All these governors most of them don’t think of the day they will vacate the office.. What you become in life doesn’t matters, What you live to do in life matters a lot.. A cobbler maybe more relevant to the society than a governor

Who doesn't know that civil service in Nigeria is overbloated with unproductive people? Every governor that comes in use the civil service to compensate his friends and community, rocketing their salaries. That's why recurrent budgets are triple of capital budgets...which is absolutely abnormal for a developing country.

They come to work every morning, gisiting and selling things in their office. You see bunch of newpapers and they just talk about politics, sports, etc. Some of them come to work any day they want. Some just fill the attendance register and rush to their side hustle. At the end of the month, they want to be paid salaries. Salaries for doing what exactly? undecided

Besides, el-Rufai has always complained that many teachers in Kaduna can't even spell their names correctly. Now, you ask yourself: What exactly have they been teaching pupils and students?

I continue to say that Nigeria needs sweeping reforms. We cannot continue to do stupid things and expect positive results. When it comes to the country, we prioritize sentiments. But when it comes to our personal businesses, we put competence first. And someone is still worried that the country isn't making any progress. undecided

So how does sacking 45,000 workforce help the situation when he never employed another 45,000 better trained to replace the sacked workforce?

Would that not affect society?
Would that not affect insecurity?
Would that not affect out of school children
Would that not affect poverty figures?

The multiple effect of this right now cant be compared to what ever advantage right now.

Let every governor reduce the number of political appointee they have: special adviser on..., adviser on..., etc.

With this kind of development, l don't think hellrufai will yield to the ploy of Kadsu students over increment of the fee... I'm very sure the students are also calculating their move on staging a protest

You make sense on the bloated civil service and productivity, but where there is divergence is the allegation by NLC that the El rufai led Kaduna state government laid off over 40,000 workers in 2016 and till date they haven't been paid their entitlements, and has now penciled down another set to lay off again, which El rufai has assured no going back. And I am yet to read where the state government refuted this claim of non payment of staff laid off in 2016, especially knowing how they provide statistical proof to whatever they are doing. This I believe gives labour more sympathy.

Nigerians are too emotional for a country that wants to develop.

Imagine people will still support NLC against the illegality they’re about to embark on. Because NLC has problem with a state governor, the whole country should suffer. That’s economic sabotage. The same thing Elrufai is fighting them for in Kaduna state, they want to replicate it on the whole country. I trust rivers state Governor sha. They dare not try that nonsense with him.

We need better union laws in this country.

A man on ground fears no fall.

Nigeria is already on ground. The only way we can go if we get it right is the top. We won’t get to the top if we don’t shed part of the loads(troubles) that got us to the ground. The redundant Civil service is a major part of what brought us to the floor. People who receive free salary without working for it. They give birth at high rate upon free salary. No productivity.

It is either we damn the consequence now and grow or we fear the consequences and keep coming back to the ground. The choose is ours.

When we talk about damning the consequences, do you also realise we are in a recessive economy with inflation figures in double digits?...

Where do we place the "shed" people?..

If you want to clean up the Civil service and down size, you don't do that by firing 45k people in one fell swoop. You do it systematically and in bits.

[b]Very sensible and excellent post. Is it not the same useless and hopeless workers we all interact with in state capitals that frustrates and exploit innocent citizens before they do the job they are paid to do? Only a fool will say that the civil service all over isn't bloated. Of cos because of sentiments like my papa dey work there, my aunt they work there etc we av refused to say the truth.
Which among u will av a private business and pay people for doing nothing? Is it because its government?
What El-rufai is doing is over due and I call on all governors to adopt the same. Hire only those you can pay and let go the rest to go and farm. Lazy fuccking hopeless goats lazying around offices all over. From Borno to sokoto to Oyo to bayelsa. Fools will just come register their names and leave for their homes to go drink palmie in south or burukutu in north and expect to be paid at end of month including pension when they retire.
NLC should do their worse. El- rufai sincerity not in doubt. What his predecessors wouldn't do in Abuja, he came in and did it despite all opposition and today Abuja is better for it. Many do not know that he has the smallest number of commissioners.
Naturally, we Nigerians are tough, stubborn and wicked to ourself. A leader like El-rufai is required who will take tough decisions and not sentimental ones.
Once again, NLC, kiss my arse.

45 000 workers retrenched? Omg

45,000 redundant workers.

There's nothing bad in laying off redundant workers as long as they are duly compensated.

It's a norm all over the world, both in the corporate world and the civil service.

When recurrent expenditure is so gargantuan that it leaves little or no room for capital expenditure and infrastructural development, then drastic steps need to be taken,.
