The PR they will be crazy this week but PR won't get them anything other than a few more recruits and humiliation for the Nigerian army (sadly you can't shame the shameless). A Lt. Col died in the attack, may his soul rest in peace.

Until we stop giving them opportunity to rest after every attack, they will keep coming. Supercamps are good but will only result in huge casualties without a strike force.
the cds is angry about the attack, according to what i heard the signal was sent to the base yesterday. i hope the high command strike back. deploy back general ayeni.

Why does this repeatedly happen? Why aren’t Nigeria military in all outpost, great and small, adopting the policy of mandating that all returning or approaching military parties must stop 50 mitres – more or less – from base and await permission to proceed? Usually permission to proceed is given after a single personnel from the approaching patrol, convoy, etc walks up to the soldiers at the base for id verification.

If we have such a policy then the perils of complacency needs to be drilled into members of the services. If our bases are too rudimentary for such policies then perhaps we need to invest in bases with defined entry and exit points.

Bro...the army have been zoombified to think in certain ways which civilians don't, I'm sorry to say....! With all the battlefield coordinatuon by the army what have they been able to achieve so far, more than 12 years and counting...!! Look back to history..all difficult wars have been won when the civilians decides to get armed and fight for their land or get involved..!! When the Israeli soldiers crossed the Suez canal and the Egyptian soldiers all ran away it was the civilian militia in the town that drove off the Israeli soldiers...many of their abandoned war tank are still their till today...!! ISIS/boko/al shabab etc no matter how you look at them are all civilain militia and look at what they doing to the more coordinated army for years...Not even the almighty Russian and american american army could bring down the Talibans...!!

See bro the Algerians learn the usefulness and power of the civilians in early 90's when they where having issues similar to ours now...what they did was to arm the civilians...madness for madness and the killings stopped and Algeria got her peace today...their remnant are the once their militart is cleaning up today...!!

Trust me.if the civilians decides to carry arms and enter a war...their would be change in the equation...!!
Say no to drugs!!

The wings of the pilot and his copilot will be clipped after debriefing. The error is just too fatal, it will demoralise the boots on ground. Big Time!!

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Whyem15: 11:07pm On Apr 25, 2021
Everything we've discussed in this forum over the years were key to this disaster. Lack of communications, lack of situational awareness, lack of coordination, siting in bases waiting for the terrorists to come attack so that you can repel etc.
The damage has been done, the next thing to do is to find solutions.
Ordinarily, all the troops involved in the battle should be redeployed, they are no longer fit for combat and in need of psychological help.

Communication would have prevented the airstrike on reinforcing troops but may not have prevented the terrorists from disguising as troops to get close enough to wreck havoc. Forcing the enemy to be on defense would have prevented most of this though.
Things are changing in NA but far too slow to see the war over anytime soon.

Good advice; the best time to leave is now, the second best time is by the end of the month. The last 10 days of Ramadan may be very bloody.

I don't know much about the civil-military relationships in the northeast but one of the things that makes military abandon civilians is if the civilians have refused to cooperate with the military or are sabotaging the military's effort or are cooperating with the enemy. The first responsibility of any officer is to protect his troops and in any of the above scenarios, a good officer will rather opt to protect his troops.
The governor should work with the military command in the state to improve relationships and how the military and civilians can benefit from each other. The people should know that when they help the military, their town will never fall. This I think distinguish towns in Southern Borno and yobe from those of Central Borno.
I’ve just told my Organisation I can’t wait again to travel 3 days to festivity. I’ve readjusted it to 10days.

I can barely sleep properly. We are all scared of where might be the next attack embarassed

When a pilot jets out from Maiduguri to a location to assist the Army during an attack, Do these pilots communicate with the ground troops or Maiduguri command centre?

Boko Haram insurgents are attacking Mainok, a town about 60km from Maiduguri along Maiduguri Damaturu road.

Mainok is the headquarters of the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The PUNCH gathered that the insurgents are setting houses ablaze and breaking shops in the town.

This is coming after an attack on Geidam town that left many insurgents dead recently.

Gory details have emerged of how over 70 gunmen raided checkpoints along the busy Port Harcourt-Owerri Road, killing about eight security operatives.

