No fewer than four people have been kidnapped by some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Alaagba village in Ogun State. DAILY POST gathered that the four people who are all workers of a Chinese company handling the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway project were kidnapped on Wednesday. Our correspondent gathered from sources that the kidnappers who dressed in black caftan were about eight. It was gathered that the kidnappers who stormed the site of the rail project at Adeaga/Alaagba in Odeda Local government area of Ogun state also killed a policeman while struggling to abduct the Chinese workers. The corpse of the policeman killed had been evacuated by a team of policemen and men of the Federal Road Sector Commission (FRSC). Baale of Alaagba village, a sleepy town between Oyo -Ogun border, Chief Adekunle Olabamiji, confirmed the abduction of the four people. He said that fierce looking gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had laid ambush in the surrounding forest for the expatriates. He said it was shocking to witness such a gory scene, even when the railway workers were always guarded by policemen and soldiers. A youth leader at Alaaga village, Mr. Azeez Adila narrated how members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) gave the kidnappers a hot chase into the forest, searching the entire bush path in an attempt to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue their victims. He said despite the efforts by the village youths, who mobilised OPC members into the forest, the kidnappers could not be traced as they disappeared with the Chinese expatriates. However, all efforts made by DAILY POST to get a reaction from Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Police Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi proved abortive. Calls put through to his mobile phone were not successful while a text message sent to him for his reaction has not received any reply as at the time of filing this report on Wednesday. https://dailypost.ng/2021/06/17/gunmen-abduct-4-chinese-railway-workers-kill-policeman-in-ogun-village/ |

Pregnant Woman Arrested During #Endsars Protest In Ondo Welcomes Baby In Prison (Photos) A Nigerian lady identified as Kemisola Ogunniyi who was allegedly arrested in October 2020 during the EndSARS protest in Akure, Ondo state, has welcomed a baby at the Surulere prison in the state, IgbereTV reports. Activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore who shared her story online, claimed Kemisola was arrested by the police on October 24 on grounds that she looked like one of the protesters that burnt the APC office in the state. He said since then she had been in prison and has just welcomed her baby. Posting photos of Kemisola with the baby, Sowore wrote; ''@RotimiAkeredolu Kemisola Ogunniyi just delivered a baby in prison. She was arrested in Akure during #Endsars, didn’t commit any offence, only going to the pharmacy for her mother @policeng arrested her, claimed she looks like #Endsars protesters who burnt @OfficialAPCNg office. The green cloth on the table is the same she being wearing in prison . Kemisola has been imprisoned at Surulere prison in ondo state since October 24th 2020!" https://www.facebook.com/803267836/posts/10161678826327837/?app=fbl

Soldiers, police, Amotekun hunt bandits over killing of Ondo farmer’s children Some men suspected to be bandits, on Wednesday, attacked the home of a farmer, simply identified as Dele, in Ajowa Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, kidnapped his two sons and killed two of his other children. It was gathered that the bandits had gone to the residence of a cattle herder in the community, Yinka Oludotun, in the early hours of the day and were shooting indiscriminately, but could not gain entry. A source said it was the timely intervention of the men of the Nigerian Army that foiled the attack as the soldiers chased the hoodlums away from the area. “It was after the bandits could not succeed in kidnapping Yinka that they left for the house of Dele to kill his two sons and kidnap his other two children to an unknown destination,” the source said. The source added that soldiers, policemen and men of the state Amotekun Corps were already combing the Ajowa Akoko forest to apprehend the criminals. When contacted, the state police spokesman, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident and said security agents were already on the trail of the bandits. “Yes, there was a kidnap incident at Ajowa and we are on the trail of the evil men. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing,” the PPRO stated. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/soldiers-police-amotekun-hunt-bandits-over-killing-of-ondo-farmers-children/%3famp |

President Muhammadu Buhari is visiting Borno State on a one-day working visit. The main reason for the visit is for the President to assess the security situation in the North East, and also address the personnel of the armed forces and other security agencies in the Operation Hadin Kai at Maimalari Cantonment. During the visit, President Buhari will also inaugurate some completed Federal and State Government projects. Some of the projects to be inaugurated include the 4,000 housing units for displaced persons out of the 10,000 units being constructed by the Federal Government across Borno, the Senate building of Borno State University, Maiduguri, the Borno State Vocational Enterprising Institute, Muna, Government Day Technical Secondary School, Njimtilo, Dr Babagana Wakilbe Memorial School, Abbaganaram Maternal Healthcare Centre and the Jiddari-Polo road and drainage.

The emeritus Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Okogie, has lamented the insecurity in the country, saying the country is becoming a killing field. Okogie, at his 85th birthday thanksgiving and 50th Episcopal ordination anniversary on Wednesday in Lagos, also said the country was becoming a failed state. He said, “The words of Psalm 85 form the prayer of a patriot for his afflicted country, a fervent prayer for revival and restoration. It recognises that national restoration is entirely man-made, but given by God. Indeed, what other prayer, but for mercy and restoration is appropriate for our beloved country, Nigeria in this trying time of all forms of depressing occurrences? “It seems that Nigeria has become a killing field, as insecurity and terror reign from one end to the other, and there seems to be no end in sight at present. A few weeks ago, on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of this administration, given the severity of the status quo of our socio-economic and political situation, it was shocking that the government claimed that the Nigerian people never had it so good. “It is evident that Nigeria has practically become a failed state; a country fails when it is no longer able to protect its citizens from harm and secure their welfare. A country fails when instead of reassuring its citizens by actions and policies that the future is secured, it becomes a state most people are planning to flee to other climes where their governments are truly functioning.” Okogie added that the problems of the country had become worse under the current regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) “It is true that our problems did not start under this administration, they seem to have worsened economically and politically in this past six years. Insurgency in the North-East is still ongoing and insecurity has spread nationwide in spite of the military being deployed everywhere. “The avalanche of banditry and kidnapping that have overwhelmed parts of the North-West and North-Central cannot be described. The entire security apparatus often seems clueless or helpless. The situation in some parts of the South-East also lives more to be desired; innocent citizens are being killed, properties are being destroyed, people are no longer safe in the land. Unknown gunmen has become a favourite vocabulary in our mouths,” he said. The Catholic Archbishop of the Lagos, Bishop Adewale Martins, lauded Okogie for being an inspiration to the younger generations. “His Eminence has been very concerned about the situation in our country. He built on the foundation that has been there and has made it more solid during his years of governance and we hope that we can continue to build on that foundation. We thank him for the many ways he has been inspiring, encouraging and advising us,” Martins said. https://punchng.com/nigeria-becoming-killing-field-failed-state-says-okogie/ |
