Real income has continued to decrease even as nominal income remains constant in the face of hyper inflation.

Our country is in an economic mess. It's mind boggling how we can get out of it. Little wonder the rampant increase in crime rate.

I really don't know where this topic fit in. But let me leave it here.

A professional service I charge N100k has not changed since 2017. It even diclined further due saturation and more people in the field, but yet everything has increased.

As at 2018, rubber of oil garri was N300 today N1500. Bottle of red oil N250 now N700. Cup of local rice was 50/60 now N120, cup beans that was 40/50 now N120. Bag of sechat water N100 now N170, electricity tarrif has tripped. Indomine hungry man N120 now N180. Transport fare of N50 now N100.

Cup of ogbono soup N300 now N600. I don't was to even talk of House. Now that Everything has increased my profesoonal and skill service hasn't increased. When I tried to add price people cried the courtry is hard oh and they will you there are many people even ready to do it for lesser price. People don't mind cutting off quality for reduce price.

Now the question is has your profit/salary/skills and professional job increased as of late? And If no. Then how have you been couping with this current things unfolding in the last 3-4 years.

Are you now poorer?

So long as you be salary earner in this part of the world, sorry is your case during inflation.

Like what is happening in Nigeria today, everything has increased more than twice it’s previous prices. But salary still remains the same.

That’s why life gets extremely difficult for salary earners in both government and private parastatals.

The normal is, as at 2020, when prices of goods increased by more than 100%, salaries were to be increased Also by about 100% thereabout. That is, if you are collecting 100,000 naira, employers were to increase it by 100%, by so you should earn 200,000 naira.

But NO! This is Nigeria. You should die before you even wake up....

Hardluck to EmploYees everywhere in Nigeria.

The military, paramilitary, civil servants, etc. God is y’all strength.

These same man (Tinubu) who campaign for Buhari and collaborate with him to destroy this country is now on the front line for 2023 and the youth are beginning to campaign for him because of ethnic and religious sentiment.......
I weep for this country called Nigeria.....

CrazyMan:
This is the major reason why many Nigerians are suffering.

Imagine a making a profit of 500k in your business monthly in 2016 and by 2021, inflation sets in, tax increases, light, food, school fees for your kids...and basically every aspect of basic amenities (rent inclusive) how would such a person survive knowing that you have staffs to pay? Truth is you'll definitely lay off some so as to breath a little.

Crime rate is high not because the police and other security agencies aren't doing enough, but because more and more youths are plunged into the unemployment market, and the government is mute about it.

How many youths with first degrees gotten between now and five years ago can boast of Independence? Many are still squatting, depending on their parents, friends, families...etc for survival. Some are proudly advertising themselves as online scammers, others have resorted into far more terrible channels just to survive.

Those days it was very safe to comfortably embark on a 500km journey outside your State of residence for a job interview, today you will have to confirm and check and confirm any message sent to you for an interview even though it's taking place in your location. Hunger has made us more wicked and evil towards one another.

The problem with Nigeria isn't the government, it's the youths, those in power have stashed up enough wealth for their tenth generation, but the youths killing themselves and defending them online can't even boast of N20k in their account.

The end SARS protest last year sent a very strong message to the government that power lies in the hands of the people, but division, greed, religion, sentiments, tribalism...etc, has blinded us to reality, that's why a section of the youths were contracted to disperse the peaceful youths who were protesting against SARS brutality which involves the back stabbers as well.

Nigerian will continue to be miserably governed, even the 2023 everyone is eagerly awaiting, won't make any difference if we the youths continue to elect the wrong people into power. It might even be worse if we don't wake up and grab our future these old men are gambling with.

So true. That has been my observation as well.
Prices of goods have increased while cost of services has either decreased or remained stagnant. Increased competition is also a factor. Simple rule of economics, the lower the demand, the higher the supply, the lower the price. Moreso, Nigerians purchasing power has seriously declined due to the activities and lack thereof of the leadership.
In spite of the shape of the economy, our governors are still buying luxury cars, dashing taxpayers money to BB Naija contestants, gifting houses to celebrities ..... imagine such irresponsibility!

To be honest, these are trying times for humanity. Nigeria is moreso affected because we have a high consuming and low producing economy.

On a different topic....
Why doesn't Nairaland (Seun and his moderators) share stories from around the world on the front page?
It will go a long way in calming nerves. So many negative stories about Nigeria and Nigerians on the front page day after day, it's as if Nairaland is working with some elements to destroy the psyche of Nigeria youths. But if so....why?
Nigerians supported Seun for almost two decades, they don't deserve such treatment from this Forum.

Seun, you have a responsibility to other youths in this country. Do right by them. Just because you want traffic, you are going the way of Facebook. Remember, nothing last for ever.

Right now, there is fighting in Israel, Columbia, and a whole lot of other countries. Even France's Military is making threats of an impending civil war.

They no longer put foreign news. Even India is just flattening the curve on Wave 2 of Coronavirus. It's not been reported here making many Nigerians believe the world is normal whereas it's not. It's always tribal conflicts on Nairaland front page.
