Yes! The more school hours apply to, the better your opportunity to select the best one and, perhaps, receive funding.

Sevis fee must be paid before interview and a coupon must be generated to make this payment. However, interview appointment can be scheduled before payment of sevis.

AmbassadorSam01:

Are the chances of visa approval high when applied to many schools, compared to applying to one school only.?

When can the sevis fee be paid before interview? In paying sevis fee,is it compulsory to first generate a payment coupon?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by khoray(f): 6:21am On May 07, 2021
@fairheart

I applied to just one school in the US and one in the UK. I got both admissions. Planning on going to the US because my deficit is less than $1000. If asked how many schools I applied to, my plan was to say one school in the US but from your comment below....What do you suggest? The school I applied to already stated admission will come with automatic full funding while other schools don't have same provision. So I just applied to the school alone.

Hello house!

Is there any correlation between applying to many schools and visa approval, compared with applying to only one school?

How many days to the interview can one pay sevis fee?
There is none , the VO would not know if you apply to 6 or 1. So whatever you tell them.they go with it. Though applying to several helps in finding admission not visa .
Pay sevis fees at least 10 days to be on the safe side

Hello guys, i went for my interview yesterday and got rejected. Will post transcript soon. But for some background.

I am applying to the for masters in information systems and specializing in business analytics. No funding 43,000 sponsored by my mother with a surplus of this available balance in her account. I have a good travel history. Been to USA 2x as an adult, and travelled to over 7 countries, 4 outside africa, never stayed more than a month, schooled in Ghana, mom has always been sponsoring me. And owns her business.

When i went for the intervew,
the VO asked if i have a relative there
I honestly told him yes, because i have visited him during my first travel there.

He went as a student there and during his opt he got married and has a kid. And only visited nigeria twice for the wedding and to see the family. And he works with Tesla.

Surprisingly the VO was really drilling me why he didn't return after his studies, and that "if he didn't return what is the assurance i would?", I was honestly nervous at this point because i didnt expect that type of question.

He also drilled about financing the masters which i feel my mother can and will pay as she sponsored my sister to also do her masters in canada with no issues and my mother has enough savings to sponsor me for a year.

I was told i didnt qualify and was given a yellow paper stating the reason. Which talked about ties to return but when he told me i didn't qualify i believe i heard for financial reasons.

To be honest i got really nervous when he started really probing about my brother even tho he is there LEGALLY. What do you guys feel?

I want to reapply because i feel i can defend my reasons, what do you guys feel? Any advice?

Awww! So sorry. I think if you go again and try to defend yourself you will get it.
I think you should have told the VO that you’re not directly involved in your brothers decision and that as he can see that you’ve been to US and other countries countless times and if you wanted to stay back you would have but from your visits you met with people who are studying or have graduated and that was how you developed interest in studying is US because you were wowed by their level of knowledge and experience

Lolll we actually need to learn how to give answers on the spot. I know someone that traveled for study. He’s married but with no kids but he told the interviewer he has a son.
Now the wife applied for F2 two years later and the VO asked her if she has kids and she said No. her husband forgot to mention that to her.
Then the VO looked at her and said but Yoir husband said you have a son. Immediately she could sense what’s going on, she just changed her countenance and said her child died months ago and it’s a heart wrenching situation she’s just fully recovered from and she’s trying to forget about it. Then VO was compassionate and approved her visa

you should'nt have done this (tell the VO that your brother is now a resident )
(THIS IS A BIG BIG RED FLAG)
you had an extremely good profile
been to the US twice.
good statement of account
and good course of study.

You should not expose your one bit of red flag.

A VO would find it hard to give a person a with close relatives living as residents a non -immigrants visa .
It is a big big red flag
IN FACT THE BIGGEST RED FLAG OF ALL!
That shows the person have no home ties to Nigeria cos his home (family) is at America
except it is an immigrant visa

To be sincere you messed your profile cos this information would be saved for further interview you want to have.

Just try and prepare to look for more home ties that would prove to the next VO .
Like you being married or getting to marry soon
A good job with a multinational company

Visa Approved.
Us Embassy in Abuja. 5th May, 7:45 am
If I say only one person helped me... I lie..
I thankgod for Fairheart, we met sometime early this year and it was funny. I thank everyone, I have gleaned things from everyone.. I ThankGod Almighty.
Most importantly, fast and pray..
Me : Good morning to you Madam
Consular : Please pass me your documents.
Consular: I see you'll be going to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for a masters degree in Civil engineering.
Me: Yes, madam
Consular : How did you hear about this school?
Me: I first learnt about this university in an online research paper that is on the production of biogas from the anaerobic degradation of food wastes. So I explored the program website, learnt about the professor and I added the school to my list and applied.
Consular: Did you apply to any other schools.
Me: Yes, I did. I applied to 2 other universities, nanely: old dominion university and the University of South Carolina.
(Consular was quite while she typed)
So I added, I received two admits, one from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the other from Old dominion university, while I had one reject from the university of South Carolina. So I had 2 admits and 1 reject.
Consular: What do you plan to do after graduation?
Me: with this masters degree, I hope to apply for a position in academia at my Alma mater,; Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu university, where I currently work as a research assistant at the Civil Engineering department. I want to pass on the world class knowledge I'd be acquiring to the new generations of Engineers in Nigeria, and also it will help me in achieving my long term goals of liasing with professors in my Alma mater ,as well as professors in other universities here in Nigeria ,so as to help start similar researches here in Nigeria, just like what I will be working on which is on the production of biogas from the anaerobic degradation of food wastes.
Consular: What is your highest degree ?
Me : I have a bachelor's of Engineering degree certificate .
Consular : When did you acquire it?
Me : in 2017
Consular : what have you been doing since then?
Me: After graduation in 2017, I went for the compulsory NYSc program and it ended late 2018. In 2019, I started preparing and I wrote the Standardized tests such as the Gre and TOEFL examinations. Currently, I work as a research assistant at the Civil Engineering department in my Alma mater, Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu university, were I assist with the preparation, writing, and review of journal articles and manuscripts, and so far we have carried out a research that is on the seasonal variation of the surface water quality of Obizi Stream.

