Good dey guys..... I was discussing with a friend of mine. He wants to move out of the country(uk) but his parents are trying to cajole him to stay ( he’s from a well to do family and they are financially capable)

His plan is after nysc he would go for masters and find his way.

He is 21 and currently serving (he’s field is IT)
But the issue is that his parent are trying to fine tune his head to stay (he’s the last born)

Their excuse is that
1) you would do menial jobs there
2) there is nothing there
3) even if you get a good job there, it’s difficult to rise as a black man
4) you will be lonely

Their main bone of contention is that there is nothing there.
Note: his dad and 4 other siblings out of 5 studied in the uk tho.

My friend doesn’t even want to stay atall, most of his friend are in the uk, he doesn’t have friends in Nigeria except a few. He doesn’t like going out because he said his mind is not in Nigeria. If you see him ehn you will know that he’s depressed. All he wants is to move to the uk.

He’s not even a badboy he doesn’t smoke, drink
He’s not a womanizer

(2 of his siblings have been in the UK SINCE early 2000’s and are already citizens)

The dad also isn’t saying he should not go, but after service, he should get a job first probably with Goverment (due to job security because his dad retired with the government) then work 2-3 years before going for his master.

His point his that he wants to go now that the funds and everything is intact. What if something should happen in future nko?

My advice for him his to leave immediately after service after all he has siblings who are in their early 40’s there to put him through and also a lot of family friends there

What would you advice

He should listen to his parents. Best and honest advice from them. If you are well traveled, you will surely understand the parents advise is the best

Does he have cows? Is he Fulani? These are the only FIRST CLASS citizens in present day Nigeria.
He should stay if he is these and a Muslim. Otherwise, he should give the next son of the woman selling in a provision store the opportunity.

If he is depressed in Nigeria then he would definitely commit suicide in UK cos UK is as boring as hell compare to Nigeria.

If you are financially ok in Nigeria, trust me, you don’t have any reason to trade that for UK.

Why do you think African rich men even middle class don’t stay in Europe(UK) cos the weather and social life are completely Zeros with racism on top of it?

The only reason why people from poor homes stay in Europe is cos of employments(menial jobs-89%) and exchange rate. If £ & $ are at the same rate with Naira today, i swear down, 90% Nigerians in USA/UK ll be packing their luggage’s by this evening heading to different airports.

Like his parents said, nothing in Europe/America if you r financially ok in Nigeria but if you r from poor homes, why not?

Tell him to japa without thinking twice. Which kind yeye Federal job. Even Buhari that has federal job is traveling out anyhow.

I think his parent doesn't want him to go because they can't afford to have all or almost all their children outside Nigeria. They don't want to be lonely

The parents know what they are doing. It's quite dangerous these days to not have your own offspring around. One former VC was killed by his 2 trusted domestic staff and they just poured chemicals on his corpse while they flexed his money and assets.... His kids were abroad... It went undetected for months!

A cleaner doing a full time job in UK is paid better than a Director in Federal Civil Service.

But if his reasons for leaving Nigeria is because all his friends are in UK then it’s not a good one. On the aspect of being lonely might be true depending on the part of UK he’s planning to stay. (But don’t forget white babes the rush Nigerians o, lol).

For there’s nothing special in UK might also be true but don’t forget that nothing too special is in Nigeria too. At least, you will see usefulness of being a human in UK.

For career wise, as an IT personnel that guy will get a better Job that will pay him nothing less than £60k p|a all he has to do is doing a little upgrade courses here.

Finally even if he ends up as an Care Assistant, at the end of every month, he goes home with nothing less than a million naira after Tax and 500k savings after monthly expenses.

So, how many Jobs in Nigeria can guarantee you that?

UK is best when you exploit opportunities in UK (although very, very, VERY limited opportunities exist) to create quality of life in Nigeria by building a legacy, taking advantage of the pound sterling. If all you want out of life is electricity, running water and healthcare UK is for you. But life will be boring and will pass you by in the blink of an eye. One year of life in Nigeria is equivalent to Ten in Britain.

A once upon a time access bank branch manager is currently a kitchen chef abroad because he felt there's a better life outside Nigeria.

Don't overlook those examples from your parent. Abroad abroad, forget the hypes, you will work menial jobs your eyes go clear.

If he loves his parents, he'll do as they wish.... Its important that grown up children should not all travel and leave their ageing parents here because of many reasons...

I had an older family man who told me that he will do whatever it takes so that his daughter (married)would not go abroad like others.

He loves kids/ grandkids around him... Loneliness will kill him... Security wise, it is not good as well, being with strangers

op, what do you mean by the statement; '' he is not even a bad boy cos he doesn't smoke, drink or womanize''?
So we that smoke and drink are now the bad boys ahbi? Make ya head dey ya neck o!
Now back to that your over pampered, weak, ajebutter of a friend., let him know that with the kind of money his parents have, he can create his own London here in Nigeria, because the Buhari administration we are all crying at will have nothing to do with him lest he has envisaged that this country will burn in no time, aside that, he should just stay and be a Nigerian that he is and stop whining.
Abroad is meant for low and average income citizens whom this country has frustrated to a halt. These set of people need to leave this country and seek refuge in those place so as to bring something meaningful out of their generation which this country has tarnished.

Make sure you tell him o!

Let him go to the UK provided the fund is available...

1. It is true that he might start with menial jobs depending on the location in the UK
2. There is peace of mind for him as young guy without wife and kids which could also serves as an advantage
3. To rise means he will definitely need to keep acquiring knowledge and certificate to the highest level and also the ability to deliver too is key
4. Loneliness is 100% sure... making friends is not always that easy

But in all, UK is better even if he will still be back to Nigeria... the certificate will definitely give an edge or advantage.
