by Miz trying to distract the referee for Morrison, but Morrison reversed a roll up and it led to him losing. I sometimes forget how good Morrison is because they lean to heavily on Miz. Time for that break up! All Red Return So Eva Marie is back. You probably knew that even without watching this show because the great Geno Mrosko tossed up a Breaking News banner. You know that thing is only for the most special occasions. Back when Eva was on the roster years ago, I wasn’t really into her. I did enjoy her last gimmick on SmackDown Live where the movie trailer announcer would announcer that she wouldn’t be performing for various reasons. Sadly, she was gone soon after. I don’t know if she’ll be called All Red Everything since her hair is now pink. Let’s see where this goes. The Rest AJ Styles and Omos defeated The New Day Omos has that genuine big man look. I absolutely love the dynamic between him and Styles, and how New Day interacts with him. The little kicks to Omos’ legs by New Day made me laugh, and I loved how the “accidental” tag by Styles woke Kingston and Woods up. They took turns stomping down Styles in their corner but it didn’t work. Omos got back in and Kingston sold like death for him. Nothing New Day did could stop the Monster Among Men. Yes, the real Monster Among Men. Styles leapt off Omos’ shoulders and did the Phenomenal Forearm to win. This was very entertaining. The Streak is over (Sheamus vs. Mansoor ends in disqualification) Mansoor signed a Raw contract with Adam Pearce, and Sheamus walked up and challenged him after attacking Humberto Carrillo. Sheamus took over for most of the first half, and then Mansoor did some nasty elbows and Sheamus was busted open. Sheamus set up the Brogue Kick, and Carrillo attacked him causing the DQ. Corey Graves said Sheamus may have underestimated Mansoor and Carrillo, yet both men were laid out by Brogue Kicks. Huh? Mansoor had a 49 match win streak before his debut match on Raw. The streak is over. Let’s see how he feels about it. As long as he’s smiling, right? WWE Officials imploding This show was helping to further division with Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. Very recently, Sonya has been called a WWE official and has been making decisions without Pearce. I’m very interested in where this goes, because Sonya has been very entertaining as an “official” and an official official. I wonder if the brand GMs are coming back? Angel Garza defeated Drew Gulak This was an unexpected match that came from Gulak poking fun at Garza for not getting Nia Jax. Lucha House Party defeated Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin This match felt a bit off, almost like they hadn’t had much preparation for it. Some interactions felt mistimed and I’m just saddened by the positioning of Cedric and Shelton. Now, they’re splitting too. I just don’t expect WWE to do good things with them both as singles stars. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler defeated Naomi and Lana Sure. See you all next week. Lilly has a dirty little secret Eventually we’ll find out what it is. Ending these segments with the same giggle and snarl is very creative. But people will get mad at me for my opinions. Grade: B |

Different strokes for different folks I guess. But here's the thing, smackdown has more defined storylines and characters compared to Raw, the main event card, mid card and lower card all have entertaining storylines. Though some matches are often repeated, they still have a way of making them work. This Monday's Raw was good compared to last week's no doubt but dude I don't just care about Raw storylines cause I'm just not invested. You say Smackdown was worse off compared to Raw but you need to understand that the entire show was geared towards the Roman Reigns Daniel Bryan match, simple. Other things within it were entertaining fillers still referencing the upcoming main event, a little bit similar to what AEW would do later today, and they did pretty well except for the women's tag team matchup. For the first time in a very long while I got so emotionally invested in a Smackdown event, now that's proper storytelling. I used to be a huge fan of Raw back when we had fans in the arena, Becky was the women's champion, Drew was being groomed for his title push and Paul Heyman was the creative director who pushed younger talents like Humberto Carrillo, Ricochet and Aleistar Black to the spotlight. But after he left Raw has largely been a bit and miss. Why break up the Hurt Business, destroy the IIonics, make the Retribution a laughing stock and make Asuka's title reign one of the worst?! P.S. When Retribution was multi branded they caused a lot more believable havoc on smackdown than Raw. At the end, you'd always have Daniel Bryan and Paul Heyman to thank for their awesome contributions backstage that have morphed the B show of WWE to the only show of WWE. WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS It’s a STREET FIGHT The moment I heard that Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon were defending their tag team titles in a STREET FIGHT against Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell, I was eagerly anticipating tiger uppercuts, hadoukens and perhaps even some YOGA FIRE. LeRae seemed very concerned going into the match that Hartwell was spending too much time “thinking about boys” and not enough thinking about getting the gold belts. There were less than ten minutes left on the clock when the ring introductions began, so all four women cut off the announcer by brawling, which makes sense given it’s a street fight anyway so anything goes. You’d also expect a lot of plunder in a street fight and you wouldn’t be disappointed by the amount here — chairs, tables, and a fire extinguisher all came into play before we got a very late commercial break guaranteeing an overrun! I’m going to coin the word PLUNDERIFFIC to describe this contest. If this had been given a half hour or close to it instead of the 18 minutes or so it got from the start through the overrun, it might be remembered as a TLC match for the ages. It certainly had the lack of selling you’d expect from the Hardy Boys, Dudleys, et cetera in their prime — everyone went through tables and ladders and sold only briefly before getting back into the fight. Even Blackheart’s leap off the rigging through the announce table onto Hartwell didn’t keep either lady down for very long! In the end all of The Way’s conniving and trickery to get the women’s tag team champions into this match paid off. Hartwell took out Moon by diving from the ring onto a table outside, and LeRae stomped Blackheart’s head into a steel chair and pinned her for 3. We have new women’s tag team champions! Shoes off if you hate Gibson! On last week’s edition of NXT, Tommaso Ciampa sang a little tune for Zack Gibson to mock the Grizzled Young Veterans. James Drake and the aforementioned Gibson would have a chance for revenge in a tag team contest against Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher. With a win the Grizzled Young Veterans could prove they are SSSSSSSOON to be in contention again for MSK’s tag team titles. Did they get the upper hand or did the equally grizzled veterans humiliate GYV again? There was no shortage of dirty tactics in this contest, including distracting the ref with an illegal tag just so James Drake could try to rip Thatcher’s ear off his head. Ciampa got knocked over the announce table and Wade Barrett started complaining that he lost a shoe in the process. I think you can see where this is going! Thatcher got the shoe from Ciampa somehow and clocked Zack Gibson with him, then put on the armbreaker while he was dazed and confused. Gibson tapped out and the MORE grizzled veterans got the win! The ring can not contain their fury! Leon Ruff and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott keep upping the ante with their attacks on each other, so General Manager William Regal did the only sensible thing he could do in response. If they can’t keep their fight inside the confines of the squared circle, let them take it all over the Capitol Wrestling Center instead — falls, count, ANYWHERE. This match kicked off the live broadcast. Leon Ruff was the first to enter and tried to attack Scott when he hit the ring, being held back by the ref until the bell, at which point Scott promptly hit him with a knee as he charged in. Scott stayed in control until Ruff gave him an arm drag that sent him through the ropes, but Scott managed to get the upper hand there too. Ruff did have his moment when he was on the outside selling a superplex from the top, avoiding a charge from Scott that left him hanging, giving him a dropkick while upside down. Scott got the advantage again and threw a toolbox at his head before the break. During the commercial break the brawl spilled to the back, the locker room, and “anywhere” they wanted to go. Both men picked up the pace when we came back to live action, with Ruff making his big comeback when Scott went knee first into the ring steps, attacking him with the toolbox to further injure the knee. Scott tried to escape from a dueling leg lock, but ate a cutter in the ring AND on the floor. Ruff sent him over the barricade and went through the curtain to climb up to the top, but AJ Francis from Swerve’s entourage caught him jumping off and said “You must be out your DAMN mind!” He dumped Ruff back over the barricade and Scott took him back into the ring to hit the JML Driver and get the pin. Does “The Prince” want his throne back? It’s been more than a minute now since “The Prince” Finn Bálor lost his crown to Karrion Kross at Takeover: Stand & Deliver night two. As the longest reigning NXT champion in the brand’s history (504 days over two different spans) Bálor has nothing to prove, but that didn’t mean he planned to just roll over and let Kross or anyone else take his spot. Even though it was billed as Bálor’s big return going in, it was actually a segment designed for (and all about) Karrion Kross. He took center stage and once again dared the NXT locker room to have some cajones. Kyle O’Reilly came out and told him there was only one match he wanted, and he was pretty sure that Kross wanted it too. Pete Dunne declared this “a