Where are all those fools and zombies that are happy every day here that the same hypocrite fulanis redrew the borders of Igboland and are forcing us to accept it? Have you seen that the fulanis are hypocrites? This fool doesn't want to accept British drawn international borders but wants us to accept his people's hypocritical locally drown borders that ceded Igbo people into other states. Wike of Rivers states must be the daftest and dumbest human ever to love. Long live the great Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for opening the eyes of Igbo zombies.

What did wike say? Borders doesn't mean u can't relate or even be related sometimes. Imo and abia was once imo. Same goes for many other places. Doesn't mean Niger will become part of Nigeria, Benin rep or Cameroon or any such thing.

See the crevice between Nigeria and Benin. And remember that the oil is not at the border between Niger and Benin.

Between Nigeria and Benin, who takes goods to every part of Niger? And it is passing through all the way to Lagos.

This is ordinary economics o.
Oil is in agadez region in the north west. We're looking to build rail up to maradi in the South Central.
It's easy to see that Niamey the capital is closer to Benin than Nigeria and more importantly, agadez is closer to Benin Republic than maradi.
It's geography not economics.
The economics aspect of it clearly shows in who has a more efficient port. I hope you know Benin Republic port is more efficient.

The railway line to Niger will serve little economic purpose.
Pipelines are a cheaper and more efficient way to transport oil. Buhari is building that rail line for other reasons not economic.

The oil in Nigeria is in Agadem (the part I cycled blue), not at the border between Benin and Niger. And we all know that the shortest distance between two points is always a straight line (mathematics).

Most people talking don't even know the detail. Amaechi has been saying this thing everyday, but people have made up their minds on what they want to hear.

Please study this thing, and forget the political noise for 2023. This is reality.

You make very valid points here. Two other factors could be the terrain + topography of the route, and the reach of the dreaded Islamic terror group(s) nearby.

Although true he said that, but I feel punch is emphasising the sensational part over the economic reason he provided which is a fair point.

Niger has no access to the sea and if Nigeria gets its act together infrastructurallyn, we will be the preferred route for Nigerien oil (and uranium). Imagine the attendant jobs and revenue that will accrue to Nigeria as a result of this. Not to speak of the geopolitical influence.

China is currently reviving the ancient silk road that connected East Asia and Southeast Asia with South Asia, Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and Southern Europe through road constructions, seaport development, railways etc. in central Asia countries, Pakistan, Iran and even Europe (read about it)

If Nigeria were to get her acts right we should be reviving the ancient trans-Sahara trate routes strategically building influence in the countries that currently occupy those routes (Timbuktu, Agades, Tripoli etc) non of these North African countries or middle eastern countries would have "nothing on us". But we are to busy fighting ourselves to see the potential in ourselves

I have no problem connecting Niger and Chad to Nigeria rail infrastructures, I think it's a good idea, but the first priority of a nation is its economic well-being, connecting Calabar to Lagos will link the industrialized South-West (Lagos and OgunState) with the commercial South East and the Oil producing South-South, thereby creating an industrial corridor of the South that can leverage those disparate industrial sectors.

I will suggest that the 17 states of the South work together and contribute the funds to build the rail infrastructure themselves because I don't see this government building any major infrastructure that will integrate the South.

Mtcheew. You're just arguing what you know nothing about. Niamey is close to Benin Republic. So your analogy is meaningless. The point to note there is the road from agadez to Niamey is good same with from Niamey to Cotonou.
From Agadez to Cotonou is shorter than from Agadez to Lagos. End of story

I think many people do not know the geopolitical balance of this project.

Benin republic saw a loophole to capture all the trade routes and corner all the transportation architecture of Niger.

The uranium and oil fields of Niger are far closer to Nigeria's seaports than Benin. And Mardi is the second-largest city in Niger and central to distribution to Niger.

It will be foolish not to lobby and offer a better proposal to Niger to get more control of their transport needs by accessing Nigeria's seaports which mean more businesses for Nigeria.

And by the way, the 3billion dollar eastern railway is already ongoing which starts from Port Harcourt and a deep Bonny seaport is part of the deal.

The government has surely failed in a lot of areas but with regards to infrastructure, I think we can look with an objective lens.

Clueless & Incompetent

Stop trying to defend nonsense....if FG want to create an economic bilateral relationship with Niger then the expenses to create the locomotives for such regards should be made bilateral and not put the burden on the unsuspecting citizens of Nigeria.
Do you know how far half of that amount can do to our ailing Medical Sector or Electricity Generation sector? SMH @how you are trying to defend incompetence.

That's not valid in any form unless the Niger FG also shares part of the costs, we citizens are paying taxes unjustly because of some personal sentiments...very lame and useless excuse.

Exactly my grouse with all the hardship and after completing they'll keep looting the proceeds if there'll be any though..because I don't see how Nigeria will gain from such even Benin Republic as industrious as they are gain more from us because of the differentials in population!

A young visionary leader will not be a bigot because good and exemplary leadership looks out for a bigger picture and think out of the box.

All this would be put in the right perspective by young visionary leaders that will create strong institutions and better policies rather than allow absolute power to corrupt individuals absolutely!

Your question is needless...leaders (senate & house of reps) are saddled with the responsibilities to create good policies to create strong structures so it's not a question of some citizens not wanting it.
Howbeit as regards your notion of me been a kinsman ill say yes I'm a kinsman in the writing profession lineage with competent clout!
So

We need young visionary leaders.

I agree with you to some extent. But Nigeria has already secured a 3billion dollar financing for the eastern railway project which starts from Port Harcourt and will pass through many eastern cities. A deep Bonny seaport is part of the deal.

The same CECC company that built Lagos Ibadan project is already working on the eastern rail project.

The road block is the east west railway project that will link lagos to calabar, it will pass through west to south south states and port harcourt then ends in Calabar.

I think the senate has not given the go-ahead for the loan financing.
