Why Did PDP Not Restructure Nigeria? by Rossinkup: 10:11pm On May 17, 2021
PDP led Nigeria for 16 years. THE SOUTH led Nigeria for 16 years, and controlled hundreds of billions of dollars, much of which was looted.

Fulanis were powerless.

Why didn't the PDP start the process of restructuring?

They did not. But it is a NORTHERN govt which has the least to benefit from restructuring, that you expect to start the process?

Failing which you break up the nation?

What sort of gross stupidity and foolishness is that?

Instead of foolishly seeking to break up Africa's biggest economy, why not wait till a southern govt replaces Buhari in a year's time, and then make sure that this time, a full restructuring of the nation is achieved?

That Nigeria is not restructured today is the fault of the south, not the north.

The south had a good 16 years to do it, and failed.

Try again with the next govt and stop disturbing us with your foolish secessionist rubbish.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.

You controlled the national purse, and the armed forces.

YOU were in charge.

Not Tinubu or the north.

Hopefully, with the new incoming southern govt, there will be no more excuses.

How were they on his neck? Why can't the south be on Buhari's neck so that he can restructure the country, if it is so easy?

Excuse makers.

Just admit that you were too busy looting to care about any restructuring of anything.

Stop telling lies.

PDP has not 'zoned' its presidential ticket to any region.

The fact that you feel the need to tell lies shows you have no argument.

There is an unofficial, but always followed, gentleman's agreement among the major parties that power rotates between north and south at elections. Meaning that ALL the politicians are fully aware that the next president of Nigeria will be a southerner.

If YOU don't know that simple political fact about your country, it shows you are ignorant, and unfit to contribute to political debates.

Thanks for admitting it was the fault of the south.

Don't blame anyone for your political naivety.

You should have been more than able to pre-empt the future based on the past.

The cry of marginalisation and northern domination is as old as Independent Nigeria herself.

It is no one's fault but yours that you failed to correct things when you had the opportunity.

Warey just to remind you that we're in 2021, and APC Buhari government has been in power since 2015, he has been given the vote to lead.

You've made a fantastic point. One I never even thought about.

Those in power, whether southern or northern, never want a restructuring of Nigeria.

They are happy as things are, and the southerners only shout 'restructure' when they are out of power.

The southern ruling classes BENEFIT from Nigeria as it stands, and their cry to ''restructure'' is really just an empty opposition cry to embarrass/destabilize the Buhari govt.

The minute the south come to power, all talk of restructuring ends, because the southern politicians BENEFIT from Nigeria as it is.

How?

They benefit from the protection given them by the federated Nigerian military.

They benefit from the centralisation of national income. If we were to truly restructure, that would mean the Delta would get to keep all their oil and gas earnings, which account for 75% of fed govt foreign exchange earnings.

No more miliki.

No more monthly allocation to states.

No more money for projects, salaries, etc etc.

Igbo politicians would starve. Yoruba politicians would starve. Hausa and Fulani politicians would starve.

Nigeria may not be restructured in any fundamental way, because NONE of the politicians actually, truly wants it.

And for the exact same reasons given above, Nigeria will not be allowed to break up either.

The op is right.
Expecting the northerners especially a president with a military background to restructure nigeria is plain stupidity.
Buhari will never restructure nigeria. He will rather go to war with any warring faction than negotiate the unity of nigeria.
If southerners are passionate about restructuring as they claim. They should hold the jugular of their politicians, and drum it into their ears that RESTRUCTURING IS A MUST AFTER 2023.
Anything apart from this is just playing politics.
However, it's good the noise of restructuring is getting louder...I hope it doesn't go silent once we have a southern president come 2023.

THAT is the crux of the matter (the highlighted).

I believe it will all go silent again, for the aforementioned reasons.

Truth be told, the ONLY PEOPLE in NIgeria for whom restructuring is a good idea, are the Niger Delta people.

Nobody else.

It's all just NOISE.

Does Oyo state really want to forgo the monthly allocation from Abuja, from oil and gas receipts, in favour of cocoa export receipts?

Does Anambra state really want to forgo monthly allocation from Abuja, to depend on puny palm oil export earnings instead?

Of course not. Those things earn you peanuts.

So the south will come to power in 2023, and there will be NO restructuring. At most, it will be cosmetic restructuring - state police, etc etc, but with no major reshaping of the national income centralisation and allocation systems.

The plain, unavoidable truth is that restructuring amounts to impoverishing the rest of the nation to benefit the Niger Delta.

So it won't happen.

But why did it take PDP till 2014, their last year in office after 16 years, to produce that document?

The whole thing should have been done and dusted long before 2014.

What they did amounted to dumping a hot potato on the next guy's hands to avoid getting scalded.

The next guy should have resignef if he was not up to the task. You do not take a job and tell your employer what your JD should or should not be.

You are in NO position to tell anyone to resign for not doing what YOU had 16 years to do but didn't.

Why didn't Jonathan resign if he couldn't restructure Nigeria?

Instead he left Buhari with a document.

A piece of paper.

You should understand Nigeria environment better, restructuring in fact most of Nigeria challenge is not a debate between APC and PDP. It's either between elites and masses or between North and south. Party is just an avenue to realise individual political agenda.

Yeah, but you can only do the restructuring through the parties and political system.

Hence individual interests will play a huge role.

Op i agree with you 100%. In fact that's my main grouse against the pdp government asides corruption. GEJ had 10 months to implement confab report which was concluded August 2014, so he cant even blame his successor. This was thesame guy who became president only after an uproar from the entire country in protest against his exclusion. They r hungry n now want a beneficiary of the system, a retired general, to restructure for them...

Afterall they gave us this current structure (Ironsi) and they failed to restructure when they were "pillars of GEJs government". Now after losing out, they want to shift goal post in the middle of the game cheesy.... their pains haven't even started.
