Buhari sperm swallower, failed economic policies of your cow Lord caused it . Why do you think he takes cement production to Ghana instead of your shithole Nigeria. Currency risk(google it) is one of the major reasons, than the lame excuse of refineries.

Why Twitter, Instagram, Facebook they should also tell Google to come and register in Nigeria. FG should not lift hands where they cannot reach

The world has gone far beyond this. Yes, Twitter would like to connect with the large number of enterprising youths in Nigeria but of what use is one administration to them? Soldier go, soldier comes, Twitter is still there? You forgot that Twitter completely took down the account of a sitting US President. How did that affect their business? Where is that account now? They just banned it for another 2 years. You may have forgotten that a section of the house has already asked Nigerians to continue to use Twitter.

Facebook rubbed salt on the injury when they deleted the same tweet government complained about. Please is FB not scared of Nigeria? And why has the government not banned FB?

In my opinion, what we have just done is cheap publicity for Twitter. When government lifts the ban you will see how many people will jump to have accounts, those that did nt even think of opening Twitter before now.

Don't mind that guy. People are still using Twitter. The internet is bigger than an individual

And to his point of correction, Nigeria does not have the highest purchasing power in Africa.

It means they will go and meet CAC and be registered, then it means they will be taxable right?

Lmao...

Very soon also, Google would have to be registered too and Yahoo.

Why starting what they can't finish?
All these are collateral damage to cover up the goof in the first place.
They never had Facebook and the rest in mind, but they had to extend it to them now in order for the action to look justifiable.

All this because you want to avenge the President whose tweet of terror was deleted?

What element of terror was in buhari tweet

Why is someone in this thread trying to compare the GDP of an entire COUNTRY with that of a COMPANY, and not even a conglomerate, but one that deals in a single industry (social media)?

And again, Nigeria is not even in Twitter's top 20 markets:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/242606/number-of-active-twitter-users-in-selected-countries/

Why exactly does Twitter need Nigeria?

These social media taxes are a bit complex but I know it could be resolved if all countries reach a consensus. Many countries have been asking the same question. I can collect data in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and use the data to make money in South Africa, Namibia, and Tanzania. If Twitter collects $1m for an advert from a company in America but the advert is targeted towards Indian people, some people believe Indian Govt should have a little tax cut in the profit. Another issue is that, all the users that sign up already given a license to social media platforms to use their data and show any adverts on their pages.

The non-negotiable one which I believe many of them are already doing is when they earn from Nigeria. That is if they place adverts for Nigerians/Nigerian companies and we pay them. They have to pay us some taxes. Another question is if they are paying more taxes of any form to Nigerian Govt, will our Govt also be responsible enough to help them during a crisis. Like helping during bankruptcy, bailout during a recession, pandemic, or natural disasters. The American Govt collecting the chunk of their taxes does those things for them during tough times.

Forget the politics and what you don't like about FG, it makes sense that they register.

There must be some form of regulations and accountability.
Freedom of speech is your right, also speech that breaks the law through incitements, spreading hate and division is illegal.

The argument of these social media companies is If anyone breaks the law, prosecute rather than blame us. It doesn't hold water again.

Regulations is to allow for control. We have read how Facebook and google have been fined for supporting electoral fraud and anti monopoly laws in those countries were they operate.

My fears are genuine however, that if the govt succeeds in this fight, they become more emboldened to misbehave and feel they can do and undo.

Biggest middle class in Africa and biggest economy in Africa, with an annual GDP of 1.16 TRILLION dollars per annum, calculated by PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).

Twitter, by comparison, earned 1.2 billion dollars last year.

That is chicken change for top Nigerian business conglomerates, not to mention the Nigerian govt.

Twitter is shiit compared to Nigeria.

You're clearly a dunce because you don't even understand what PPP - purchasing power parity; entails and you using it to make stupid claims as the dunce you are. You saw 1.16 trillion and your Illiteracy ejaculated.
PPP is a discounted technique that inflates the GDP of developing countries because it is subject to lower standards of living, lower income; cheaper labour, raw materials, etc. It is like putting the price of 3 bedroom flat in lagos at the same price of three bedroom flat in london. And this why nigeria's ppp looks high to you. Although i'm certain that the acute illiteracy in you will note make you understand.

What Nigeria makes annually is 400+ billion as measured by gdp. Of which 70%+ is from its oil. Not the ppp nonsense you're talking about

Nigeria is a large developing country, so it will have poor folks for many years still. If those platforms you listed refuse to comply with Nigerian law, they will be kicked out of the Nigerian market. Numerous other apps will take their place. The Indian - built platform, [kooo], is already making inroads to Nigeria following the Twitter ban.

It's not a matter of having "poor folks" it's a matter of being the poverty capital of the world.. don't you think we all should have a conscience instead of having the mentality that some people are meant to be poor
The duty of government is to put in place policies to alleviate poverty not intensify same.. I maintain that a threat to Twitter should first have been issued instead of jumping to ban them without taking the small Nigerian businesses into consideration.. Twitter would've come for reconciliation and negotiation if a threat had been issued.. do you know how much has been lost by businesses due to the hasty ban?
