Friends and family members of a Nigerian Air Force pilot, Flt Lt Taiwo Olufemi Asaniyi, are grief-stricken at the moment as the young officer, who was about to wed, died when a Beachcraft 350 aircraft crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday.

Asaniyi was the pilot of the ill-fated jet which also claimed the lives of his co-pilot, Flt Lt Alfred Ayodeji Olufade, newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and eight others.

Friends and associates of Asaniyi have since taken to the social media to mourn the youth.

A tweep, @_victor_kings, wrote, “Flight lieutenant T.O Asaniyi. He flew the plane, we had his introduction in March. I was going to be his best man.”

“Ahhh, no now, not Mr Asaniyi. Still saw his WhatsApp status update this week. Dear Lord!” @blessnoyiz expressed shock.

“May their soul rest in peace. My condolences,” @bcube234 tweeted.

The PUNCH reports that at least 20 military officers have lost their lives in the last three months in three crashes involving Nigerian Air Force jets.

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, seven NAF officers died onboard a Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft when the jet crashed in Abuja.

Also, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said an Alpha-Jet aircraft involved in the anti-terror war against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province lost radar contact in Borno State.

Two officers were onboard the missing jet which was later declared crashed and the whereabouts of the two airmen unknown till date.

I am still amazed as to why a top General in the place of Chief of Army Staff should be flying in a old small turbo prop beechcraft 350 aircraft manufactured in the 70s. Is it that there re no modern aircrafts in NAF or NA fleet??

If the accident was indeed weather related, modern aircrafts wouldn't have just gone down like that..

Turbo prop aircraft are best for short distance, even US government agency uses Turbo prop and propeller driving planes instead of jet engines

The fact that an aircraft model began production in 1973 doesn't me all model were made in 1973, the particular model was still produced till 2015

There is no Igbo officer on that plane because the late General just like President Buhari does not believe Igbos deserve any opportunity talk less of being with him on the same plane. Don't be surprised he only uses Igbo officers as drivers and domestic officials

It's unfathomable what his parents and family must be going through right now. His life was cut short at his prime.

My kids can aspire to be whatever they want but I don't think I am going to allow any of my kids join Army or Police. Three air mishaps in Nigerian army within 3 months. Oga o.

my brother was a dpo at bayelsa. they kept rotating him around to other state.

but burutai remained too long in his position to implant his loyal boys in the army. boys that would be his dirty work gladly.

that plane crash was premeditated murder. the plane did not crash. it landed at kaduna airport and exploded. what does that mean?
