Hello Nairaland people, I am in a serious dilemma, I am a legally married woman who is based in Nigeria and married to a Nigerian student in Canada, I have been unable to reach him for several months now, no communication whatsoever, his family members are not doing anything regarding the situation on ground, I am really worried on what could be the situation of things over there, he will be done with school in less than 4months. Please what could be wrong? He has promised to call for me soon, so I am surprised I cant reach him for this long. I really want to see my husband. This situation at hand as made me depressed and I have been unable to function. What do I do? Please help!

His family members knows about his whereabouts but don’t want to tell you. Because abroad is like a new beginning for people that gets there. You start afresh once you are there. Also you are desperate because you want to jakpa from Naija not because of anything and it’s paining you he didn’t bother to reach you. If you have a child for him you still have a connection even if he remarries but if not OYO is your case

How will you say I am desperate? I haven’t been in communication with my husband for several months, worried and wondering what it’s going on? At least someone will tell me what the problem is that’s why I came on Nairaland to get information. What do you suggest I do? Cause I am confused, I am legally married to this man, at least someone should be able to brief me on what’s is going on? I am just wondering how possible to be legally married in Nigeria and also in Canada

Take me as your sister, at least if I am aware I would know what is going on, not when I am left in a dark. This is not relationship, this is marriage, at least I would be aware of what the issue is and be carried along

My sister I take you as my sister that is why I am telling you the harsh truth. Like I said even if you are legally married to him but with no child he will feel no connection with you anymore. Also he and his family or brother especially would have had a discussion like this. And they or most especially a male figure would have convinced him to move on. Like I said once people don jakpa go abroad it’s a fresh start. Old things have passed away. You start a new education, aquire new certificates that is in line with the country as Nigerian certificates aren’t recognized abroad.

But if you want to track his thoughts and movements, open a new Male Facebook account, put your Facebook location as one staying in Chicago or Texas, put a Texas high school, look for someone who don stay abroad and use his picture as your dp. add some mutual friends of his and his family, put a good profile then send them a request and be chatting them up. Then you tell them you are a old friend of his in school, and that you are in the United States, but lost his contact. You can chat up older families of his or younger sisters of his because Naija women like anything abroad.

The biggest point givers are work experience, education and IELTS.

Get work experience, get a masters degree or study hard for the IELST, the exam is very very easy, lots of Nigerians do no like taking the exam, I have done the exam twice and they were really simple.

Also even if your point isn’t up to the cut off, you can still get a provincial nomination if your skills are in demand in certain provinces. The province nomination will boost you up 700 points.

If all these fails, you may want to consider the education route, apply for a study permit instead.

I think your husband has moved on. When I was in school, I had a mate who was newly wed, he had a daughter just few weeks before he left naija. He met a Chinese chick and they moved in together, after school he went back home to divorce his wife. He’s married to the Chinese chick now.

Your man isn’t dead, if he was his family would have told you. He’s most likely moved on. For him to ghost you tho, I hope he hasn’t heard anything bad about you? Hope you haven’t been busy with another man since he left the country?

Anyways, I hope you’ve heard from him now. All the best. Cheers.

The best way to boost your point.. I will advise to do some professional course that will earn u certificate. You can use the certificate as second degree.. this will boost your point.
Better still go to YouTube and watch videos of immigrants who left Nigeria to Canada through express entry, this will help you gather more information without paying anyone

Get multiple Masters degree, that would increase your CRS. Acquire skills and certifications and that would set you aright in getting a PN (provincial nomination). Time is not on your side as you are already in your 30s, so you might want to do all of these before you turn 35. However, if your partner is skilled, you can make her the primary applicant, that would earn you more point. If you have a natural flare for languages, learn french and take TEF, that would earn you some points. Good luck!

I'm glad for your input. Unlike me, I'm an HND graduate in urban and regional planning, just got employed by LASG as a Higher technical officer. Do you think it's advisable to run a conversion program from HND to B.tech or I should go on with IELTS prior to appying to Canada for a skilled migrant visa?

I stand to be corrected.
The Canadian rating system does not discriminate against HND. Already your ND would earn you points, coupled with your HND. But you know, the competition is stiff, so you can do a PGD and an MSc subsequently to boost your chances. Thus, you would do credential evaluation for your HND and MSc (that would cost you double the price to the tune of 164k). What's your area of specialty?

Thank you for your swift response. I am presently working as a Town Planner (Higher Technical Officer) I intend to do the conversion for the sake of having a B.Tech due to the HND discrimination and go for a Masters's afterward. Hopefully, I would have more job experience after the completion of the two programs.

I'm still looking forward to your insight about this. I am 31 years old.

If your partner has a BSc or an MSc, she can file in as the primary applicant. That way, you may not need to do the conversation but focus on acquiring skills that are in demand at Canada. Time is of the essence. You are already 31 and by the time you clock 35, you will lose certain points annually due to this age factor. Note that your CRS scores dips lower as you advance in age and by the time you clock 35, your surest bet would be PN or bagging an MSc/PhD and certifications to fill in the dip created by the age ish.

BTW French isn't hard. It's a pretty cheap language. I'd say the only goofy thing about it is pronouncing certain things (and it's not so clear until you have more time with it), but it's still not a major challenge. You can learn a lot in a few months. Bon chance.

ETA: This guy has great content on the language.
