Rafale cannot be compared with JF-17
Thunder according to retired Air Vice Marshal
Shaheryar Ehsan

Written by Shaheryar Ehsan

A former Air Vice Marshal revealed that the Rafale could be compared to the F-16 but it has no one-on-one comparison with the JF-17 Thunder. The revelation comes on the heels of the announcement that Pakistan is entering mass production of the most advanced JF-17 Thunder Block III which has the KLJ-7A AESA radar which can track 15 targets and engage 4 targets simultaneously along with a helmet-mounted display (HMD) and possibly an internal infrared search and tracking (IRST) system.

The debate has intensified after India got the Rafale jets from France recently. However, according to AVM (retd) Shahzad Chaudhry, the real game-changer in the region will be the J-20 stealth fighter. As per his analysis, the only other jet which is capable to go toe-to-toe with the J-20 is the F-35. Any country in the subcontinent who gets either of these first would be able to get air superiority.

In a statement, he said:

For the airspace that we have to defend, F-16s, JF-17s and other platforms emerge in an integrated shape as a formidable force and it was demonstrated in February 2019

The AVM also said that the induction of JF-17 Block II and the mass production of Block III was a significant advancement in the country’s air defence arsenal.

Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador also commented that Pakistan had become self-sufficient in developing JF-17 Thunder:

Pakistan has become self-sufficient in developing JF-17 Thunder and an advance fighter aircraft producing country in the world. JF-17 Thunder has finally become the backbone of Pakistan’s defence. Pakistan and China’s close collaboration will bring more success in the future.

NASS TEAM IN USA TO ASSESS PROGRESS OF WORK ON NAF A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT

As part of their oversight functions, the National Assembly (NASS) Joint Committee on Defence and Air Force are currently in the United States of America (USA) on inspection tour of Embraer Defence Security Incorporated (EDSI), manufacturers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. Specifically, members of the joint committee are in the USA to assess the status and progress of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. On arrival at EDSI yesterday, 27 May 2021, the NASS team led by Senator Michael Nnachi, was briefed on the progress of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano programme and the scheduled date of delivery.

While briefing the NASS team, Colonel Authur Ford of the United States Air Force Fighters and Advance Aircraft Directorate stated that 10 out of the 12 aircraft were ready for delivery while 2 were undergoing modification and integration to NAF specific operational configuration. He went on to state that 6 of the aircraft are scheduled to arrive in Nigeria in July 2021 while the remaining 6 will be delivered before the end of October 2021. The NASS team was assured that the aircraft, expected to play critical roles in the fight against insurgency and criminality, would be delivered as planned.

Responding, Senator Michael Nnachi commended EDSI for the quality of work on the NAF A-29 Super Tucano. He however queried the long duration of time from the date of full payment to expected date of delivery, which he estimated to be between 3 to 4 years. In response, the Col Ford informed the team that the long duration was due to the challenges of configuring the aircraft to fit NAF’s required specifications.

The visiting team which also included Honourables Babajimi Benson, Shehu Koko, Abubakar Maki and Honourable Abass Adigun were received on arrival at Jacksonville, Florida by the Nigerian Defence Attaché to the USA, Air Commodore Jibrin Usman, the Lead Foreign Liaison Officer on the A-29, Air Vice Marshal Sule Lawal and senior management staff EDSI.

A must watch

Very informative documentary..."modern day combat is like an orchestra". "When you start a war you cannot control the events". And one lesson for Nigeria from one of the experts "you either co-exist or you don't exist at all".

And I'll add for the current administration in Nigeria dialogue with society and the elders of the land for a new workable constitution for justice and while you invest in modern arms to annihilate criminal groups also seek ways to douse the tension and bring healing to the land which will reduce the overstretch of the military and stop the opening of new fronts of war because in reality you can't kill everybody.

War is bad. May peace come to our world.

Nigeria's brand new 4.5 generation JF-17 THUNDER multi-role fighter Jet. It has extended SOW, first-look-first-kill capability and capability to launch a nuclear armed missile warhead.

Today the NAF is sub-saharan Africa's most advanced, capable, active and experienced Air Force both in training, combat and platforms.
Hope ur nt ssbn

To date, no Chinese made APC has been able to withstand an alshabaab IED blast from the underbelly without causing casualties.

This happened some time back. 3 injured, zero casualties, so I guess SA wins on this one.
