Good day to you all. Please, I'm here to seek your candid advice. I recently became a data analyst enthusiastic. I have performed some tasks using some excel tools(Vlookup, pivot) and also did some udemy courses yet, I feel empty. I had my first and second degree in Physics Electronics and Communication Technology respectively. I've tried learning python via some YouTube videos, but I'm not satisfied watching videos without real life projects. Recently, I've been contemplating between going for another degree in data analytics and running some professional certification in data analytics. My challenge is, I really do not know what the best option is. All I want is to learn and be confident that I can handle tasks successfully. I'll appreciate all useful suggestions.

Data Analytics is a context based learning and any material that does not define its context will not fulfill your yearning. People from different industry use the same data differently depending on what they are looking for.
from my personal experience, if you have a learning material that does not include dataset and the context of that dataset, it will not achieve much for you.
Since you have your degrees, try and get skills needed by engaging in very good learning materials with dataset and context defined.
Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate and IBM Data Analytics Professional Certificate are offered by Coursera and I am sure they will be good for you. Udacity and DataCamp have similar courses.
Above all, get real dataset yourself and work on it while acquiring your skills.

All the best

just to put this out there tho, interviewed for a Data Analyst role last week, got to the last stage and negotiated for a salary for 250k (Entry Level). could have been picked just that i am still serving and i am not in Lagos (Job is in Lagos and requires you to be on-premise at least twice a week). this thread has been helpful alot since i started my journey. Keep pushing everybody! it is a rewarding career.

Inteewted in this. Can you help send to my mail via Talk2simpleife03@gmail.com or WhatsApp via 08134042126

for sql if you want Microsoft sql server then u can use YouTube search kudvenhat check his playlist and look for sql server tutorials approximately 149+ videos in sequence( from beginner to advance) .. very detailed... by the time Ure done and simultaneously practicing you would be able to perform T-sql to some extent... then you can keep on practicing afterwards.

Also download microsoft sql server express 2017, also Management studio..
you can then download sample databases like adventurework and northwind databases from Google which you can use for practice when taking the course...

I can also send a problem exercise for one of the databases if you are interested.

Impressive I must say.
A quick one bro. What was your data analysis learning journey like?
Did you do certificate courses online. If yes, be kind enough to drop some hints.

Just being curious cool

started with excel than power BI (DAX) then SQL. I didn't learn Python. No certification apart from the one I got from Udemy. Maven Analytics is what I have been using to learn on udemy. If you can learn SSIS, SSRS and SSAS it would be awesome. You can transistion to BI Engineer

My excel & SQL skills are at intermediary level and I’m about to take up some python crash course - Google Automation in coursera.

I intend to wrap up with data visualization.

With your input, guess I have more areas to cover then.

IMO, Power BI is Python and Excel combined, apart from ML.

initially I learnt PBI using Kiril Eremenko's course on Udemy, he only treated visualisation, in 3days I was done and I felt like what's the hype about PBI since its only Drag and drop... lol
I went back learning python till I was comfortable.

I was making research, then i discovered I could do more with PBI. I went back and got another video on udemy like 5gig content.
mehn this guy broke down PBI in and out.

basically PBI is divided into 3parts, visualisation, Power Query and DAX... with Power query, you can manipulate and query data to taste.
with DAX, you can carry out any data analysis calculation(This is deep).
Formally, when I wanted to do any anything involving datetime analysis and Forecast, I would use Statsmodel's ARIMA in Python, and that could take average of 10lines of serious Code, when I came across PBI, I could forecast with 3-4 clicks... mehn I was stunned.
most people don't know that one can Webscrape with PBI, you can do allota wonders with that monster package.

I would advice everyone to take full advantage of it if you really wanna go deep in Data Analytics.

you can contact me for materials or link to good materials.
peace

Edit:
When it comes to Business Intelligence, it has Data modelling ability where you can link many Datasets together so they interact as one and so many more.

Bro, abeg, if u still get this file, I believe once you check where the file is saved, you should be able to get the details. Abeg help check

You are so on point.

Forecasting with ARIMA comes with a lot of stress. Picking the right order values and all.

Poor me just learnt you can actually carry out forecasting from power BI. Had to google that just now and like you said, its just a few clicks.

Learning never stop as they say.

Thank you chief.

But scraping from web is not as palatable as we may think. This works the same as get data from web in power query in excel shared with power BI.

The only downside to both is, they can only scrape from table.

Beautiful soup and other scraping framework give you flexibility to scrape unstructured HTML page.

python is great, I'm also about to start a course on python too then learn Pyspark and airflow to transition into data engineering. Just keep improving bro. The most important thing is the concept and how to Google your way to solve a particular problem if you are stuck!

Why Data Science is important?
Data has always been an integral part of disciplines. If we have a look at any business data direction has always been a task. Virtually all industries are digitizing, Nowadays. Additionally, data collection in sensors, weblogs, cellular devices, and instruments have increased in the current times. Believe it or not, there is a boom in new technologies which are emerging simply to organize this avalanche of information. With the support of Data Science, the experts are able to identify the patterns and regularities in all sorts of information which lets the corporate produce value. It will not be wrong to state that the information scientists are the future of this generation that is forthcoming.

Finally took a bold step today, I starting my journey into data science starting with Python, mehn I was dozing off while watching the course, guess it was my first time. I'm devoting the whole of this month to constant watching and practicing. I believe a month will do then I can transit to other courses.

Have you gotten comfortable with tools like excel and SQL? If no, then starting with Python is like jumping into a 20 feet deep pool when you can't swim.

Thanks for your response sir, I only have basic knowledge of excel I haven't dive into sql, my thought was to learn Excel and SQL after I'm proficient in Python

I'll advise you start from the basics...
Excel/Google Sheet
Power BI/Tableau
SQL (MySQL/Postgres/SQL Server are some of the most used DBMS)

A lot of things will make more sense to you by the time you start learning Python/R with respect to Data analysis/science so please drop python now and start all over.