Consular: Is your program 3years ?
Me: it's 2 years plus 1 year OPT.( infact I emphasized that it was optional.. So basically 2years,because that's what I filled on ds160 application)
Consular : Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: Yes, I traveled to India in 2016 ,to have a left robotic pyloplasty surgery, because I was suffering from a pelvic ureteric junction obstruction.
Consular: do you have any relative in the USA?
Me: yes, I have a distant relative.
Consular : How will you be paying for the deficit?
Me : In addition to the graduate assistantship I received that covers my full tuition, my mother will be paying the deficit.. ( She didn't even allow me to continue). She cut in..
Consular : Do you have the bank statements to show for the available funds?
Me : yes, I do... Then I gave her the statements.
Consular: The sum of $ dollars was deposited last week
Me: I said yes, in addition to the money that was previously in the account...
Consular: so that makes it $?
Me : Yes, in addition to my mother's salary bank account in Naira bank statement and her pounds bank statement.
Consular : What does your Mother do?
Me: My mother is a medical radiographer at **** where she has been working for 17 years now, and currently holds the position of the manager of the radiography department.

She took few minutes typing, she withheld my international passport ,served me the white slip on directions to pick my passport...

She finally approvedy Visa. The I said God bless you Ma.

Congratulations, I will also share my testimony here IJN

VISA APPROVED. Lagos. May 6, 2021
Here is my transcript

School: Illinois State University

No funding whatsoever
COA: $33894

For those who didn't put their other names while applying while setting their visa application profile, there is no cause for alarm. I made the same mistake and I was allowed to proceed with my interview.
After the biometrics we proceed into the main hall for the interview proper.

V.O: Where are you going to?

ME: I'm going to Illinois State University for my Masters degree in Hydrogeology ( My I-20 says Geological and EarthSciences but my program is Hydrogeology
While asking me this question, dude was busy typing but I made sure I fixate my eyes on him.
V.O: Why this program? (trying to read my major in my I-20) I quickly told him that's my major but my concentration is hydrogeology.

ME: My life experience influenced my decision to study Hydrogeology I lost my dad when I was 9 to cholera (Na so VO stop typing and looked straight into my eyes, in my mind I was like I don catch you) I continued, ever since then I've always wanted to have a groundwater treatment plant so as to make clean water accessible and affordable to every average Nigerian.
VO: How many schools did you I apply to?
ME: I applied to 3 schools namely: Illinois state university, Ashland University at Ohio and University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
VO: Why Illinois state University?
ME: There are three reasons for this.
Firstly, the research work of Dr Peterson impressed me, he just finish working on radon concentration in groundwater and I strongly believe working with him would help me address the issue of groundwater contaminant ( I asked him "Do you know what radon is all about? He simply nodded.)
VO: Is your sponsor gonna pay for all your expenses?

ME: Yes

V.O: How much ?
ME: I was like you no see am for my I-20 ni) I replied $33,800+ (At this point I was expecting him to ask for his bank statement but dude just moved on to the next question. All these happened while he was typing).

VO: What will this course do for you
ME: (Wa gbayi omo iya mi). I want to have my own groundwater treatment plant where I can partner with botling company, I'm looking at partnering with Nigerian breweries and Coca-cola Nigeria as a consultant to help purify their water from radioactive contaminants.
I also want to partner with NGOs like the Safe Nigeria Group to sensitize the public about the dangers associated with ingesting Radon with groundwater, right now that's one of the leading causes of lung cancer and kidney failure in Nigeria
He typed for like 30 secs and said the golden words. He asked me to go to room 8 that a colleague of him will address me.

ME: told him how I was drawn to the research of professor X and named one of his papers that caught my attention and because of my passion for the mineral sector in Nigeria, coupled with the fact, the Mineral Resource discussed in that paper is about 3 Billion Metric tons in Reserve here in Nigeria. Me: Yes. A Research assistantship

V.O: Will you be working with the same Professor X you talked about earlier?

Me: Yes Sir

Me: Upon the completion of my masters, I hope to work as a researcher at XXXX in Nigeria

You can state the UK school as well and if asked why the US you state your reason. There no law against applying to both countries
