She did not strangle him. She stabbed him in the neck twice and once in the stomach. Any stab that cuts a major blood vessel could lead to death within minutes especially if you were doing exercise or engaged in a struggle before, during and after the stab perforation.

Remember the young Damilola Taylor that was stabbed on the leg by his school mates in the UK and died as he was trying to run to safety after the stabbing. In Ataga's case, she stabbed him in the neck twice and seeing that the carotid arteries are major blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain, neck, and face., she must have punctured the Carotid arteries with one or both of the stabs and as he was afterwards struggling with her, this intensifies the rate at which blood which should be pumped to the brain and other vital organs is pumping onto the floor and the brain can not do without oxygen rich blood for more than a few minutes before death occurs.

So, when people threaten to stab other people or actually stab people to teach them a lesson, I wonder if they knew that "unintentionally" stabbing the other person on a major blood vessel can actually turn them to murderers (within minutes) with the resultant loss of their freedom or even their own lives which they never intended.
