I don't know how anyone can refer to the JF-17 Block II as a 4.5 gen aircraft.

It beats my imagination honestly.
Worst part is the info is open source.

Common with 4th / 4++ generation aircraft. SAAB gripen C/D of SAAF have similar capabilities.

Nothing to prove JF-17 is better than gripen C/D as their capabilities are very similar. The gripen having technological advantage in some areas such as AESA radar, lower RCS and better engines which gives gripen an edge over JF-17 thunder ⚡. That doesn't mean the JF-17 cannot bring down the gripen in combat.

Gripen which SAAF does not have AESA radar, there is no evidence it has a lower RCS as the JF-17 and it's engine is not better.

Both Aircrafts have very similar characteristics, the Gripen C/D is slightly better but not by much.

Please nobody crucify me but I must say the truth where it's due, President Buhari may have terrible economic and political policies but in funding military acquisitions he gets an A.

I'm not sure with the previous administration will not be asking now where the money is. President Buhari came in and immediately gave approval for the JF-17s and thanks to President Donald John Trump paid cash for the very powerful and advanced CT/COIN A-29 Super Tucanos plus other acquisitions across board for the military, ONSA and NIMASA.

The current defense minister deserve commendation for effective leadership.

I agree, Buhari has very terrible economic and political policies.

He has done really well in funding the military, especially taking into account finance available.

The previous military chiefs have also judiciously used procurement funds, especially the Air Force and Navy.

i can see that some people .............. so they can put aesa rader and advance equipment on a exiting structure?, so upgrade cannot done on platform with old structure?. your argument is baseless

It can be done provided it meets SWaP parameters which is already restricted in the first place , even than one can work around it but with penalties in capabilities and performance

If developer is ok with it , it is their choice

US TO SUPPLY NIGERIA DRONES TO CURB INSECURITY
The United States government is showing their commitment towards helping Nigeria to overcome the security challenges, recently they revealed their plan to supply drones.

The American Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Mary Beth Leonard, stated this in Sokoto at a round table discussion with journalists in the state.

Leonard said the drones would help Nigeria to end the activities of bandits, kidnappers, and Boko Haram in the country.

The American ambassador said: “Insecurity has shortchanged the development of the country in many areas of human endeavour.

“America is concern about the security situation of the country.”

The ambassador further explained that the US has been supportive of Nigeria on information gathering and hardware to combat security through modern technologies and other relevant areas of concern.

She said, however, protocols and channels that facilitate the implementations were considered by departments and expertise.

The ambassador who is going round states in the country to inspect American programs in the country said, “USAID had from 2015 to date invested about one hundred and twenty-two million dollars on different activities that comprised improving primary healthcare, immunisations, public access to quality healthcare, education, agriculture, and empowerments programmes.

SAAF Gripens have a ps-05/a radar, which is not an AESA but let's be sincere is ahead of the KLJ-7 V2 which the JF17 block 2 is equipped with.
The issue with the SAAF Gripen is they didn't buy any long-range air-to-air missiles. I guess it suits their requirements since those Gripens are mostly equipped with short-range air-to-air missiles.
On the engine, the Gripen is equipped with the Volvo RM12 turbofan which is a General Electric F404 built by Volvo. The JF17 uses the Klimov RD-93 turbofan or the Chinese WS-13A which the Pakistani refused to use because it has maintenance issues. The RD-93 is good but it can't match the GE F404 which equips F-18 flown by Kuwait and the Swiss, Boeing T-7 Red Hawk, HAL Tejas, KAI T-50 Golden Eagle, and the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk. The RD-93 consumes is less fuel-efficient and has a low life span as compared to the GE F404. But one can say the RD- 93 can survive harsh conditions especially dust and bird strikes and is also easy to maintain.

It's basically the kinematics, stealth technology, avionics including RADAR type and payloads

From technical perspective

Few of the 4th generation features are

1. RSS (relaxed static stability) aka intentionally unstable aerodynamic design

2. Full digital fly by wire flight control system to control the unstable aircraft & with advanced flight modes

3. State of the art avionics including radars with advanced features & countermeasure suite

4. HMDS & glass cockpit

5. Advanced navigation systems and aids like ground proximity warning system, terrain referenced NAV system, takeoff & landing aids etc

6. Use of advanced composites and alloys

7. Incorporation of onboard BITE at system/subsystem level including health monitoring systems

8. FADEC enabled engines

Etc

On top of the above 4th gen features, following few of the additional features which is attributed to push 4th gen to 4.5th gen are

1. AESA radars with features like NCTR, LPI, jammer suppression capabilities etc

2. Sensor fusion drawing from multiple onboard sensors like radar, IRST, EW sensors etc & also offboard sensors

3. Advanced full spectrum EW capabilities with both active & passive modes

4. Low RCS

5. Advanced SDR based self healing mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) for network centric operations etc

Etc

FYI majority of fighters dont have all the said features be it in the 4th gen or 4.5th gen, yet they get classified in the above categories becz it depends of the OEM/user etc, it is their prerogative

Make NAF no allow Indians go near that aircraft o! If not Pakistan fit vex cancel subsequent orders grin those countries don't see eye to eye and I think the JF-17 is a direct response to India's Tejas series.
I know the NAF have no serious allegiance with any country just like ashawos we will open up to any country that is ready to do business with us(A good policy), we will collect Aircrafts from US, Pakistan, Brazil, Russia etc and have a buffet of different varieties of atleast 4th Generation aircrafts in our inventories even though some of theses countries are arch rivals. I suspect the reason why they refused to allow cameras show the cockpit of the JF-17 might not be unconnected to the rivalry btw Pak & India.
All in all the NAF is really having it good, even the CAS is also rated on the Alpha jet and even holds an instructor license on the bird, the moderator at the event even confirmed it.

