Police defunding did not start in the first place for lack of money, but because Leftism and commonsense are incompatible.

Leftard-run jurisdictions chose to side with anti-police mob sentiments.
So they started abolishing police before they had abolished crime.
They started "re-imagining public safety wholistically" (more like lunatically to me), replacing police with social workers and "community violence disrupters", which sounds to me like bribing the bad guys and their handlers to keep the peace.

All these have promptly backfired on them and the left is now flipfloping back to sanity from police defunding, just as they are now "evolving" away from the idiotic opposition to voter id requirement.

In the run up to the Georgia runnoff election Joe Biden told his party men to tone down the police defunding rhetoric, seeing how it injured them at the general elections.
