You are handling your responsibility he is handling his. So what exactly do you want. I want to advise you not get involved in this power tuzzle nonsense in the office. You are there to earn your money.

Once a boss always a boss is his mindset. You need to stop seeing him as what he was and see him as what he is .... someone under your supervision. You treat him accordingly... he needs to follow instructions just like everyone else. If he doesn't... then the same protocols that apply to others must apply to him. If you don't... then you will be losing control of your other subordinates and showing your superiors that you cannot manage your department. Why would your superiors then consider you for promotion? They are more likely to consider demoting you and replacing you with someone with more balls. Follow protocols.... verbal... tell him your expectations. If he doesn't follow... write him up. If no changes... and you have the power... suspend him without pay. If you don't have the power... recommend suspension to your boss... who because of his history... may fire him. It's for him to decide his destiny. You simply just need to live up to your expectations..... a professional....be all business with him.... no sentiments.....take no prisoners.

Give honour to whom honour is due, and forget I am now his boss mentality.

Put him in his place. Assign duties to him and if he fail to cooperate, let the management know

Treat him with compassion. Make him feel like you still respect him as a boss even though he is now your equal. Over time he will get along with his new position.

When he was bossing you around, he didn't look at your face. If you are bossing him around don't look at his face too.

Bro what you should do is get close to him amd encourage him... Tell him you understand how he feels right now. Cos nobody be saint for this country. Tell him he can still find his way back to the top. But it will start with him maling impact in the department he is right now.
Tell him of you where in hos shoes, you could have done the same thing and even those other oga maybe doing same too.

This will make him loosen up a bit and work better with you. Just gv him that same respect to you would give him at his old position.

If you do this you will gain hos favour and the reason why he wasn't sacked was cos he had good backing and if he becomes your friend, that backings can help you too in that organisation.
