Lol, you call this ambush.....if boko haram ambush these guys, in their standard op.... they wouldn't even have that ledge to hide, because the .50cal would destroy that small cover gradually and RPG rounds would be flying. I wish this was the kind of ambush our men usually face.

When buhari "closed" the borders, notice how it only meant closing southern borders.

Whenever anybody talks about erecting a physical border in the north, just notice how emotional the northerners get and start talking about the fact nigeria is just a new thing and that the people on the other side of the border are their brothers with thousands of years of shared history.

This lack of physical border helps terrorist groups like boko haram to hide and do cross border raids. It helps terrorists to exist.

Why to you think the USA uses , so much air power? And artillery? Where you see one 105mm piece or 2 at an Nigerian army location with unreliable air support......the USA probably have 20 155mm howitzer, overlapping coverage, then they probably have up to half a dozen fighter jets they can call in, that's available just for that location, probably equal number of Apache helicopters , super cobras, b52 bombers....how many alpha jets do we have for the whole north east, how many mi35or mi24, does the whole north east have available? You think we killing 20 hht, 40 bht, if we have the resources the USA had, bht, would be attacking the army bases? Yes we can do better, we pray for better wisdom for our policy makers.....but please don't compare Nigeria with USA, unless we have even half of their resources.
The USA military has more money than the whole of Nigeria, some USA companies are richer than the whole of Africa.
Don't expect the domestic cat that we are, to punch the same weight as a lion in the jungle.

I have watched videos of Nigerian army troops being ambushed. I have also watched videos of American army/marine troops being ambushed.
There is one major clear difference.
*COORDINATION.
The latter have a more coordinated response. You can easily identify who is directing orders to reply Enemy fire. Some Nigerian Army videos show coordination. Especially videos from a source on twitter called G1abbakar.
We need to be coordinated.
I also watch an American Army(U. S AFRICOM) training/exercise with a Nigerian Army company. The U. S instructors kept stressing coordination. We weren't coordinated in offensive in the early stages of the exercise. We need to address and solve this problem

Foreigner who sold over 450 rifles to bandits and 4 others arrested in Zamfara

Five notorious suspects involved in banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and illegal possession of firearms have been arrested by the police in Zamfara.

The suspects were paraded on Friday May 14 at the Police Headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.
The state police spokesperson, Shehu Mohammed said the suspects were arrested as a result of the collaboration between the police and the state leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

Four AK-49 rifles, nine magazines, 960 live ammunition, and assorted charms were recovered from the suspects accused of terrorising various communities in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina States in the North West, and Niger State in the north-central part of the country.
Among those arrested is a Nigerien citizen, Shehu Ali Kachalla, a notorious gunrunner who confessed to have been in the business for more than three years. He revealed that he has sold no fewer than 450 rifles to different criminal gangs across the north-west region.

One of the kidnappers identified as Abubakar Ali, revealed that he operates within Kagarko and Chikun Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. He also confessed that he had been in the criminal business for three years and has killed five of his victims who could not afford to pay ramson to regain freedom from captivity.
Ali also disclosed that their leader pays them between N600,000 and N700,000 in any abduction that attracts N20 million ransom and above.

One of the reasons is the quality of recruits.
In the usa they recruit people based on the peoples abilities whereas in nigeria, tribe is a factor, quality is sacrificed in the name of tribal interests: eg a guy with a masters degree from the south might be declared not qualified for a post which would eventually be given to a guy with school cert from bauchi.

I remember GEJ had put in place policies to promote officers with a higher educational background. As soon as buhari moved in, he discarded that program and demoted the officers who had gained from it.

I know we have poor recruits. Nepotism and tribalism. But soldiering is a unique profession. Its not dictated by educational background. Its just like football. Its about your technical gifts. Your brain. Your physical strength. How you use it for your advantage. How you use it to protect yourself and defeat the enemy.
P. S. I don't support Nepotism and bad policies

If a soldier can't apply his training in the heat of battle then he is in the wrong profession and he should resign or be sacked.
I see it like being a boxer which I was at a time, you train on technics and in the heat of battle you apply your technics, your strategy... that is what makes you a real fighter.

You've never entered that ring I see, nobody whom has ever boxed would call it a game. You don't play boxing.

The first time I ever boxed, I sparred against a guy who had more than 30 amateur fights, and more than 12 years of experience, I thought I was going to die. That fear got me hooked. I never feel more alive than when I'm in that ring.

