:Only Cabal can make a bank convert a contract Staff!!!That's what I'm saying na. Na cabal. Contract sales staff can use cabal as leverage but you see teller and CSOs, OYO is their case.

Maybe he was lucky cause of his client base and huge cabal (customer's network). But it's almost impossible to grow as a contract staff without going through training school as a trainee.

The person you quoted said the person was even confirmed as a staff before he/she got another bank job.

Defined goal.

Networking between Someone without influence and someone of influence in most cases always lead to disaster and pain that is because the person of influence will see you as a cv dropper and most times will avoid you but if 2 people of influence meet and network it is a whole different game.

The logic is the reason the rich network among themselves and the poor among themselves, take that analogy and put it in the workplace and any environment, you will see the same effect

Influence doesn't mean money per se. You can gain influence by your reputation for being skilled or brilliant at something relevant.

Retain your job, give out the car on Hire purchase.

The risk in HP is very minimal. I'm talking from experience here. Make sure you get a lawyer to draft a very good agreement and collect an initial deposit no matter how little. It's a sign of commitment.

If driver defaults in 2-3 weeks contract is terminated and you collect your car. Install a tracker too.

Finally don't be greedy with the full repayment amount.

Wish you luck.

Skills bring money.

What is the essence of skills without money.

In Nigeria or global setting today, money is everything, money means having influence.

True... networking is over-rated.. as most times you loose money meeting only packaged people and not the real deal..

Well, there is a difference.. the last 5years was without a goal, the next 1 year with a defined goal can make a very big difference... but the bolt driving is not a goal.
Wow,please enlighten me more

Yes, but a skilled person at the beginning of their career can have a reputation but no money. Yet without money can easily network with an unskilled person with money. The basis of networking is simply having something to exchange.

In fact, this is clearly visible in the fintech industry where clever tech people attract massive funding.

Hello,

Just do both. Don't resign yet. Bolt/Uber helps you to meet people and it's a good way of getting a better job. But it's a side hustle and not a full time job.

Learn a high value skill and when you are earning from it, you can leave your bank job.
Re: Bank Work Or Bolt Driver? by LegacyB: 5:26pm On May 09, 2021
As a banker with over 11 years experience I advise you to please resign and take the business risk. Giving out your car on hire purchase or rent would be your worst mistake . And you know weekend only is almost impossible. Best of luck.

Please i beg u in the name of God, if u intend to do this in port harcourt. 80% chance you might lose your car. car snatching is a daily activity in Ph. don't try it in Ph. a word is enough for the wise. bolt works in lagos.

So I'm a graduate of civil engineering, but work as a contract staff in a bank for over 5years with 100k salary.

I bought a functional car which fit into bolt but I'm scared of resigning from my job as I have family responsibilities.

This bank work doesn't give me opportunity to grow with them and time to do other side hustle and I know one day it's either they sack me or I leave.(but one must happen)

Please I need advice if I should still continue this work or start street hustle.

Note: I save the money for this car from salary and side hustle base on what I studied in school.
Salary is good oo but with the experience I'm having as civil servant than earn 100k I must tell it wasn't what I expected because though I have no stress now but I have more money when I was driving keke because this my salary is my monthly savings after solving every other problem and don't forget I eat and enjoy anything I want but I now eat like in my school in order to save at least 40k

Good evening to you bros. This is a true life experience. This is my story I am sharing with you here. I will advice that you pull out from that so call contract job on time otherwise you will end up regretting.
I spent 11years in the banking sector as a contract staff but at the end they swept me away, it happened when I thought that all it's well something I had the chance to go and start something for myself but was scared. I was carried away with the salary and the little little tips I get from customers.

bank job can throw you out when you don't expect, but if you have the car yourself and you are not owning debt and hardworking, you're better off than be a contract staff in bank, because with #100k salary, you must be a contract staff and those guys are slaves. But as a bolt driver, you have time for yourself and your family, you are your own boss, you can venture to any other business at any time when opportunity comes

Bolt driver all the way....but before you begin please have 6 months budget for fueling and servicing of the vehicle.

Your 100k salary may look like gold to you now but you can make all that in two weeks as a bolt driver if you are in Lagos or Abuja. Understanding of route, traffic and traffic laws is the key.

Do not be trapped by your salary, the world is yours for the taking if you have enough balls to take risks.

That being said, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

In my opinion, that is basically an employer and employee relationship, it does not mean you have been accepted into his circle.

On second point, you have to look at the calibre of people getting funding in Nigeria, most are not from the average joe family and many studied abroad or are dual nationalities. To get it correctly, only few are accepted.

Also some did open applications for YC and other incubators or VC firms, the reality is that the relationship is still just like an employer and employee relationship until you have proven yourself either by making cash for the investors before you are accepted.

This is my opinion, it does not mean i do not agree with what you wrote down.

Keep your job, give out your car on HP, when you get another car you can resign and and start the Bolt business, you will not find it difficult if your own car is damaged because you are still getting money from the other car.

Personally I hate banking job, because of time factor
