Good day to mummy's in the house, please I really need your opinion, my boy is 1 yr old this week and I have being giving him NAN formula. But NAN is getting too expensive and I was advice to start him with peak 123 since he is 1 year old now. Is it ok with it because wifey is disagreeing with it. There is the saying that goes he that wears the shoe knows where it pinched.

From one year, you can switch to any fullcream milk like Dano, loyal and ordinary peak that adults take. Peak 123 is too sweet in my opinion, you can give the normal family milk just ensure it's fullcream.

Good evening mamas. New mum here.

Please I need advice on what to do. My new born won't suckle directly, but if I express it he takes from the bottle. The issue is because he is not sucking directly, I am not able to produce a lot. The highest I have done is 150ML in one day, since then the most I have done is 30/60ML so we have been on formula.

What can I take to boost milk production and can I still make him suckle directly??

Are your nipples inverted, or big? Could most likely be the cause.
For lactation, try liquids-milk, tea, pap, etc. You can also try oats, chicken, lactation cookies. That could help.

They are actually big. I've heard about the lactation cookies, but I was skeptical about how effective it would be. I'll order it straight away. Thanks for your response.

I did the same for three days and my baby started sucking my breast.

I'm a living witness, I wasn't lactating for two days after delivery, we were advised to get native black soap (just a little quantity) to wash my breasts, miraculously or say coincidentally I started lactating after the wash.

Good evening Sabi mama. Abeg help a FTM.
I gave birth 8 days ago. And decided to do EBF. However breast milk didn't come on time so he was on glucose water for two days before breast milk came. After I started with breastfeeding I noticed that baby has been pooing almost 6 times within 24 hours and is runny and bright yellow. I don't know what to do. He is sucking well and not weak or running temperature. But he poos 4 times in the day and twice at night. Is it normal. And please are there foods I should avoid..

EBF baby can poo after every feed as well as go for a whole week without a poo. All normal.

The manual breast pump I bought only worked twice..ive tried it several times again it's not working. I don't know if electric pump will work well cos I've never used hreast pump before. And I can't wait 3 weeks for breast pump to arrive if I order now from china because I'm in pain.my breasts are engorged and I'm having fever with cold and headache as the baby is not sucking all.
Pls help with suggestion. The suction on the breast pump is not holding my breasts so I'm thinking maybe cos the breast is soft and sag now. angry. My baby is not upto 3 weeks yet

Hello ladies, i really need your opinion on something that has been bothering me. I am proud to be in the forum because i learn alot. I am from nov 2020 group and i have a 4 year old son plus my nov girl. I am seriously googling, pondering, researching just name it about whether to add third baby. Honestly i know that this will be considered by me lastly but i just cant make up my confused mind. Please no bashing because i know this is a discussion between hubby and me. I already told him i wasnt going for a third one around the period i birthed my girl. Omo, the pains and stress of csection and sleeplessness were taking its toll on me. So the guy fled. So now, he was like, whatever i want. So he is indifferent. I dont just know why i cant decide. Please TTmamas any clue? Im in my late thirties.
Your decision to increase your family size shouldn't be via googling now grin.
I think the major determining factor is the sort of life you want for the kids and yourself and which is very much centered around finances.
If your pocket/savings/investments can comfortably cater to basics (shelter, accommodation, food, good education upto tertiary level) and others (vacations, eventuality of a loss of income etc) then by no means go ahead.

Personally I've stopped at 2, 4yr son and December 2020 girl (I'm in my late 30s too)...this is what we can raise comfortably in this Nigeria of today..........but if I decide to relocate abroad I might add a 3rd grin

After all Tony Elumelu has 7children in this our present economy grin

Very runny and bright yellow could be an indication of diarrhea. Does it totally sink into the diaper?

It happens like that for some women. I heard taking more fruits like water melon and pinapple and water helps. It may take sometime though but it helps

Hi mommaz.... I've been offline a long while. How una dey? Hope the LOs are doing great. Last i was here, some moms complained about speech regression or delay in LO. What's the update? As for mine. Teachers say he drops words in school(Just started him in Jan) but have not seen much progress at home.

Hi Mama! Sorry if this is coming late, but I just wanted to add my update since I was one of the moms that complained of my boy's speech delay.

One thing I have come to observe is that some boys take time to talk and do other things than girls, especially if they are the first child. I'm not generalising (because there are fast boys too).

Mine did exactly the same thing; he was talking and repeating words before 1 year and after some months, he just went cold turkey.

I was very worried. And was telling myself that I won't wait until he turned 2 before enrolling him in school, but Covid happened. And Rivers state reopened school very late ( late November 2020).

He started school that November and when they closed in December, my boy had nothing to show for the one month he was there. And worst still, they were just 3 in class ( I guess people were still scared of enrolling their kids).

But when they reopened in January, they increased to 8 kids. And honestly, there has been HUGE improvement ever since.

Although he still babbles most of the time, but he can count 1-30, and knows his alphabet sounds. He still hasn't picked up much words at home, but I believe he will get there.

My point is this, have you checked how many they are in class? I think this played a huge role in helping him cos when they were just 3, it was not so.

Did you or your husband have speech delay when growing up? My husband was a late talker according to my mum-in-law. So you might want to put that into consideration and be more patient with him.

I even had to take my son for a tongue tie check a second time when he was almost clocking 2 years (he did the first one when he was a baby). And they cut something again the second time. I was even scared that they have done more harm than good. I wouldn't dare try that thing again with any of my kids except when they are babies (and only if I can see that the tongue is really tied).

I don't want to sound religious but my sister I was so concerned about his speech delay that I took it up in prayer. And I believe God has a hand in this progress that he is making.

Please make it a prayer point and I believe God will make you smile at the end.

Mama Zaynie has given a lot of important tips that can help too.

In conclusion, please be PATIENT with him. I always encourage myself in the Lord and tell myself that every child develops at their own pace.

And if you finally get some funds, consider taking him to a general hospital for some assessment if things don't improvement.

Be strong sis, you've got this!

Keep putting him to the breast Mama... Most times when babies start preferring the bottle to suckling directly it's because the bottle is easier for them. But with breast, they have to suck well to get milk out.

When my baby was some days old,my nipples were too big,to enter her mouth and stay there sef na war. She will try and get fussy. It was hardwork for her. It really got to me. I never believed my nipples would one day fit in her mouth and we would nurse comfortably.

Mama Zaynie told me to keep putting her to the breast. Her paediatrician also said, because she is taking the bottle, when it's time to nurse, she will be waiting for the milk to drop in her mouth like it does with the bottle.
So,when you nurse, press the top of the boob to mimic the flow of a bottle. Soon he will adjust.

Now,we nurse so well and my milk supply has stabilized too.

Always make sure you're hydrated...drink water like a fish. Lol
Take oats, pap, bitterleaf soup(if you can find)

I also drink water before I nurse, and after

For the lactation cookies, you can get from Rofemiguwa, a Mama here on nairaland. Her IG handle is @livialactationtreats. Her products work

It will all be fine

Hello Mama, have you found a solution?

An electric pump will work well, that's what I use.

I got mine from Zaynie, you can reach out to her,and have it delivered immediately.

You can also do a hot water massage and hand express to get relief in the meantime

Sorry about the pain
