EXCLUSIVE: 30 Nigerian Soldiers Killed As Boko Haram Sacks Military Base In Borno The insurgents also set ablaze a Nigerian army tanker and some buildings in the military base. Militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād on Sunday attacked a Nigerian Army location at 156 Battalion in Mainok area, Borno State, killing over 30 soldiers, military sources told SaharaReporters. Mainok is the headquarters of the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno state. SaharaReporters gathered that the terrorists who came in no fewer than 15 gun trucks also burnt down the military base. A source said the gunmen came in different groups and could not be counted. He added that about 30 Nigerian soldiers were killed while others fled into the bush. The insurgents also set ablaze a Nigerian army tanker and some buildings in the military base. “The military super camp in Borno was attacked today by Boko Haram members with our men putting up a strong fight to defend base and ward off the insurgents. “But despite their gallant efforts, the soldiers were overwhelmed because they could not withstand the superior firepower of the terrorists. So far, we have recovered over 30 bodies of dead soldiers,” a source told SaharaReporters. Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in North-Eastern Nigeria. The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses. In the past months, soldiers have been targeted by the insurgents, who lay ambush on their path. Hundreds of soldiers and officers have been reportedly killed since January 2021. At least 33 soldiers were recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo. The suicide bombers were identified as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Bana Jundullah. The group also claimed four military vehicles were destroyed. In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State by the insurgents. SaharaReporters gathered that the soldiers were on patrol to clear some Boko Haram elements in the area following credible intelligence when they were ambushed by the group. http://saharareporters.com/2021/04/25/exclusive-30-nigerian-soldiers-killed-boko-haram-sacks-military-base-borno |

The Executive Chairman, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, Hon Ali Kolo, exclusively said, 72 hours when armed group of Boko Haram invaded the town, thousands of his people are still trapped and mingling with the sect members, even as he said, the terrorists slaughtered two people on Sunday morning including Kawuri Primary School Teacher, Mallam Baba Tazira. This is even as over 2,000 people who were displaced by the invasion are currently taking refuge in neighbouring Yunusari Local Government Area. Kolo said since the Boko Haram invasion three days ago when he was away for official engagement, he couldn’t find his way to Geidam as the town is under the total control of Boko Haram. He, however, denied military reports claiming that the attack have been repelled, insisting that, the insurgents are the ones in charge of Geidam as at the time of filling in this report. “As we speak, two of my people including a teacher at Kawuri Primary school, Mallam Baba Tazira, a Babur/Bura man have been slaughtered this morning. The teacher who has been a very dedicated staff was slaughtered in his official staff quarters behind the school, and this is in addition to dozens of my people who were killed, injured, displaced and missing since the three days invasion.” Kolo stated. He, however, expressed shock over the military’s statement yesterday (Saturday) which was signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier Mohammed Yerima that ‘the attack has been repelled with 21 casualties from the side of the terrorists’. On the situational update about the plights of the 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yunusari, the Director General of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), Dr Mohammed Goje told our Correspondent that the situation is pathetic, but the state Governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni has directed his agency to take an immediate action to provide relief items. “At this challenging time, as directed by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, we deeply extended our sympathy and Commiserate with the good people of Geidam community over the unfortunate reported incidences. “As an agency of government, we pray for continuous success of security agencies, the victims of the attack and restoration of peace to the affected community. “Among the responsibility of YOSEMA is to ensure all emergency victims and survivors of conflict who need emergency attention are attended to and those displaced from their homes are provided with immediate succor. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/04/boko-haram-reigns-terror-in-geidam-72hrs-on-slaughters-residents/ |

TROOPS of Operation Whirl Stroke have reportedly uncovered arms and ammunition at the palaces of district heads of Cha (Mue Ter Cha), His Royal Highness, Chief Utambe Adzer, and Chief Teran Kwanghbo, all from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. It was gathered that while the former was arrested, the latter escaped with AK-47 rifles through the back door of his palace when soldiers stormed the palace on Saturday. Military source said that troops stormed the palaces of the monarchs based on intelligence report. Chief Kwaghbo was said to have escaped when he heard that his counterpart had been arrested and the soldiers were told that he was in possession of six AK-47 rifles allegedly being used for perpetrating crimes in both Benue and Taraba states. “Troops swooped on the houses of two persons discovered to be district heads in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday and some arms and ammunition were recovered,” military source said. The military source disclosed that one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one locally made mortar tube and one vehicle were recovered from Chief Utambe Adzer. However, a local source disclosed that some soldiers were sighted at the palace of Mue Ter Cha. The source said, “The next moment, we saw that the military has arrested the chief. We also saw them bringing out some arms which we heard were discovered in his house. “They equally razed the round hut located in the palace suspected to be housing the weapons and some criminal elements.” When contacted, Force Commander of OPWS, Brigadier General Clement Apere declined to comment, saying he couldn’t speak on operations yet to be concluded. Source: https://m.punchng.com/Troops-raid-Benue-monarchs-palace-chief-escapes You will never hear of troops raiding Fulani heardsmen, but they keep on raiding people defending themselves against Fulani. If Fulani attack this people now, this ragtag army will be no where to be found. I think is time for this people to start treating the army as a terrorist too. The army is working alongside armed Fulani heardsmen. Let the people protect themselves. |

