Even Ariaria metropolis is more than 1.2 million let alone Aba City.

Aba City isn't less than 2.5 to 3 million as at 2020

Did you ask your self when was that census conducted by the oyibo or
You believed what one European just sat down and estimated as truth but you will not believe census conducted by your own country.
What most people commenting here failed to put into consideration or know but chose to ignore is that Kano city is not the same as Kano state, Kaduna is not the same as kaduna state.
Whether you agree with me or not, the population of the north is more the less rural. That is to say majority of the northen population are rural dwellers.
Compare with the south which population concentration is mostly town base. And the reasons for this are not far fetched: land and occupation type: For instance, there are numerous researches which clearly show that one of the most dense occupied place in Africa is the south eastern Nigeria. But this does not mean that the people of eastern Nigeria are more in population than every other in Africa.
Therefore, Lagos may be more populated than Kano but Lagos State is not populated than Kano state. Even with out census, most of the statistical data in this respect favour Kano than Lagos.

2006 census was a fraud. Reliable census was conducted during colonial regime. I have been in onitsha, benin city, port Harcourt, owerri, aba, abuja, kano, kaduna, zaria, Katsina. I served in funtua, Katsina state. I am familiar with ilorin . I live in. Ibadan.
There are more people in southern nigeria than north.

It's statistics like these that make me give up on Nigeria! Imagine taking from Peter and handing over to Paul....even when Paul despises Peter!

Look at Onitsha, that's the second most populated and cosmopolitan area in Nigeria...the city get's next to nothing by way of federal infrastructure, recognition and assistance! Almost all it's developmental and governance challenges are left to the Anambra state gov't to manage! This is as the evil gov't in Abuja is stealing their hydrocarbons and refusing to recognise them as a oil producing state!

Then there's kano, that has benefited from the ridiculous number of LGAs the northern miliatry oligarchs handed over to them! They also benefit financially from the ojoro census whereby they receive a lot more than Anambra from the federation account! All these are the financial benefits you know and hear of.....over the past decades, the cunning muslim northern rulers of Nigeria have devised many other stealthy ways to greedily corner even more of Nigerias' resources to their region!

Lagos, as we all know, benefited from a lot of federal gov't infrastructure! The present Nigerian political-economy in play has also benefitted them by way of the pre-eminent commercial and industrial status the city holds in 'one Nigeria'! This city, owned and invested in by ALL Nigerians is presently being administratively controlled by just one ethnic group as we speak! When you ask them, they will tell you the capital of the country moved to Abuja since 1991 (i think that was the year) and so you should remove your 'covetous' eye from Lagos because it now belongs to them....and they're even doing you a 'favour' by allowing you to live there! lipsrsealed

Typical yerobber man, just like the ones I work with.
Ready to die on Igbo matter when abokki are always the major culprits.
Everybody knows northerners are the biggest population fraudsters but you will rather die on Igbo matter.
If you've ever been on an airplane in the north you'll know d so called northern population is a hoax.
Northern Nigeria is where you can drive for 50km without seeing any settlement or even a bush track from the road but na on top Igbo matter you wan die.

Benin City has sprawled to the famous benin bypass !! I really got surprised the last time I traveled passed that area... .. Benin City is big .. but not densily built/ populated like we have in Lagos or onitsha..

Yes
Onitsha is too small for the population. That's why I said if Onitsha had the size of Benin, it would have helped in decongesting it.

Lagos is more of a Mega city. The whole of Lagos which is about 3500sqkm is now the city and not Ikeja only

The whole of Lagos is not the City

There is a city called Lagos that is PART of Lagos state just like Enugu, Oyo, Ondo, Kano Sokoto ,Bauch, etc
This was the former FCT

The whole of Lagos state was never the capital of Nigeria just a tiny part of it

Lagos City existed as FCT before Lagos State was Created and had a Minister one of whom was Yar'adua's father

Lagos State essentially has 5 divisions "DIVISION" is a former official term

Lagos
Ikeja
Badagry
Ikorodu
Epe

Of those 5 divisions

ONE Lagos was the FCT until 1967 when Lagos State was created

The other 4 were Part of the Western Region

If someone who lives in Epe is asked where he lives, they say Lagos and what comes to mind is the mainland itself

onitsha has expanded to other LGAs .. given her land size doesn't limit the urban sprawl...

Southwest behaves like Democrats. You believe it's government responsibility to take care of the people hence the government levies high taxes on the people but for Southeast, we are Republicans, we like low taxes from the government and believe that its better we take care of our families and our communities instead of leaving everything to the government.

We love our freedom better than government handouts.

High IGR that doesn't reflect on everyday peoples lives.

The same self esteem problem manifesting in a different format . Profound insecurity and its compensatory psychology.

What you are speaks louder than all the noise . We are neighbours .Stop telling us you cook turkey every night we can see the dishes.

Well, "republicans" we know you as villagers who never evolved beyond the clan level politics and were sold as slaves for centuries by the Aros, Efik and Ijaw. The sudden cessation of the slave trade is what has led to the dot in circle situation
If you were that smart you won't be a dot