All this while I thought the gripen comes with AESA radar and lower RCS as a standard feature and I also thought south africa didn't buy BVR missiles because they plan to integrate theirs not knowing they have no requirements for BVR.

This are the kind of things we should be learning here not all those jargons many people talk about here.

Hey Nigerian cum Indian it seems to be that your time of the month. People who sound condescending are actually the dunces.

Who dey talk only because of national pride. And yes we go celebrate the JF-17 who want to be blue in the face can be blue. We all remember the humiliations we suffered here cos of no true 21st Century Aircraft in NAF inventory even though the NAF before now had proven to be sub-saharan Africa's most viable Air Force and arguably Africa's most prolific in terms of hours flown in combat.

If you cannot show face then shut the trap. Nothing stops you from engaging in empirical reasoning if you really think you know. We since destroyed the southies. They've scampered for life save for one lone wolf betimes masquerading as an i.diot here.

I don't come out and talk anyhow. I know exactly the things I say and carefully worded.

You must think you are Emperor Nero to issue a desist letter but to your chagrin I dey here oya come force us believe otherwise.

What happened between India and Pakistan recently is public knowledge. However you or anyone try to spin it we all saw a captured Indian pilot shot down by the Pakistanis. Now tell us it didn't happen. In war between states optics matter and that pilot shot down and captured, publicly interrogated on live television is all the Pakistanis needed to prove they are an Air Force to be reckoned with which everyone knows they truly are aces.

If India so much as think they had an answer where was the retaliation rather the Indians sent an SOS to France come save us please.

The Indian Air Force chief is on record saying if they had Rafales Pakistan would never have retaliated and like lightning Rafales are delivered from France but guess what the Chinese has since better ideas for the Pakistani JF-17s to counter that threat which would be even more embarrassing if India try any nonsense. To China any embarrassment Pakistan can cause India is a win for China much like Taiwan for the US against China.

Oya come beat me I don talk am. Reel out your technical jangos sry jargons let's see if it meets up to scrutiny cos you think sey you know something. No bi only clueless you go see.

Arrant nonsense.

No just vex me ooo

Guess this answers your question about the AESA regarding SAAF. No need for response.

I'd add it is subjective to say they have no requirement for BVR. They actually want it not that it's necessary, they have no threats.

But it does seem they do have a very wicked IRIS-T not that it would be much of any advantage against BVR. Largely funding is mostly their problem and then BEE.

Lol, I grew up here, was even baptised in this water it was much cleaner and not polluted then, there is a sailing club there too, i used to fish and swim across these waters.my elder brother used to sail wind powered boats and kayaks and used to bring medals home then.
I remember once when I was on break, the SBS would swim from their base to the sailing club, I remember an instructor telling them, that in case of mishap in water, they need need to be able to stay afloat for at least 2 hours, pending when assistance or rescue comes, those were among the first sets of SBS. I think it was during Niger delta crisis or beginning of boko haram issues then.
How time flies, then all that was in my head was how to pass out and be doing fine boy officer, kai, we have paid dues sha, I hope we have peace, so that we can live this fine boy officer life.
I remember having a conversation days back with a childhood friend, that's a naval officer and recently posted to the east, reminding him, to better lay low , and not start broadcasting he is an officer, remove all stickers or whatever from his car, and practically be a civilian once he steps out of the unit, because soon this ESN might start targeting individual security personnel, if check points and police stations become increasingly harder to hit and not rewarding in the number of weapons they cart off.
I hope we have peace, because only then can we truly reach our full potential.

Top bandits’ leaders in Zamfara State identified as ‘Dogo Gide’ and ‘Black’ have warned farmers in some communities that unless they work on their farmlands first, they won’t allow anyone to cultivate land as this year’s planting season approaches.

To heed the warning sounded to them, Daily Trust learnt that the residents of some communities in the state had begun working on the farms of bandits’ leaders.

A resident in Dansadau town told Daily Trust that some farmers from villages near Babbar Doka, a community located 10 km west of Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area, had started mobilising to go and clear a farmland belonging to Dogo Gide, a notorious bandits’ leader in the area.

“They have since started mobilising to go and clear Dogo Gide’s farmland on Saturday. The bandits’ leader had earlier asked farmers around the area that they should work on his farms first before he could allow anyone of them to cultivate their land.

“There is desperation on the part of the farmers as everyone wants to cultivate his land as rainy season begins to set in. The armed criminals have for many years forced farmers to abandon their farmlands. Dozens of farmers have been killed, kidnapped and maimed by the armed criminals.

“Dogo Gide and his lieutenants are taking shelter in forest straddling Kaduna, Kebbi and Zamfara States.

In the same vein, a resident told our correspondent that three canter trucks loaded with farmers from communities of Kurar mota, Ruwan Mesa, Unguwar Makeri, Mai Taushi, Danbaure, Hayin Madi and Chabi, had last Monday, worked on a farmland belonging to notorious bandits leader terrorising the area identified as ‘Black’.

‘Black’ had earlier warned farmers in the area that no one would be allowed to cultivate their lands unless they worked on his land first. He promised to guarantee farmers’ safety if they heeded his directive.

“The farmers have cleared the bandits’ leader’s farmlands last Monday and are now waiting for the rain to start so that they plant for him,” Magami added.
