"This country is no longer safe. The only person safe in this country is President Muhammadu Buhari and the only reason is that he understands that the country is not safe and so therefore has isolated himself."

"My fellow Nigerians nothing is working in this country. The security architecture of this country has fallen. We don't know our left, we don't know our right. We don't know where we are going as a people," he said in the 28 seconds video.

To paraphrase a wise man: "For the nation to survive [and thrive], the tribe must die."

In the year 2021, sad that this aphorism still needs to be cited.
"When people have tried everything and have discovered that nothing works, they will tend to revert to what they know best—which will often be the tribe, the totem, or the taboo."

First, human tribes are tribalistic, favoring Us over Them. Second, tribes have genuine disagreements about how societies should be organized, emphasizing, to different extents, the rights of individuals versus the greater good of the group. Tribal values also differ along other dimensions, such as the role of honor in prescribing responses to threats. Third, tribes have distinctive moral commitments, typically religious ones, whereby moral authority is vested in local individuals, texts, traditions, and deities that other groups don’t recognize as authoritative. Fourth, tribes, like the individuals within them, are prone to biased fairness, allowing group-level self-interest to distort their sense of justice. Fifth, tribal beliefs are easily biased. Biased beliefs arise from simple self-interest, but also from more complex social dynamics. Once a belief becomes a cultural identity badge, it can perpetuate itself, even as it undermines the tribe’s interests. Finally, the way we process information about social events can cause us to underestimate the harm we cause others, leading to the escalation of conflict.

The source added that it’s good for members of the public to know that those killed were three in number and not one as being speculated.

Investigation by Vanguard revealed that three persons were killed on Monday night, by suspected assassins including a youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Awonmama, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state, Kenneth Amukaamara.

A family source to one of the victims who craved anonymity disclosed this to Vanguard in Owerri.

He pleaded with the security agencies to help in uncovering the perpetrators of the wicked act. The source added that it’s good for members of the public to know that those killed were three in number and not one as being speculated.

According to him, “We lost three persons in the family, Kenneth Amukaamara, a youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oru East local government area, Eugene Anyia Amukaamara and Adaeze Anyia Amukaamara. The matter is that they were murdered and we cannot say those who carried out this wicked act.

“Four houses burnt including two cars. However, it is the duty of the security agencies to find those responsible. This is what I can say, for now, the security agencies will need to unravel those behind it.”

“We are pleading that the security agencies will be fast enough to bring those behind this act to face the law. This is wicked and it is not acceptable by anybody.” he said.

When contacted by Vanguard, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana, asked for more time to make inquiries on the incident.

Those Plotting Nigeria’s Destruction Will Have Shock Of Their Lives – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday issued a stern warning to those plotting to destroy Nigeria, saying they will soon receive the shock of their lives.

Speaking after he received a briefing from Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, on series of attacks on facilities of the electoral body around the country, President Buhari said the Federal Government has given the perpetrators enough time.

“I receive daily security reports on the attacks, and it is very clear that those behind them want this administration to fail,” the President was quoted as saying via a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.

“Insecurity in Nigeria is now mentioned all over the world. All the people who want power, whoever they are, you wonder what they really want. Whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives. We’ve given them enough time.”

While recalling that hat he visited all the 36 states of the country before the 2019 general elections, Buhari said: “Majority of the people believed me, and the election proved it.”

He promised to continue leading the country in accordance with constitutional provisions, adding that those misbehaving in certain parts of the country were obviously too young to know the travails and loss of lives that attended the Nigerian Civil War.

He added, “Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand. We are going to be very hard sooner than later.”

The President said the Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police have been changed, “and we will demand security from them.”

On the dangers posed to future elections by the burning of INEC facilities, President Buhari said he would give the electoral commission all it needed to operate, “so that no one would say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We’ll meet all INEC’s demands.”

INTERNAL SECURITY: AFRICAN BAR ASSOCIATION PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR MILITARY OPERATIONS

The African Bar Association (ABA), have thrown its weight behind the various internal security operations being conducted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), aimed at restoring peace and normalcy across troubled parts of the country.