It was gathered the gunmen, who started their operations around 8pm on Saturday, attacked four checkpoints from Elele to Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Out of the eight operatives killed, three were said to be military personnel, three Customs officials and two policemen.

Some were reportedly beheaded while others were burnt beyond recognition.

Sources said the gunmen gained entrance into Omagwa and Elele through the border towns in Imo State.

They were said to have marched through the bush paths and swooped on innocent security men on duty.

A police situation report dated April 25, identified the gunmen as members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

One of the attacked checkpoints located along Airport Road Omagwa, belonged to the Joint Task Force (JTF) and was manned by nine policemen and two soldiers.

It was gathered two burnt corpses of security operatives were later recovered at the JTF checkpoint, which was scattered and burnt by the gunmen.

The gunmen, according to the report, later invaded a checkpoint of the Nigeria Customs Service at Isiokpo killing three customs officials.

It was gathered the hoodlums carted away the rifles of the security operatives and their patrol vans with sirens.

They were said to have advanced to attack the Police Area Command at Isiokpo but were repelled by gallant policemen on duty.

A combined team of security operatives were said to have launched a manhunt for the fleeing gunmen.

The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the attacks on police checkpoints but failed to mention casualty figures.

He said: “I can confirm the attack on security personnel along the Omagwa/Isiokpo/Elele Owerri Road. Details are sketchy.

“The Commissioner of Police has launched a full scale Investigation into the dastardly attack with a view to arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

“Meanwhile, the area is calm with reinforced and increased joint patrols of that stretch and other areas in the state by the security Agencies. So far, the State is calm and secure and no cause for alarm”.

They have a way of identifying freind from foe, sometimes isr pilot must have observed .
Then other times there is an army commander liason with Airforce who is in actual communication with boots on ground to have a clearer view of who is who on the isr screen.

The error isn't from NAF, it's from the army. Years ago I watched a video of troops preparing to storm a terrorist hideout and they were attaching large yellow fabrics to the top and sides of their vehicles because they were expecting air support and would want to be differentiated from the terrorists.
Before leaving air base, pilots have briefings and are told the situation of things where they will be going. Even if the pilots hadn't attacked them, there is a very high probability that the troops on ground in the location they were reinforcing will attack them as they were just attacked by a convoy of similar appearance. The reinforcing troops should have radioed in. Maybe they did and it is the team being reinforced that was negligent. Maybe due to the death of their commanding officer they lost coordination anyway it is, it an accident and a defeat in a war of many battles, make your peace with that and accept the loss, these things happen in wars.
What is excruciating is the fact that this isn't the first time the terrorists will be disguising as troops to attack garrisons. I think the first time was in 2017. Even after more than 4 times it has been used against the army, they may still not change anything.
Another thing is that NA and NAF are too predictable NA holds a line till NAF comes in, fire a few rockets and cannons, maybe drops a bomb and then returns to base and the attack is repelled. They are only setting themselves up for more disasters. Whoever thinks the terrorists will keep attacking the same way must be very foolish. They have been harassed by NAF for far too long for them to have started using MANPADS, thankfully they haven't gotten their hands on those.
The recent attack on Geidam showed them mixing up with the local population, assuring them of safety while using them as humanshields.
The attack on Damasak featured the terrorists laying low immediately they gained access into the town to prevent NAF from striking them only for them to strike very early in the morning.
The video NAF released of the attack on marte showed the terrorists lying in trenches to hide from the aircrafts till it returns back to base, thankfully their heat signatures were picked up.
The terrorists have been observed several times attempting to reduce the heat signature of their guntrucks, thankfully they've been largely unsuccessful with that.
Prior to NAF getting night attack capability, they were attacking at nights.
The terrorists keep learning and adapting, changing strategies every time while NA last chafed it's strategy in 2018.
While most brigadier generals and Lt. Col are in charge of defending garrisoned towns, is there anyone in charge of attacking the terrorists?

The good side to this war is that the Nigerian military is learning albeit slowly. Unless they are totally crazy, another insurgency/war won't be as successful as this.
If not for this insurgency, the military will still be as it was in 2008. Between the beginning of the insurgency and now, there's been huge changes.
