The Professional E-Hailing Drivers and Private Owners Association (PEDPA) in Lagos on Tuesday said it had entered into a partnership with two indigenous App companies for its ride-sharing service.

Idris Shonuga, national president of PEDPA, told journalists in Lagos on Tuesday that it had partnered with Active Ride and My Cab App companies as replacements for Uber and Bolt.

“These indigenous App companies would work with the templates and provide drivers with a good welfare package for riders’ satisfaction.

“This will enable the union to protect the collective interests of the drivers as decisions can now be jointly taken and approved before it is binding on both parties,” PEDPA said.

The move came weeks after members of the drivers’ union embarked on industrial action to force Uber and Bolt to increase their fares.

Mr Shonuga said that both drivers and riders endured the shortcomings in the e-hailing industry without any mutual written agreement between the owners of the cars and the foreign app companies

“As against the 20 per cent commission by the team giant App companies, Active Ride is charging 15 per cent commission on each trip.

“And out of the 15 per cent, five per cent is dropped into the driver’s cooperative wallet and can be accessed for a quick fix.

“This means that with the 10 per cent commission taken by Active Ride, drivers can now earn more and even save.

“They can now have a good maintenance routine which in turn translates to better customer service delivery,” PEDPA said.

He said the new locally developed ride-sharing app would allow riders to be properly profiled as they would input their photographs at the point of registration which in turn will be displayed for riders to see.

“This will improve the safety and security of both riders and drivers,” he said.

Can they handle it?

Its not about ditching and shouting indigenous company

They should not cause hardship for Lagosians with lack of planning

To develop an app is very easy until you have to handle a lot of requests

Well, i wish the company well if its not a one man business

There are a million and one ride hailing apps... can you wrestle the price war discounts associated with a household name when it comes?

Dstv releasing step up promos everytime it seems a new competitor shows head is not because they love us, they are protecting their monopoly.

With their huge war chest, am afraid only tweaking Govt policies favouring indigenous companies can give them a good run.

Greatest news I have heard in a long time.

It's a shame that we have programmers and IT gurus but keep relying on external for the simplest apps.

Hopefully the new apps work. We had one in PH before Bolt came in. Was never able to successfully take one trip.

Apparently this looks good...but let's see how these local firms will fare. Competition is good. It will cause the foreign firms to sit up.

If not for politics Nigeria is the best home of intelligences and innovations but the government never want to create avenue for talent improvement and support only to trace yahoo boys and lock them up then negotiate with bandit and set up committee with billions for rehabilitation.

We should say no to any president above 60 because they have this analog patter of ruling.

Good move.

If the likes of piggyvest/kuda/quickteller work to near perfection, I see no reason why these indigenous apps won't work as well.

As a private car owner driving on those foreign platforms, I say this is a most welcome development.
For those expressing fear and mentioning DStv, your fears are unfounded, this is just an app, it doesn't require the same infrastructure that cable tv requires. The key things we've been demanding: a union, passenger profiling, reduced commission, competitive fares and a human faced customer service for drivers. They conveniently ignored.

From the write up I can understand that the drivers are only interested in Uber and Taxify increasing the transportation fares so that they will get more money.

We are always selfish and I am very sure that this will fail from ab initio because as they leave the platform of Über and Taxify, more drivers will definitely get onboard and I am 10000% sure that the so called local app can never compete with the established companies
