May I kindly get your candid opinions? I recently am pitching for I.T which I am having problem with choosing which language to go for but I finally considering to settle for C++. I hope I am not going for what may have become outdated.
Besides, may I also know more specifics about C++... I would be very much grateful for your kindness.

C++ outdated? thought am not sure companies in Nigeria use it that much, you would be better off learning Java or python. but no, C++ is not outdated. C++20 was released last two years I think.

C++ is relevant o. Many ooerating systems and big budget video games are written in C++.

It is relevant, you won't notice because we don't have all this nairaland theme installers advertising that they will build a project with C++ for N10,000. Only the engineers know the value of it.

C++ is outdated in some areas but the new today they ar using C++ to build some app that that will make c++ be outdated so for eg node.js is written using c++ . So some will say c++ is updated node.js is the latest one not knowing that he/she had used c++ indirectly so that c++ can never be outdated in any area

Depends on your field.

If you are just interested in web development, you don't need C++. But if you are doing anything more like systems programming and such, you cannot do without C or C++.

Operating systems, networking protocols and interfaces, industrial interfaces, Linux drivers, embedded systems etc. are all written in languages like that. So ask yourself which career path you want and learn the tools used in that area.

Although thanks to Covid there are remote positions for C++ developers now, but you can hardly see Nigerian companies using C++ directly. C++ is used for heavy softwares, and since what we do mostly in Nigeria is web and mobile app, you can easily do these with frameworks that has abstracted the heavy lifting that C++ is good at.

If you are planning on using your skill to look for job here in Nigeria, learn any of C, JavaScript, Python, Java, Kotlin, PHP, etc

C++ is not outdated, the latest version of C++ is C++20 and the community are already working on C++23.

New projects are being built with C++ daily.

You can do everything and anything with C++ but the problem is you have to be a very good programmer to be productive, because C++ doesn't have all the cool frameworks you see in most languages, or even when it has, it may not fit your need.

For someone who didn't study Computer Science or an experienced programmer and is looking to get into the Nigeria software development labour market as fast as possible C++ is not your best shot

C++ run the world, but you need to be really good at it

To add to this, last year before the pandemic I get two offers consecutively one from Netherlands and one from Dubai, the Netherland offer is a car company looking for C++ guys for their computer vision works, the Dubai guys were into enterprise solutions, but because of my situation at the time and I fear the stability of both offers. I hold on to my Naija job

Yes. It's relevant. It's closer to lower-level language. So, most firmware and OS developers use C and C++ or a little modified version of those languages. In fact, some graphic/game developers do a lot of magic with C++ maybe through a program like OpenGL.

The challenge is if one wants to be a C++ developer, it's better to know it very well cos it could also be a downfall of your software if you don't handle the programming memory management properly. Otherwise, hackers will be exploiting your program for fun.

In this era of electric cars, autonomous driving, Internet of things, smart homes and Industry 4.0. C++ is arguably becoming one of the most relevant language in the Industry.

C++ is very fast(it requires less abstraction in communicating with the hardware). C++ is also the building block of most of the applications you see today.
