tensazangetsu20: There is a market for HubSpot on Upwork. The OP can start by taking courses on HubSpot and start right away once he has completed the fundamentals of JS. |
Re: Advice An Intending Freelancer by Nobody: 9:19am On Jun 16, 2021 |
Drella: You need the HubSpot certs. Most are free and will take you only 2-3 days to finish a module depending on the number of hours you spend on it daily. HubSpot is pretty wide tho. I once did some stuff with it and focused on the API aspect and not the CMS thing |
Re: Advice An Intending Freelancer by Nobody: 9:26am On Jun 16, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: You're right about Electron with JS. Web is pretty wide. Lots of tools and lots of frameworks... It's very good to have web skills. However, the enterprise market can never do away with Desktop apps. Guess why? They are actually more secure. Apart from being able to control OS APIs, desktop apps can be built to do very specific tasks that are tied to a computer. Features that browser apps cannot even dream of yet. So if the OP wants to quickly specialize, desktop is a shortcut. He just have to be good and learn it well. Then he has to add Backend and Database stuff with it later so he can Fullstack |

Johnne32: Hahaha What a coincidence, from Reddit to Nairaland You're doing great bro! And your Upwork threads are educational I apologize for referring to you as " Nigerian boy". I think it sounds somewhat derogatory. Please I have a question regarding Upwork's direct contract. Does Upwork still collect their 20% fee when using direct contract? |
Re: Advice An Intending Freelancer by Johnne32(m): 10:25am On Jun 16, 2021 |
AmuEwu: Thanks man. I'm glad I could help! For the name, no need to apologize....I actually love it Now, for your question, Upwork can't collect 20% fee when it comes to direct contract....when they are not mad . They only collect 3.4% of the paid money as fee for using their platform. I explained it well here: https://www.nairaland.com/6600082/found-easy-hassle-free-way-receive#102650392 |

Re: Advice An Intending Freelancer by AmuEwu: 11:01am On Jun 16, 2021 |
Sanctecosma: That's all you need, actually. In tech nobody cares for your degree or background. Its only a case of can you do it, have you done it before, and do you have samples of previous work (portfolio) So yeah, you can learn coding without a computer science background. 1 Like |

First of all, I'm proud of you for actually choosing the hard path of being a freelancer. It's going to be a tough journey, but you can do this! I have no experience with udemy, but if you really want to start ASAP, the best courses are probably anything related to content writing. Contrary to what you believe, you don't need to be an expert at something to write about it–although that would be a definite bonus if you were. You just need to be able to explain it in a way that your target audience can understand you. Basing on your interactions with the other commenters, you have a good command of the English language for your writing! I highly suggest you choose something you're really interested in and try to search popular places like LinkedIn, Upwork, or Fiverr if there are any available positions for your specific niche. Being a freelancer only takes confidence. I began as a freelancer 10 years ago and I did not know what I was doing–I just had the confidence to pitch to clients. That's what gets your foot in the door in the first place. I mainly ghostwrite because it has the highest income potential for my niche (Coaching & Business Consulting) and one of the things that you will probably not need now but will further down the line is to improve your "brand"–which is you. I like making my email pitches to potential clients really catchy, I make sure my invoices are sent on time and look professional (I also have it automated to remind a client of the deadline), and I also create my own contracts because I specify add-ons to an agreement where I can use a ghostwritten piece as a part of my writer portfolio. This all adds to the brand I have as a professional ghostwriter. Another thing, whatever niche you're trying to get into, you need to have background knowledge on SEO. I specifically work on B2B SEO so I can recommend this guide to you, but SEO is generally a really wide spectrum and the internet is a breeding ground of tons of helpful information, you just need to weed the BS ones out. These are things that I learned in 3 months and mastered in 10 years. If I did it without enrolling in a course, you can probably do it with the resources you have. Good luck! 1 Like |
