if you combine your MBBS with a degree in health economics you instantly become a hot cake in the north where they need researchers, M&E professionals etc to handle grant funded research...in the end your MBBS is not entirely useless in Nigeria unless you bought the degree!

I have read some arguments on these thread. Mbbs is one of the best courses one can study here in Nigeria... You might be out of job for a short while but it won't last long. Doctors are always in demand. If you are really good, you might consult for some private clinics which would bring in extra income... I agree too that the pay for most doctors here in Nigeria is not very encouraging, but if you add a little bit of creativity to your medical practice, you would do definitely fine. Generally, the doctors are doing better than their programming peers here in Nigeria. Also, in Western countries like U.S.A, Canada, Europe, U.K, Doctors still earn better than programmers with slight exceptions though.
I have a friend too who is a programmer, he codes in react Js. He is doing excellently well too. He told me he gets his jobs from foreign I.T firms online. He is very good in the stuff though and he earns pretty high because dude lives large. He even has few apps on play store that he gets paid per download from.
So from my understanding, it really depends on how good you are, weather as a doctor or programmer. But generally, Doctors are better off than programmers. But which ever you choose please plan and Japa, because naija don cast. My friend was to Japa in 2020 to turkey but Covid spoilt his plans. He still has the plans though.

Don't mind that one, we're in faceless forum where anybody claims anything..The basic salary of a resident doctor that's starting Job today is 220K plus their allowances, it's 312K..He even said his mother is almost a consultant, funny enough...

Medicine is not a bad course neither is it a useless course but Nigeria has rendered the profession hopeless. Like I said government has stopped paying housemanship doctors. As of 2005, a housemanship doctor could afford to buy a car and build a house. Salaries then when converted to dollars were around 2000 USD but now you have resident doctors earning 400 USD and consultants earning 1000 to 1200 USD. A lot of people talk about private practice but there's hardly any money there now. If you think I am lying, you can make research with private hospitals. People don't have money to treat themselves so they prefer to go to quacks and chemists except you have the resources to set up a practice in high brow areas like ikoyi or lekki.

Most doctors in other states arent even paid. Abia state has been owning doctors for around 2 years now. Programming only pays in Nigeria because of the opportunity to tap into the global economy. Working for Nigerian companies is horrible but even the salaries at Nigerian companies are much higher than what doctors earn.

Medicine pays if you can relocate. It's not easy for a programmer in the USA to match a doctor's salary. Even senior developers at FAANG companies do not make up to what doctors make at all.

Oga shut up, Your mother is NOT a medical doctor, A resident doctor starting salary is 220k plus their allowances, it's 312k..Maybe she's a Nurse because some of them still pose as a Doctor..My mum sef na pilot, she dey go USA everyday go buy pure water, rubbish.

It's 4,500ghs equivalent to 350 thousand naira for full stack development. But in Nigeria to learn full stack will cost about 1m naira.. The good thing here is once you finish the 6 months course they will fix you up for internship with other company.. If you can afford it fine,it's Worth it..
