The people we refer to as “leaders” in Nigeria are not up to 25,000 in number. That’s less than 1/10000th.........and we are sitting around blaming “leaders”!

Yes I blame leaders 150%. Do u know 1 influencer can command 1million people with the right statements and strategy?

Don’t u know what leadership is about?? U think it’s about leading ur family members and office staffs?? U are leading ur local government, ur state, region and the country as a leader.

Why Nigeria’s leadership has failed over the years is because we do not lead by example. That is the key to leadership. U must show ur followers by actions because that is what they will copy not ur words.

The government if sensible can direct the course if this country with the snap of their fingers. I will give u an example.

When Buhari was messing up and then was sick and when for treatment and osinbajo took over for some months, the direction of the country changed immediately by just few actions taken by the acting president. That is the power of good leadership.

Sadly we don’t understand power of political leadership in this country because it has been bastardized.

I tried explaining this issue to you in 2016. I predicted that the naira would go to 8000 in 10 years from 2016 (I may be off by some years), and a lot of you laughed at me. At that time, I suggested the firing of government workers and the increase of taxes on the rich and I was still mocked. As far back as 2012, I (my former profile) started complaining about US shale oil and its impact on global crude prices. I campaigned heavily for Buhari to win the 2015 election because GEJ refused to save money for the inevitable fall of oil prices.

Today, where we are, is completely expected. What we need to do now to get out of this rot is to massively increase the VAT, to increase taxation on cars whereby people with multiple cars pay much higher rates forcing them to sell their cars and preventing others from behaving as foolishly as them. same should occur for houses and even phones. Basically, the government needs to increase its tax to GDP ratio to about the global average which I believe is about 30 percent. That is we need to move from about 6 percent of GDP to 30 percent.

Revenue gotten from taxation MUST be used to directly reduce poverty. A good policy may be the provision of quality basic education with class teachers to student ratio being no greater than 1:30.
Other policies may include the mass recruitment of police and soldiers, and the building of low cost housing that would be leased out to the poor. A combination of these policies would lead to a stronger Naira, a more secure and equal country, and better infrastructure built with functional purpose.

We are our own enemies that is why we can't get anything right. The government needs to declare an all out war on Effizy.

Though I was barely a teenager in those days, I still remember newspapers dating to 1982.

In my first secondary school in 1983,i remember my mum everyday while going to work, ordering from the vendor "Times, Punch, Sketch, Tribune and Concord" and handing the vendor a one naira note. Each paper cost 20 kobo then.

Fast forward 1990 and a relative comes to Nigeria from the US and stays in my father's house. He complains Daily Times is now 2 Naira that when he was leaving, in 1984,it was 20k.

The biggest problem the country has faced in the last 40 years has been the wasted years of shagari, babangida and Abacha and it now includes Buhari's rule. Buhari ineptitude is a thorn to APC's flesh as many call him the "ill. ." word behind his back but need his massive and undeserved goodwill to win elections.

There won't be peace and progress for Nigeria as a country if they don't allow BIAFRA go, no amount of name changing can stop that.

I once said something like this before, that even if no Igbo man ever lead Nigeria, that the Yourba people must find a way to drag them into the mess when Nigeria finally becomes destroyed beyond redemption
See below ↓↓↓

Elderly advise.

Lol. Hold my glass fess, let me laugh heartily...

grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Drag you into what?

No Igbo man has ever been in Aso rock?

You must be a very young chap.

Please do a little research.

Igbos have always been with the party in power right from the word go.

Yorubas have always been in opposition right from the beginning.

An Igbo man was the first president of Nigeria.

That man y'all refer to as great Zik of Africa. He was the one who sold the South to the North.

Alex Ekwueme was the vice president to another Fulani man, Shehu Shagari a few years after the civil war.

Check the list of Senate presidents and deputy senate presidents since 1999 and you may just be shocked at how much the Igbos are well represented.

Don't stop there. Check the list of federal ministers, senators, federal house of reps members and tell me how you could honestly exempt your people from the dysfunctionality of Nigeria.

You are indeed a funny man.

I look at the list of names of all the freedom fighters, the civil rights activists etc that have left their footprints in the sands of time in Nigeria and I can't see a single Igbo man's name there. (Please correct me if I'm mistaken).

I shudder to think of the distorted history you are going to tell your own children, and they, theirs.