laugh” and dared both of them to prove they were badder than him. Bálor came out and declared he had beaten Dunne, beaten O’Reilly (twice) and wanted Kross when he was done with Austin Theory next week, leading immediately to a brawl! Kross almost single-handedly cleared the ring, but while he was staring Bálor down on the ramp he was jumped by Austin Theory and Johnny Gargano. They gave him stereo superkicks and Gargano put him down with a North American title shot to the head!!!. What else do you need to know? Cameron Grimes had an unannounced match with Asher Hale. Despite a few moments of offense here and there the end result was clear from the beginning — Cave In for the pin. Grimes vowed to celebrate in a VIP lounge, Ever-Rise tried to tag along, but he told them there was only room for three: “Me, myself, and Cameron Grimes.” Franky Monet has no respect for Kacy or Kayden Sarray had a match with Zayda Ramier So we gave Ramier a win over Toni Storm last week, just to feed her to the “Warrior of the Sun” this week? Don’t get me wrong, I like Sarray a lot, but this seems totally bass-ackward if you’re trying to tout Ramier as a “future prospect” off her “big upset win” last week, which they did during the broadcast repeatedly. LA Knight squashed Jake Atlas in a short match The most memorable part was Knight’s pre-match promo where he vowed to punt his opponent so hard that he’d NEED an atlas just to find his way back into the building. If you like talking this was the show for you I thought there was a lot of time killing last week, but I should have gotten out a coffee machine and set it to “auto refill” for this week. We had the promo segment from Kross and crew, a long promo segment by Legado del Fantasma to set up his flunkies challenging MSK and him challenging KUSHIDA (2 out of 3 falls next week), a backstage promo by Toni Storm on Zoey Stark, all of the segments with Gargano & Theory with Regal, a split screen interview for Mercedes Martinez & Raquel González, and multiple skits involving Cameron Grimes culminating in the night club he rented a room for being BOUGHT by Ted DiBiase. That’s vintage “Million Dollar Man” and all but for whatever reason I didn’t get nearly the chuckle out of Grimes being upstaged that I expected to. Oh and Franky Monet’s dog apparently pooped in Shotzi Blackheart’s tank too. Grade: C That’s going to seem harsh I know, but every match given any amount of substantial time was gimmicked to hell and back — yet the one gimmick match that SHOULD have been given more time as the main event didn’t get near enough. I think I’m about done with Swerve and Ruff at this point and they should be too. Sarray is in danger of being lost in the shuffle if they don’t give her some direction and promote her matches ahead of time. I don’t get the point of the Diamond Mine promos and frankly I don’t care. With three different matches involving foreign objects (legally or illegally) it was pure overkill, despite some good moments from bell to bell in each. Try to only have one plunderiffic match per show please, and for the love of all that’s good in wrestling cut down on the promo segments |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Throwback SmackDown! There wasn’t much to like about the physical “throwback” of this show. Okay they threw in the old logo, and they showed old clips and made it feel real nostalgic. The only problem - SmackDown didn’t exist back then. If this were Raw, it would have felt more right. It almost felt like WWE was rewriting the history of their own brand. But I don’t think it’s right to fully blame WWE for this. FOX has been doing a throwback week in honor of NASCAR Sunday, and it kind of felt like they weren’t given much time to really prepare. This is one of the few times you will see me give WWE a pass. They do not get a pass for the virtual fist, though. Shame on you. Jimmy ain’t nobody’s bitch The Roman Reigns saga since he returned has been legitimately the greatest storyline, for most of the wrestling world. Around the Royal Rumble, it started to get a little bit stagnant, only because Reigns was kind of getting one dimensional. Anything he was involved with was still the best thing in WWE, though. By WrestleMania, things were looking up. And now we’re here. Boy is it ramping up again. Paul Heyman started the show by giving Daniel Bryan’s career its own 10 bell salute. Dude literally just said Ding! 10 times. That’s good shit, pal. Reigns brought back the missing Uso brother. Jimmy came back in and Jey Uso was elated. Jimmy then looked at Reigns and gave him a hand shake. Immediately, I said “wait what about Hell in a Cell?” Silly me. Cesaro interrupted the men, and Seth Rollins attacked him from behind. Teddy Long then came out and said that if Cesaro won the match, he gets a title shot at WrestleMania Backlash and Rollins was not happy. So Jimmy and Jey were outside for the match, and both men were being their disrupting selves, until Rollins decided he didn’t want help. He shoved Jey, and Jimmy superkicked him. Cesaro did the Neutralizer and won. Uh oh. One of the best moments of the show, Rollins went up to