The ABA President, Mr Hannibal Uwaifo made the disclosure today, when he led some executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja.

The ABA President maintained that the association is in full support of AFN operations, adding that the association will be constructive in scrutinizing and criticising the operational activities of the AFN, rather than indicating the media with undeserved statements that denigrate the Armed Forces while discharging its legitimate duties.

Mr Hannibal Uwaifo who highlighted the activities of ABA since its establishment, noted that the association has continued to promote and ensure peace, stability and democratic governance in Africa, while mediating on conflicts and disputes within the region.
He commended the Armed Forces African Bar Association (AFABA) for being the flagship of ABA's activities.

He noted that the AFABA, which oversees the affairs of military lawyers in Africa have recorded tremendous successes, while its members exhibit discipline and diligence during ABA seminars and conferences.

On the operational activities being conducted by troops in the various theatres, the ABA President averred that the Association is indeed proud of the AFN, just as he noted that the fight against insurgency and banditry have not been completely won.

The ABA President intimated the CDS of the Association's intent to partner with the DHQ to co-host a military law conference in Abuja. The proposed conference according to him, will work out modalities for formulation of privacy laws and law regime in order to ensure security of military data in accordance with international privacy laws.

Mr Uwaifo used the opportunity of the visit to extend his condolences to the AFN on the unfortunate air MISHAP that claimed the lives of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and ten other personnel, describing it as very painful.

The CDS, Gen Irabor thanked the leadership of ABA for the collaborative efforts in seeking to project the operational successes of the AFN. Public understanding of the pains and sacrifices of the AFN, the CDS noted would to a large extent boost the morale of troops in surmounting the security threats across the country. The CDS added that the gesture by the ABA would add to the numerous voices galvanizing support for the AFN with a view to countering negative narratives and misinterpretation of military operations.

The Defence Chief, while commending the ABA for promoting human rights, peace and stability within the African continent, assured that the AFN would continue to conduct its counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations within stipulated rules of engagement, as well as guide against human rights abuses. The CDS also pledged DHQ readiness to partner with ABA in the proposed Military Law Conference.

In the armed services this week the new Army Chief Major General Yahaya (COAS) is making the rounds to both the NAF HQ and NN HQ.

I actually thought Buhari in his nepotistic style in choosing an army chief over looking Major General Ahanotu would go for Major General Yusuf who also has good combat credentials.

Well there you have it a sitting president is granted by the present constitution the prerogative of choosing the service chiefs.

If you genuinely mean well for Nigeria instead of stoking the flames divert that energy into setting a fertile ground for winning in 2023 then gear up and vote in a nationalistic leader.

We can only hail and support the new COAS

ISWAP TERRORISTS DECIMATED IN DAMBOA, ABANDONED SUICIDE MISSION

Nigerian Army troops operating as part of Operation Hadin Kai in conjunction with Air Component of the Operation have today Wednesday 2 June 2021 inflicted heavy casualty on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists group who launched a futile attack on Damboa LGA of Borno State. The terrorists attacked the town in multiple waves with Armoured Personnel Carriers and 12 Gun Trucks all mounted with Anti Aircraft Guns, as well as Locally Fabricated Armoured-plated Vehicles loaded with explosives and motorcycles.

The gallant troops successfully defeated the attack, destroyed the locally fabricated armoured-plated vehicles and neutralised over 50 ISWAP terrorists forcing the survivors to run in disarray under heavy gun fire from the resilient troops and Nigerian Air Force attack platforms. The so-called suicide bombers had to abandon their vehicles primed with explosives as they could not withstand the overwhelming fire power from the highly motivated troops. Several weapons and ammunitions were recovered from the depleted terrorists.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya congratulated the troops including the Air Component for this great achievement. The COAS restated the commitment of the Nigerian Army under his leadership to ending terrorism and other violent crimes in the North East and the rest of the country. He further enjoined the troops to sustain the ongoing offensive under Operation Tura Takaibango until this noble goal is attained.
