Adding to this, you have to obtain a degree in International Development Studies or International Relations to have a chance.

80% of staff do not have this degree shocked

This is misleading and untrue. Make una dey fear God O!

If you don't know say you don't know. Which one is misleading? The part about getting a job with UN being competitive or in Nigeria it is particularly difficult? I've had a family member work for them, I've done multiple interviews with them. What is your point?

Really, working with the United Nations can be a national issues, can be according to the requirement of UN from the member states of the United Nations, the member state nations of each countries are expected to bring enough representative and the countries representatives can be taken care of by the countries they represent and some UN staff are being paid depending on the job's categories those that UN pay salary can be from the Secretary general down to other staff, others are volunteers that can be taken care of by their countries or groups!

What do you mean; U don't get an open ended contract ?

tito44:
Lol

Least pay in UNDP or WFP is like 420k per month (for the drivers). No tax and pension deductions. Some Agencies of UN pay as high as 1.2m a month for mid-level officers. The only thing is that ur contract gets renewed after every 6months ( and if u re not in good terms with ur manager, he/she may choose not to renew ur contract). U don't get an open ended contract like other international firms and NGOs. I know this coz I work for......

Which of the agency are u gunning for?

try smaller agency if you cannot get the big one. This was many years back, trying to remember the name but its headquarters was in the UK. It was when they sent me to Darfur, I had other plans going on and I opted out.
I'm ready for new opportunities I work with one of the paramilitary here but menn the pay isn't worth it, I want to try something new that I can and will be confident with, please if you have any name or site that can offer any job related to my study I'm fully available, thanks

The information you seek can easily be found on their website and through Google search. For so long I've been trying to volunteer with the United Nations but I've not had an opportunity yet. Their pay is usually in USD I think, and converted to Naira, it is quite a good sum. I sure know it's highly competitive to get a job with UN or its sub offices. you may be assigned to any work station and any country. They'd provide you necessary stuff to make you comfortable in your work station especially outside your home country, and usually, security is attached to you.
Internship at the UN is unpaid, Volunteering comes with some financial support but it's not mandatory, it's for mobilization to wherever you're posted, language and communication skills is highly appreciated and an experience and a volunteer of someone who's been involved in the public administration before might not necessarily be political office.

Op don't be deceived it's not always enjoyment, the UN is not a Nigerian political office, There's real danger in working for the UN but if you're dedicated you'll look past that. Terror groups anarchists are known to attack, maim, kidnap UN workers. I'm speaking because I've worked with the UN before.

See the reason why Nigerians aren't regarded at the international sphere.

While such jobs may only go to those who are qualified, such also have to be those with long legs and big ears. I mean guys with relatives and guarantors in high places... Maybe a requirement like: Candidate must provide two guarantors who MUST be NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES or its equivalent... Where common man wan see dat kain thing?

They COULD also come with some funny requirements like Candidate must provide a PASSPORT that has been stamped in 2 different countries... Blablabla.

Na just my wild imagination at work o!
Correct! There's this subtle corruption and nepotism in the UN but as long as they get the job done no problems.

I wanted to provide my input based on firsthand information I have as a UN staff for several years. However, I see a lot of misleading comments on this thread which made me weary in providing my input as I do not want my accurate analysis diluted in a crowd of several posts which are either half-truths or not entirely true.

To enjoy my most craved anonymousity, I have used my alternate monicker to create a thread which answers all your questions about working with the UN.

well, i provide the phone numbers perhaps you may like to be more friendly with me so that you can call/text me say, hello priest Jesmion, how may i help you? ... I would tell you, this is my account number: firstbank: 3035765634 you can help me, and God will bless you, but let me know your name or phone number so that i can thank God for you for any amount you afford me.
when you are offering any amount into this account: firstbank nigeria plc, 3035765634 do not tell anyone the amount you want to give to avoid them telling you it's too small or too big! For that, they will cause you to go against your decision!
Thanks

Do they advertise job openings? Seems majority of job openings, like working in the Secretariat, are foreign based.
How do you see the openings to even apply?