Reigns for their first interaction on SmackDown and said that he needed to know who he should be pissed at. Reigns said even though Jimmy was at fault, Rollins was also at fault for losing. But he’ll take care of it. That was a great interaction. Reigns said he brought Jimmy back and then he screwed it up. He berated Jimmy and Jimmy said “First of all you ain’t talking to me like you do m brother. Second of all, I ain’t nobody’s bitch.” My god. Later, Jey went up to Jimmy and asked if he meant what he said, and Jimmy said that’s exactly what he meant. He called them the best tag team without Reigns and Jey is the reason why Reigns is the Universal champion. Jimmy came out and interrupted Reigns, and asked who’s side Jey was on? And Jimmy finally addressed Hell in a Cell. And Jey was behind Reigns looking at him the way he used to. It was so subtle but masterful. Reigns said if he doesn’t want to fall in line, he can go home. So Jimmy started to walk out, and Cesaro attacked Reigns. This was so important and incredible for the story. Jey went to save Reigns, but Jimmy was holding him back. Jey broke free, but it was only when Cesaro started attacking Jey that Jimmy got in the ring. Cesaro took out the Bloodline and stood tall to end the show. There are so many layers here and I love it so much. Cesaro looked like a monster tonight and the addition of Jimmy here was so good. Where does Jimmy stand next week? I can’t wait to find out! This made me feel like how I did back in September when Roman’s feud with Jey started. Is it next Friday already? Bayley bests Bianca Bayley came out to celebrate the history of WWE’s Women’s champions. Not mentioning Victoria was a big boo for me, though. All of it was to make sure we knew that no champion in the past matched up with Bayley, the longest single reign title holder in SmackDown women’s championship history. Bow down! Oh wait that’s someone else... Bayley said that Bianca Belair is insecure, and that brought the champion out. Belair told Bayley she should worry about herself, and Bayley started laughing. She tried to attack Belair, but Belair was smart. However, where she wasn’t smart, was not taking off her earrings before brawling, because Bayley grabbed her ear and it gave her the advantage. So Bayley laid out the champ, and I’m totally fine with it. Bayley was doing some good work on this show so it’s fine. We know she’s not winning the title. And I can’t wait for Bianca to get the upper hand. We know what that ponytail is capable of. The Rest The heels beat the babyfaces (There’s just too many names. It’s a 10 man tag, y’all.) Oh look - a 10 person tag involving people who are feuding with each other. Feels a bit familiar too, doesn’t it? Corbin’s End of Days being heavily protected makes me happy, even if Corbin is still doing this King shtick. And that stunner sell from Apollo was incredible, reminded me of the Rock This is just nonsense Reggie flipped out of a bunch of stuff and Nia and Shayna interfered when Tamina was about to win. Whatever. See you all next week. Dominik Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler Ziggler talked down to Dominik for being a little boy in a man’s world, so Dom decided to put himself in the match instead. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, Dolph. Carmella defeated Ruby Riott Carmella’s gear looks incredible. Really cool move where Riott grabbed Carmella with her legs and drove her into the turnbuckle. I’m sure she’s done that before but it’s been a while. They traded roll ups and I really liked Carmella transitioning into her submission from that. WWE will not do right by the Riott Squad and I just have to get over it. Grade: B- |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Raw couldn’t quite keep up the momentum from last week. That’s a shame, but I think that is mainly because, as I’ll be addressing in a moment, WWE is repetition. This is not just a Raw problem. SmackDown has it, too, but SmackDown also has Roman Reigns. And Roman Reigns is THE best thing in WWE wrestling right now. Charlotte Flair and R-K-Bro are second and third. WrestleMania Backlash is on Sunday, and I’m still trying to understand why it’s called that. There was no need. Most WrestleMania matches have been ran back, and some of them ran back more than once! Why? I am bored by this I didn’t want to put this as the top of the features, but man I have to. Okay, so before WrestleMania, I was very much into Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre. They were genuinely exciting and I was super into Lashley as champion. Then WrestleMania went and I started not caring anymore. That’s because the former RETRIBUTION members MACE and T-BAR suddenly got involved for what I thought at first was a reason, but then they disappeared. Braun Strowman was involved at the same time, and they just did back to back repeat booking with he and McIntyre. It was dumb. Leave it to WWE to quite quickly get me to not care anymore. Just a matter of a few weeks, really. Now I’m not caring about one of my favorites from last year, Drew Mac, one of my favorite new champions in Lashley, one of