A soldier should have a flat or muscular tommy. I am a civilian and I hold that standard for myself, being able to run for long distances and to do hard gymnastics and fight should be important for soldiers. If a civilian can do it, soldiers should also be doing it. |

Human rights groups working to address humanitarian crisis in the terrorism-infested region of Nigeria’s Northeast, have decried the continued “transactional sex” which they said was destroying both women and girls in various Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs). A report obtained by our correspondent from Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) in Abuja, revealed that both government officials, security agents and other camp managers have continued to subject both women and girls to sexual exploitation and abuses of varying degrees. The report said that while these vulnerable women and girls narrowly escaped terrorists and killers of their loved ones, they have fallen into the hands of sexual predators, who now trade food for sex, with items meant to be distributed free of charge in the camps. According to the report, food items donated to the IDPs by government, international donor agencies, and humanitarian organisations were being hoarded and sometimes diverted by the camp managers. It also stated that more worrisome was the fact that security agents detailed to protect the vulnerable people have also been severally fingered in this sordid situation, yet relevant government agencies have failed to show accountability, by thoroughly investigating and punishing the perpetrators of the sexual abuses. It further revealed that even pregnant women have not been spared, as many of them are said to have been continuously raped in the presence of their helpless children. It was also learnt that both international and regional human rights bodies have, at different occasions, called on the Nigerian government to investigate, prosecute and punish perpetrators, but nothing has been done. “International and regional human rights bodies have urged Nigeria to investigate, prosecute, and punish perpetrators of alleged sexual exploitation, including transactional sex in IDPs. Food distribution was under the authority of males, creating the conditions for sexual abuse due to scarcity of food. “The government’s failure to respond to these violations has raised concerns that it has not prioritized its obligation to protect women and girls from SGBV or to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes,” the reports said. https://www.newtelegraphng.com/sex-for-food-destroying-girls-women-in-neast-idps-camps/ |

Xbee007:So does nigerian army. Actually it seems most nigerians with enough money eat very badly. It sounds weird to say, but many poor nigerians have a better diet than most middle class and rich nigerians. |

truthshots3:You are also very wrong. Both the rich and the poor eat badly. Nigeria is currently suffering the double burden of malnutrition, some are suffering from undernutrition and some from over nutrition then both from micronutrients deficiency. While the rich eat enough to fill their stomachs, the food they eat have little to no nutrients. Thank God for Dora Akuyili that started the fortification of certain staple foods with some micronutrients. Anyways, this is a military discussion thread, let's stop derailing. |

truthshots3:Ironically, the reverse is the case in America and most other developed country. In USA, poorer and less educated people tend to be more obese due to lack of quality diet. In Nigeria, rich people tend to binge eat without recourse to call |

Whyem15:You need to broaden your mind, nutrition in the population has consequences for the military as testified by the us major general in that video. My grand mother, though noble, was poor and she fed us food which didn't have any fancy thing, our only drink was water, we ate a lots of vegetables, mushrooms...we all thought we were missing the good food we would be able to eat if we had money. Fast forward 24 years, we live in europe and have decent financial situations and have come to realize that eating properly is the same as eating what my grandmother was giving us...life is funny |

#Nigeria: A Edi al Fitr photoset from ISWA. Shows large quantities of fighters (and others) in multiple locations. All standard AKM/T56 variants (Couple of HMG armed technicals seen in one set), although I do spot an interesting Zastava 5.56mm RPK (M90 pattern).