Even when Moses killed an Egyptian for an oppressed Israelite.
It was still an Israelite that threatened to expose him which made him flee into exile.
It still didn't change they are the oppressed children of the Most high and if they don't emback on their exodus, the oppressors will fall.

I am not opposing your right to self determination.

Please read the comment I responded to, to get a clear picture of my response.

The habit of trying to absolve Igbos from the destruction of Nigeria is silly.

The three major ethnicities are guilty of where Nigeria is today.

And not just the three major ethnic groups, all Nigerians. We must own up to our shortcomings and roles in bringing Nigeria to it's knees.

I was informed by a reliable source that our NEPA wires can't carry current for 24/7 that it will explode. That was far back 2002 , so no hope for steady light .

Reliable source?

Do you know there are areas in Nigeria where power supply is steady and their wires never explode.

Do you know that transmission lines (11kV, 33kV...) are always active 24/7/365 except on rear occasions. Have you ever hear say the wires explode? (Not transformers o)

There are substandard wires in the market for people that will patronize them, and there are good ones that meets international standard. It's a matter of choice.

I agree, Nigeria get problems but this Nepa wire theory no hold water.

Dear Sir/Ma,

Can you please tone down the generalization... It's strongly evident in your comment.

The fact that some do, doesn't mean we are all the same.

Besides, I am a student of history and if i may ask, did I hurl any insults at you? undecided

Sincerely judging from your comments on this section of the thread, I can succinctly deduce that you hold little or no true nationalist view and one would beg to know why you have strongly held on to this views giving the fact you could have done more to push for a better nation when it comes to being patriotic over the last few decades as a sexagenarian or perhaps a quinquagenarian that you are. Except you're only being pretentious under this moniker.

that was far back 2002 I heard that, 19 years after I haven't seen NEPA light last for more than 1 week on a stretch. Maybe the explodes was exaggerated by him but have lived my life since then till now yet to see a place that have light 1 year without a interruption. He was a NEPA official who is late now

My tone of message wasn't political in anyways, what I tried to draw attention to was, the system has been faulty ever since.

so there are no way of having the grade of wires that can carry 24/7 power?
I maintain that it is intentional.
Mikano generators can as well be Mai Kano.
There is a great electric generator interest in Nigeria, Perkins and John Holt.
As for nnpc, they are useless as the p in pneumonia.
The British were of the belief that in 500 years we can't figure out how to refine crude oil.
IGBOS divided the 500 by 100 during the civil war,it annoyed UK.
Why is the military going after boys in the creek who are refining Diesel?
Ask yourself, are these boys not supposed to be celebrated?
Electricity problems in Nigeria is beyond presidents, refining crude is beyond Nigeria too and from my observation these are happening because some set of people are benefiting so much from the inadequacies. Watch "Deep State(seasonal 2 depicts Nigeria in a nutshell)" its a seasonal movie, while watching do it as if you are a student in search of vital information to aid in report writing.

I got the message in your post, there's nothing political about it. Even if your tone is political, the fact still remain that there is something fundamentally wrong with this Nation.

My talk about the wire exploding was born out of personal knowledge in that line, nothing attached except for clarity.

When we tell people that there is no hope for this nation they think we are joking. the guys that won the war have been playing roller-coaster game with generations of Nigerians. it will still remain so in another 50yrs. This nation was never designed to develop at least not with northerners at the helm of affairs of this nation. They are instruments used to ensure that this nation remains a retrogressive third world shithole believe me. Are we any better today than when those headlines where published? Those who can should abandon this sinking ship asap.

What about GEJ years? Abi something is wrong with your thinking faculty? Biased dimwit.

There was fairly good economic growth during those years despite the huge corruption going on. Between 1999 - 2013, economic growth averaged 6% yearly.

If Buhari simply maintained those policies he met, the country's economic growth rate would hover between 4-5% yearly. Through out Buhari's tenure, it has not hit 2% in any year. Why?

It is down to his forex control policies.

Let me explain. Imagine $1bn was flowing I to the economy every month and the exchange rate is N200 to a dollar. Then oil prices crashes and only $500m is now coming in monthly, will the exchange rate remain the same or you'll pay more for dollars?

Buhari said it must remain the same. The docile CBN governor refuses to tell off the president. Lamido Sanusi bluntly told the president that this policy hasn't worked in any country in the world. Buhari no dey hear word.