Raw’s best talkers, MVP, and it just makes me sad. There was a match. Strowman interfered and caused a stoppage. He attacked both men. Okay. Stakes! Nothing like some big juicy stakes. (No Vegan “stake” for me, thanks!) The Fashionable Damian Priest talked to Adam Pearce and made it so that in this match with the Moist Wanted, whoever won got to pick the stipulation for the Priest and Miz match at WrestleMania Backlash. Morrison started off their match with a lot of urgency. A lot of hard strikes and kicks that look great. Miz got involved and kicked Priest in the face without the referee seeing. That was after they both got in each other’s face before a commercial. Weird time to cut to a break there since it looked like he might have been getting distracted enough to get counted out. Priest came back with a bunch of nasty kicks and forearms of his own. Miz kept toying with him and Morrison was going to do the Spanish Fly, but Priest broke out of it. And then silly Miz ran back last week. Once again, the referee was distracted by him on the apron, and Morrison had the match won, but the ref didn’t get there in time. Now Priest gets to pick the stipulation for the match on Sunday. So he went up to Adam Pearce and said he wants a Lumberjack match so Miz couldn’t run away. Miz has been very entertaining the past few weeks in this role as an “obnoxious ringside asshole.” Very accurate, and probably why I’ve been enjoying him more. Since Bad Bunny has been gone, Miz and Morrison have been way more entertaining. If that’s what the sacrifice is for Bunny not being around, okay! The Rest Charlotte Flair is wonderful (Rhea Ripley defeated Asuka) We’ve seen this match two times. We’re going to see these women in a triple threat on Sunday. So I’m watching this match going yeah okay seen all of this before, and then The Queen came out. Everything changed. By the way, I should mention that The Queen really is the whole reason why this match happened, because of course! She’s not called The Opportunity for nothing! Flair got on commentary and all I could focus on was her talking. I don’t pay attention to people on commentary usually. But when Saxton asked her the obvious thing we all want to know of what’s up with her and Sonya Deville, Charlotte replied “I didn’t hear you. Blah blah blah” HAHAHAHAHA. It was wonderful. Charlotte is wonderful. This is such a great new iteration of her character. Oh yeah and Rhea won. Asuka, Brooke, and Rose defeated Flair, Jax, and Baszler Oh look - a 6 person tag involving people who are feuding with each other. Feels a bit familiar, doesn’t it? This started out as a standard match, and then Alexa and Lilly popped up on the stage. Bliss said that Lilly was keeping her eye on one of the six women in the ring, and they continued rocking on their swing as the match continued. I genuinely burst out laughing at that, and how the announcers then were trying to make all of that sound sane as they continued calling the action. ....And then Baszler lost control of her legs and Asuka pinned her to win the match. Yes, y’all. Lilly possessed Shayna for a moment and stopped her in her tracks so she could get pinned. Made her legs wobbly and all. Wow. Remarkable. Great way to end the match. By the way it would make the most sense for Alexa and Lilly to target Rhea Ripley, right? After all, she did toss Alexa out of the Royal Rumble but WWE probably forgot about that already. Riddle, Orton, and New Day defeated Styles, Omos, Elias, and Ryker Oh look - an 8 person tag involving people who are feuding with each other. Feels a bit familiar, doesn’t it? Y’all, Omos is highly entertaining in the ring and I did not expect that to be the case. I love his growling and facial expressions. Riddle just vibing with New Day with Orton shaking his head for being in this situation was great. The heels did a great job isolating Woods in their corner until he was finally able to tag Riddle who has no wasted movement. He’s a great hot tag. Orton took advantage of New Day being New Day and RKO’ed Elias to win. Then because he felt like it, Orton RKO’ed Woods and Kingston. Riddle screamed “How are we going to have friends?” LMAO! Xavier was great because he did not telegraph that RKO so I was startled by it. That’s good stuff. I love all of this. Shelton Benjamin defeated Cedric Alexander Prime Alexander was in control and tried to really put the hurt on Benjamin. Benjamin went to do Pay Dirt and Alexander was continually able to duck it. Alexander just trash talked and kicked Benjamin around, until Shelton just did a suplex outta nowhere and got the pin. That was a great ending. I thought Cedric was winning but that was the best case scenario for right now because Cedric will get that big win soon. Well this sucks Sheamus and Humberto Carrillo were having a decent match, and then Carrillo did a Sunset Flip powerbomb from the ring to the floor, and it looked like Sheamus came down hard on Carrillo’s knee and they stopped the match. Hope he’s okay! Jinder Mahal defeated Jeff Hardy The Maharaja is back, I guess. And he brought some back-up named Veer and Shanky. Big boys. Sorry Jeff |
