This is a sad but common sight in the USA. Always leaves me wondering if there can ever be a solution to homelessness.

The single picture shows a stark comparison. On the left side of the boardwalk are homeless encampment, on the other side are expensive flats

What could be the cause?

Thought everything is figured out and everyone taken care of over there?

For example cancer, homelessness, hunger, healthcare.

It’s just that what we’ve solved are also big ones like landing and invading countries quickly, we have a helicopter flying on Mars, we have a spaceship that has traveled outside of our solar system, our flag is flying on the moon, etc

I can imagine, and I know the feelings too. But what's sad is that no one actually cares about the other end.

It's because some lost it, others had one point in their life made some bad decisions or some are either stupid or lazy.
Even in rich Arab countries, you'd see beggars and homeless pple.

As our Naija hard reach, theres still space for everyone to live under a roof but sometimes, some peeps just prefer the homeless and begging way..

I was told there's welfare where people present cards and take food.

1. California has a lot of homeless compared to other parts of the US. This is because of how the state treats homeless, and the weather.

2. A substantial segment of homeless are people who aren't getting the mental health treatment they need.

3. American culture is quite individualist, and that contributes to these problems in a major way.

4. A substantial portion of homeless are victims of human trafficking.

5. Many young homeless are fleeing abuse or have been forced from their homes for being g4y.

6. Many homeless are drug abusers due to the trauma of being homeless. I won't get into the details, but their lives are horrible. This makes it even more difficult to get out of that situation.

7. A substantial portion of homeless, especially in California, are illegal immigrants.

That said, America does have a social safety net for housing, food, and healthcare. It's just not as good as Canada or the UK.

I know they do exist, but I'd be satisfied if they could record a 100%. Where there will be a truly balanced society.

Yes, there’s hunger. Yes, we have a social system like section 8 and welfare. Not all qualify especially if you’re not a woman and a child.

I’ve never been to the Middle East. I’ll be checking that off early next year.

I love being a woman

They are in Canada too. Government provides shelter for them but many prefer to be on the streets. They are lazy, entitled, mentally ill, drug addicts, had bad marriages , committed crimes or made bad financial decisions in the past.

Let’s say I agree with you, and I do on most causes you listed especially mental illness, but can’t the almighty USA find a solution?

Most of these people contributed to the development of the USA at some point and deserve the government to offer a solution.

The problem is mostly ignorance,refusing to work,mental illness and drugs.Every poor American is automatically eligible to get from government food stamps,section 8 vouchers,low income housing as low as less than $200 a month.Free medical care (Medicaid for young/Medicare for old) .Pell grants,student loans and scholarships to go to any school you want.There are food banks/pantry in every town in America and in almost every black church where you walk in,collect any food you want and they will thank you for coming because food banks throw away tons of food weekly across the country.From Salvation Army to many NGOs assisted by government homeless shelters are ran everywhere.The one in downtown Minneapolis, they provide them with food,shower,socks TV and blankets etc .There are many town in America offering like Natchez Mississippi etc offering cash relocation bonus for house down payment if you want to relocate there.The only problem I see with US government is that they cannot force you to take advantage of the numerous benefits available and nobody will do here unlike Nigeria.It’s just up to you to find it and figure it out
