Hi guys, I have been thinking of leaving my present job to learning a skill and seeing how I will try to establish myself. Is it wise to leave a job and learn a skill at the present state of Nigeria. Note : The salary of my present job is quite small . Pls I need advice on what to do. 3 Likes |

Acquiring a new skill set is great, but more important than this, is acquiring the right mindset. For your mindset is the lens through which you see the world. Skill acquisition with the mentality of an employee is simply empowerment for servitude. Congratulations to you on your Job. I'd suggest you take weekends to learn and master your craft if you can't learn on weekdays. Most importanty you'd need to have emergency funds stashed up pending the duration of your new craft. you cannot successfully learn a skill on an empty stomach, I wish you all the very best in your endeavours. In Nigeria, graduates who are worthy both in character and in learning are roaming all over the streets with no jobs, but hoodlums, illiterates, political thugs, mentally unstable people who were used to cause unrest during the election time are recruited into the police force by politicians. Make I advice you, go apply for teaching work, from then you go dy go learn your work immediately after school.. On Saturdays, you go go in the morning n when school dy on holidays too Try as much as possible to get sowing machine for house before you quite your current job, it will make you lean faster. Life as an apprentice is not easy ooo especially if you don't have any one to support you with pocket money 24 Likes 2 Shares |

I'll suggest you do your job as usual and enroll as a weekend apprentice because somehow you'll have to feed and take care of yourself while learning. But if your job is a 6/7 kind I'll suggest you port to another skill. If you have support systems, ie, your siblings, spouse, parents who can cater for your needs then you can trash my opinion. |

Karleb:I'm just concerned that what if this job is her only source of survival. Even if she's serious at a point, bills and hunger will set in then she'll have no other option than to quit the skill acquisition and find a way to fix herself then she has obviously lost from both sides. 3 Likes |

I left my job since after the lockdown. I haven't had any job till now. I am not dead. It's not been easy but at the same time it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I have learnt a lot this period. I have had time to sharpen my skills. I have had time to establish more connects, travel, and it's paying off gradually. And Very soon e go stew for me. Most jobs nowadays are modern day prison yard. They deprive you of your time and energy and take away your ability to pursue your dreams. If the job isn't rewarding or in line with your dreams, please quit it, you won't die. If me wey Papa and mama no dey give me food again never die, u no go die. Just know this! 19 Likes |