No fewer than 100,000 people from Damasak town in Borno State fled into neighbouring Niger Republic on Wednesday following multiple attacks by Boko Haram fighters. Government sources said at least 10 people were killed on Wednesday, many wounded and thousands of others wandering in the bush. It was also learnt that hundreds of houses of the civilian population, their shops and government buildings including police divisional headquarters have been burnt to ashes by the invaders. Wednesday’s attack on Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar LGA made it the sixth time in the last two weeks; and in the last four days, Nigerian ground troops supported by the air component have been battling for the control of the agrarian community. There was no official statement from the military on the status of the town, which had hitherto survived nearly 11 years of intermittent onslaught by terrorists. But credible sources said the terrorists finally hoisted their flags on Wednesday, and were still in the town at the time of filing this report. Damasak, situated 188 kilometres from Maiduguri, is a strategic town in the northern part of Borno, bordering Niger Republic and other LGAs in the shores of Lake Chad. The latest incursion was carried out less than 24 hours after a similar one on Tuesday. During Tuesday’s attack, the terrorists were reportedly repelled by the troops but not after they inflicted serious damage on the town. There was another attack on Saturday, April 10, during which 6 people including two women, a man and three soldiers were reportedly killed. Witnesses said a fighter jet had also mistakenly dropped a bomb on a naming ceremony gathering, which led to the death of the newborn baby, its parents and some guests. Authorities have not yet confirmed this. Some locals, security sources and government officials said during yesterday’s siege after they were chased away on Tuesday, the terrorists, firing from all directions of the town, forced distressed families to flee and also took the troops by surprise. The fighters, who are loyal to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), reportedly drove in gun trucks in the afternoon while others rode in threes on motorcycles wielding Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs). Completely confused, some of the residents headed for relatively safer villages in Nigeria and others crossed over to neighbouring towns in Niger Republic and adjoining villages. Women, some of them pregnant and others carrying babies on their backs, with smaller children trailing them were reportedly the worst affected as they left their homes completely unprepared and trekked many kilometres in search of safety. It was learnt that as the victims flee, the Nigerian troops redeployed to take charge in Damasak engaged the invading terrorists to no avail. Our people under siege – Senator Kyari Confirming the anguish in Damasak, the Senator representing Borno North in the National Assembly, Abubakar Kyari, told reporters that the town had been overrun by the insurgents who stormed the area around 1 pm. Kyari, who led a delegation of members both from the national and state assemblies from the area to the Maiduguri Government House where they met with Governor Babagana Zulum behind-closed-doors, later told reporters that the terrorists were in Damasak. “We are aware of the attack last night, they (Boko Haram) burnt several houses and some people lost their lives. Some people sustained bullet wounds and many properties set on fire. “But most disturbing reports that we received this afternoon is that they are back in Damasak now, from about 1 pm and they are still there as of 1745hrs, so this is the latest reports. There is a brigade there but the town was sacked yesterday. “The reports we received was that they have buried 10 people and 20 people have been wounded, so the people have fled the town. “The people are desirous of staying in Damasak but because of the insecurity, some have fled to the bush and others to neighbouring Niger for safety but we came here to meet with the governor with all members of the House of Representatives. “Our major concern is the safety and welfare of our people…We feel their pain, we feel their hardship and we want to give them the assurance that the government is up and doing. Development in Damasak worrisome – NEDC The Managing Director of North East Development Commission, Dr Mohammed Alkali, who also led another delegation and met with Governor Zulum expressed worry over the reports emerging from Damasak town. “We are here over the sad incident that is happening in Damasak. Two days ago, Damasak was under attacked and today it is under attacks; so we came here to commiserate with the governor and our people. We want to see how we can come in and synergise to provide succour to the affected people. “The military is doing well but they should enhance their activities so that we see things ending as quickly as possible,” he said. Historic town in ruins Daily Trust reports that hours after the devastating attacks on Damasak on Saturday, the United Nations condemned the development saying thousands of people would face serious humanitarian challenges. During the attack, the terrorists destroyed the United Nations Hub housing all the workers of the international organisation. It was meant to take support to the door-step of victims of Boko Haram insurgency, which has ravaged almost all the local government areas of Borno North in the last 11 years. Apart from the UN hub, the terrorists had destroyed the Norwegian Refugees Commission (NRC) facilities at Fulatari Ward. They also ransacked the warehouse of the World Food Programme (WFP), which was filled with assorted food items. They stole the drugs and other equipment at the general hospital in the town, in addition to taking away many vehicles belonging to all the humanitarian agencies in the town and set the rest on fire. https://dailytrust.com/over-100000-flee-to-niger-republic-after-b-haram-attacks-borno-town |

Ndume opposes secret trial From Fred Itua, Abuja Over one week after security forces arrested 400 Bureau De Change (BDC) operators alleged to be financial sponsors of Boko Haram, senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has opposed moves by the Federal Government to opt for a secret trial. According to media reports, the businessmen were arrested in an operation, coordinated by the Defence Intelligence Agency and in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The operation was said to have been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020. Ndume while addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, said: “The presidency said recently that Nigerians would be shocked if it revealed the identities of those who are sponsoring Boko Haram insurgents. Can you imagine that 400 BDC operators are the people funding Boko Haram. “When the BDC operators are arrested, what will the government do with them. The presidency is already saying their case is confidential. What is confidential about it?” He called on the Federal Government to expose the identity of the sponsors and those arrested. He said those found guilty must be brought to justice. He said: “The presidency should expose the identities of the BDC operators so far arrested and carry out their trial in public. If any of them is innocent, he should be allowed to go while those found guilty must be made to face the music. “When I was wrongly accused, I was tried publicly and I was vindicated. The trial lasted six years in an open court. If there is any criminal act linked to anybody. No matter how highly placed, let the evidence be placed before the public, there should be no secret trial. Nowadays, criminals are arrested and paraded without further action. Nobody knows what happens to the people who killed 11 soldiers in Benue State recently? What happened to those who beheaded policemen in Cross River State? “If everyone is doing what he is supposed to do as defined by our constitution and laws, we would not have these problems. Citizens should expose suspicious movements.” https://www.sunnewsonline.com/fresh-controversy-trails-trial-of-400-bdc-alleged-bharam-sponsors/ |

With such looses, the NA is being ridiculed by BH & ISWAP time and again. Lessons are not learnt from past debacles and the top brass does not implement rapid changes needed with a foe who learns and adapts rapidly also. Seriously Nigeria is an economic giant in the region but your armed forces are becoming a laughing stock. When I see your defense budget i am amazed, you have hardward most armies would dream of but yet time and again we still hear news on huge looses on men and équipements. I having been reading here about the need for missile frigates and destroyers. I ask myself what's the need to spend such amount of money if the common soldier is facing difficulties in the North. Now there is another crises in the south, how would the NA faces all these challenges. I really see hard times ahead for the NA and its allies in the region. The NA needs to channel more resources to support foot soldiers in the ground and implement rapid changes. RIP TO ALL THOSE VALUABLE MEN WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIFE IN THIS HOD FORSAKEN WAR. |

Toju200:The lawmaker representing Geidam in the federal parliament and the Executive Chairman of the local government have both denied this report. It is said that Boko fighters are still in complete control of the town, having hoisted their black jihadi flag at strategic locations. In fact the family house of the new IG of police, Usman Baba Alkali, who is also from Geidam, is being used as a base for the Boko Haram commanders.

NuraSambo:Since Vietnam, crucial and even decisive campaigns are waged on the ground as well as the media. It is as if I’ve read here not long ago that the current military chief has decided to withhold or not engage media press. If not, it mightn’t be a bad idea if military employ photographers or charge one or two soldiers in every theatre with Photographing &Videoing responsibilities at least for the purpose of the archives. I take it that this, lawmaker representing Geidam in the federal parliament and the Executive Chairman of the local government , is not in possession of Terrorists Flag hoisting and town swaggering photos or video evidence since people in the area would be too scared to capture any. Conversely, due to new Chiefs media stance, the military are unable to provide evidence in support of their claims of having liberated the area. |
