I wish to pay a visit to Jos, please kindly advise me on the most peaceful and nice area(s) to go as a stranger or tourist. Am currently living in Lagos and wish to tour Plateau state, but I hear there are some hostile places over there, please advise.

Jos is divided into parts. North, South, East. Jos North is occupied by Hausa Muslims who are majorly extremist. You dont pass there anyhow. If u must; drive pass quietly without drama. They "Hausa Muslims" can identify them selves. So if u're passing there and they decide to harass u for no reason, pls bare it and move along. Police and Army cannot help you there. Only God. Lol. This Jos North is popularly known as Bauchi Road. Its called that because Jos shares border with Bauchi on the North axis. 45mins to Bauchi from jos.
Every other area of jos is habitable. Rich people reside in 3 parts of jos.
1.Rayfield
2.Millionaires quarters
3.GRA
Those areas mentioned are very neat and is occupied by politicians and well to do individuals. Hotels/accommodation in these region is high. Prices of goods and services are also high here.
In General d people are very welcoming and friendly. If u want to test this, stand by d road side and cry out.Many people will come out to ask u wat d matter is and take u into their home as long as u can stay.
Food stuffs are very cheap. They are blessed with vegetables, potatoes etc
The weather is very very cold. We get close to 12 degree's at times. When it rains at times, we get ice blocks falling down rather than water. Am not joking ask google if in doubt.
Environment wise, they got rocks all over and most people live on some rocks while some live on the sides of some really big rocks. They got some few dams and resorts. Good roads and fresh water. Etc
In short jos is wating for you. Forget about the negative tins u heard. Just stay away from Bauchi Road.

Those places are deep villages. The chaos there is caused by villagers and fulani's. I dont classify those places as jos. because i have no business there. Jos is a major town. Wat eva happens in those villages remains there. There 2-3 military base camps there for security reasons. Less i forget, there are military check points and campa all over jos. Almost as if every street is got a check point. These days when eva theres little fight or crises in jos, it doesnt last more than 5mins because of military presence all over.

Rather than pay for a year. Or hotel. How about u stay in a student environment. U can mix with dem, get to knw places and experiences, babes etc. My point. U can stay with a student "off campus" self contain apartment. Neat, safe, lively etc U can discuss ur terms and conditions with a person or two i'll recomend. Or i'll just recommend cheap hotel for u....say 3/4k per night.

Self contain apartment in students environment go for 80-100k depends on d facilities available. Self contained in Rayfield goes for 200k plus.
i fit recommend cheap hotel doe, 4/5k per night. Or arrange for u to stay with a student in a self contained apartment. U'll both discuss terms n agreements sha.

I live in the US. But I'm very interested in your feedback as to security, Rayfield., GRA ...area..what hotels would you recommend. .combining security...Things to do. .

It is a nice town.
With clement weather.
Food stuffs are cheap. They people farm lot of vegetables, tomatoes and Irish potatoes. So you can imagine.
The people are hospitable, friendly and welcoming.
There are many good hotels(Hill station, LA monde e.t.c), clubs and Cinemas.
Then there are also tourist sites like the Jos zoo and Jos wild life park.
There are water falls many other nature beauties outside Jos city but in Plateau state.
The city is home to hip pop in northern Nigeria.
If you want to see the best of Hausa rap come to Jos.
Jos is now peaceful though you will still see lot of army check points.

And then for the other guy who asked about Mangu.
Mangu is a local government in Plateau state.
There are 17 local government.
Jos metropolis comprises of 2 out of 17 of these local government.
Jos north and Jos south.
The king's (Gbong gwom Jos) palace is in Jos north.
But the Government house is in Jos south.
Most of the stories of violence you have heard before about Jos happened in Jos north local government.
And Jos north is big that they crisis does not happen all over Jos north.
Few areas you hear this skirmishes.
But is all over now.
This things happened in the past.

Jos is nice. Although I left there 3 years ago. You will find a 2 bedroom flat around 200k or so. Feeding is fair compared to Lagos. I don't know if there are many job opportunities there. You know as the country is now na. But you can do business sha. The whole country right now sef, money no too dey.