I've watch Danger close. There is this Egyptian movie I watch on YouTube, is base on a true life story of Egyptian army fighting terrorists in Sinai. I can't recall the name.

I remember a scene where terrorists disguise like Egyptian army just to get close to a check point and attacked the soldiers with a gun truck, it was crazy.

From Ogbonnaya Ndukwe, Aba

Motorists and other road users along the Ikot Ekpene Road into Ogbor Hill area of Aba town, Abia State, ran for their lives as police and army personnel engaged one another in a brawl on Friday.

The fight was said to have started when policemen from the nearby Eziama Divisional Police station, on a road check at Onyeador Close/Ikot Ekpene Road/East Street, allegedly slapped a soldier during an argument.

Though what caused the said argument was not immediately known, the soldier who was not in uniform at the time, returned with his armed colleagues and engaged the policemen and a real fight ensued between them.

An eyewitness and car owner at the spot told Saturday Sun that his vehicle particulars were being checked by a female police officer, when the army team arrived and began beating and threatening the police team with guns.

"It's when you get hit that you have to stay calm"... boxing is so weird, when you are being hit with a jab, instead of moving backwards, you move forward and move your head out of the way which opens up your opponent.

You are running into the fire instead of running away from it...I just love this sport.
A lot of things you do in boxing go against human natural instincts.

This is pure nonsense, you are totally ignorant of how the recruitment/enlistment process in the military works. To say recruitment is based on tribal interests is false and wicked and shows that you've never participated in any recruitment/enlistment process of the military before because recruitment in the military is based on states, every state have a slot alloted to them and even officials from Federal character Commission visits screening ground to ensure compliance. If sokoto have 25 slots, Enugu will also have same amount. Yes, we can't takeaway the influence of godfathers but that influence is within your state meaning you'll be battling with your village men for slots. I don't know why you people like underrating northerners when it comes to education as if you're any better than them.
..and saying that someone with a master's down south will be ignored for someone with school cert from the north is just a figment of your biased imagination. Do you think there are no northerners that are applying to join the military with masters without success? Make una continue to dey decieve Una self by fuelling your overbloated ego travel out of your domain and get the shocker of your life.

The civilian jtf from borno who were rushed into the army without having to compete with the rest of the country, how does that fit into your narrative ?

Also don't take things too litteraly, you are talking like a 20 year old kid right now.

People like you feel they need to defend the nigerian army for whatever reason, the stupidity of your youthful condition might be one of the reasons.

The nigerian army recruitment process is lopsided in favor of the north, face reality.

By the way I dont live in a 3rd world country.
But I still remember as a kid when going through my fathers military papers all the names of the people signing them were arabic, even as a kid I found it very strange.

When a 10 year old kid asks his dad why all his superiors have northern looking names, you know something is going on.

Those who chose to be blind can remain blind. Among my dad's coursemates, most of the guys who reached the rank of brigadier general are northerners, most of them were among the worse in courses and had lower education than their southern counterparts who were compulsorily retired at the rank of colonel for most of them.

Members of the Borno CJTF were recruited because the terrain were peculiar to them. You must understand that some of those members, were sent to the depot at kaduna for basic military training and later redeployed to the theatre of war. We talked about experience. The army is trying to get experienced hands on deck

You can't have it both ways. Either a region, an ethnicity is being favoured, either not.

No matter the excuse you are going to put forward, it is too clear that northerners are being favoured.
The same buhari demoted the officers who were promoted due to merit of their educational background and the same buhari discarded the program altogether.

Why did he do it ? Because most northerners are lagging in the field of education. The same guy pushes borno youths into the army without these youths competing with the rest of the nation, because...

Can't have it both ways

Regardless of my arguments in favour of Nigerian troops facing the insurgency, i do know we have good and bad officers and men, but i don't support cowardice done by some our soldiers. I am a student of Colonel. Achuzie, General Patton and Brig. Gen Adekunle. These are officers that have fought tough war of attrition. These officers set high standards for their men. In as much as we see a soldier as a human, a soldier mentality, teaches a soldier that he is superior to the enemy and a first class citizen

Absolutely correct. But they were 2000+. They formed a swimming school at 3rd marine commmando division occupation area. Issac boro's men were even involved in the invasion of mainland portharcourt in 1968!. His men were superb. Infact, they were called special forces. They were our first special forces
