So you people don't even know that the misapplication of the principle of redundancy is the reason for the whole crisis?

What people don't seem to realise is that the retrenchment done in Kaduna is a test run for what the FG & other states plan to do.

If the one in Kaduna succeeds, then the FG & other states would follow suit. They are simply learning about responses & how they can be countered when it becomes nationwide.

Section 20 of labour act, Cap L1.

Redundancy
(I) In the event of redundancy-
(a) the employer shall inform the trade union or workers' representative concerned
of the reasons for and the extent of the anticipated redundancy;
(b) the principle of "last in, first out" shall be adopted in the discharge of the par￾ticular category of workers affected, subject to all factors of relative merit, in￾cluding skill, ability and reliability; and
(c) the employer shall use his best endeavours to negotiate redundancy payments
to any discharged workers who are not protected by regulations made under
subsection (2) of this section.
(2) The Minister may make regulations providing, generally or in particular cases, for
the compulsory payment of redundancy allowances on the termination of a worker's em￾ployment because of his redundancy.
(3) In this section "redundancy" means an involuntary and permanent loss of em￾ployment caused by an excess of manpower.
Thanks. Let's hope the governor follows it.

El rufai only used this to save face. He is now attributing the impasse to a breakdown in communication between the two parties. Shey El-rufai that is proud, incorrigible and unreasonable will want to "communicate" with you?

He should have gone ahead with fully implementing his devilish and insensitive plans and see himself facing challenges he may not be able to curtail.

The dangers of allowing him to go ahead with the plans are numerous. HIS other APC governor colleagues are watching how things pan out - remember they gave tacit support to his retrenchment policies. Once they see him succeeding in this retrenchment, you can be sure that will be a template adopted by the other governors and even the federal government. Even PDP governors will not say it was an APC governor's idea but they will adopt the template with immediate alacrity.

A precedence was created before. Aregbesola was the first governor to start owing workers salaries running into years. He was also the first to start paying half salary and percentages of salaries. Now every governor in the federation have become addicted to that evil trend and made it the new normal.

Tinubu created outrageous pension for ex-governors of Laos state. You'll can see how every other governors latched onto that impunity with reckless abandon even to the detriment of the recurrent expenditure of their poor state.

I don't like El-Rufai but on this one, good one by El-Rufai!
Those criticising his action are those who have never been to the North.
I did my NYS in the north and I can tell you that more than 700 people come to the local government Secretariat to collect salary at the end of every month.
Go there after salaries have been paid and you'll see less than 50 people at work.
It's really very bad and it takes someone with a lot of guts to deal with the situation.

but really the gonment is right though i'm not Hell Rufai's fan. The rot in the workspace in the North is really terrible especially Loku gonment(Local Government).
They dont come to work and you see them in large number appearing 2 or 3 days to the end of the month loitering around the secretarial only to be see sharing and distributing money in Large sacks. At least i witnessed that while in the north.

Yes, there was this problem as at the time Elrufai came to power and within two years, he solved that problem. He sacked thousands then and no one batted an eye because he was right. Those that regularly went to their workplaces retained their jobs.

But in this case, he's merely trying to reduce workers regardless of their efforts without compensation. Some of them have obtained the "higher education " that he had been demanding but the state refused to acknowledge it in their data and as a result, many were sacked for not being educated enough. Also, some of the posts do not need anything beyond SSCE. Is he expecting Diploma holders to work as cleaners and messengers for him?

And then there's forceful retirements. I wonder why he's still on his seat if he thinks a 50-year old is too old to work.

So far, this Ayuba Wabba,or whatever is his name, has been a very very useless labour leader.

Just imagine, everything he came to kaduna to upturn/oppose has been approved right in his presence and with his approval.

Then, what has labour been fighting?

Ayuba Wabba isn't even different from Buhari,
LIFELESS
The ignorance on NL is often baffling.

What do you think he came to fight for? Can Labour realistically prevent a government from retrenchment?

Wabba is not useless, please. Coming from someone who I'm sure has never participated in any protests in his life. The Labour leader from the outset insisted that if a worker must be retrenched, due process must be followed and the said worker paid his benefits. This is the same thing the FG is affirming.

So what are you yapping about?

There are a million reasons why we are here but that is a story for another day. The fact is simple. 80 percent of the resources of state going to the infamous 5percentile is just ridiculous, disastrous and insidious.

This country and the world at large has gone through major, major shocks this past year and a half. Only the Nigerian civil service has remained unbothered about making the sacrifices to keep this country alive. How can that be.

How can it be that it is only the civil service that guarantees jobs and income for life no matter what incidental economic storms are out there. Thay is grossly unfair.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost in Nigeria this past 18 months. Hardworking, patriotic folks walking away without a whimper. How will they feel seeing this unfortunate turn of events by these 'privileged' few.

Let us get real in this country. It is not when government folks kick that we know things are really bad. Nigeria is twenty times plus bigger than government.

Many points above from your thoughts are very wrong to say the least. I will address you by asking............who employ the civil servants in the first place?

Mind you the civil/ public servants are the vehicle that drives the policy, programmes of this same Government, either with corruption or not. Let me rest here.

El rufai is right on this one. However, there should be some form of compensation for the retrenched.

From the resolution, its a big win for Kaduna. Other governors would implement same in their states once Kaduna falls through. Even the FG.

El rufai might be annoying sometimes but he is a visionary leader with balls!

The employer shall adopt the principle of "last in, first out" in the discharge of the workers affected, subject to all factors of relative merit, including skill, ability and reliability. This means workers who have been in employment longer will be considered for discharge before the latest workers to come into the employment.

Last in, First out means the person who get employed last will be considered for discharge first, not your interpretation.

But how are the political class making sacrifices?

How many governors have reduced their appointees - be it Aides, Special advisers, Commissioners etc to cut government cost?

How many have reduced their entourage in a bit to save some money?

How many have cut down on their personal office benefits, to save up money for their respective states?

How many of them have stopped taking huge Security votes OR how many can comfortably account for the Security votes they have been getting?

Must the Common man always be the one to make sacrifices?

The principle of redundancy comes in to play when there is excess of manpower, then the workers will be sacked on the basis of who came last into the job, in order words, the newly employed will be sacked ( last in first out). However, if the employer goes ahead to emply anyone after sacking others, the principle of redundancy was not followed.

El Rufai has lost the battle actually!

Redundancy law says when employee that is being sacked for redundancy, his/her severance cheque must be ready at the time of issuing termination letter.

So El Rufai needs tens of billions to ahead with the sack. Labour know this

l like your objectivity. This is actually the situation in most LGs up North. Most of the LGs are populated by people who have no business being there. But because of the political repercussions most governors are unwilling to stamp out the rot. One good thing about El Rufai is that has the guts to confront the issue head-on even though his methods are usually ruthless.
