Steps of love - Episode 10

Ifunanya really felt the urge to call Amanda but Victor forbade her.

She regretted ever lying against Victor. She never knew that, her lies would create a difficult situation for him. She never predicted Amanda's robust behaviour.

"No, this guilt is going to kill me if I don't rectify this mistake. What if Victor had died? And his blood will be on my head. Oh Lord, thank you so much for saving this situation. It would have ended terribly. And Amanda....I must tell her the truth. This is the right thing to do, and Victor, you won't stop me"

Ifunanya picked her phone and started heading outside.

"I told you not to call her. Don't tell her anything" Victor ordered in a soft tone

Ifunanya burst into tears.

"Victor, it's all my fault. What if you had died? (sniffles) What if those guys had killed you? What if those police men did not arrive on time? I don't think I would survive with the guilt if something terrible had happened. Yes, I loved you the moment I set my eyes on you and I know I would be so encased in jealousy if you married Amanda, but I think I will survive. It's better than allowing something outrageous to happen to you. Please, allow me rectify this mistake by telling Amanda the whole truth." Ifunanya pleaded.

Victor gazed on her for some seconds and responded.

"Yes, you lied to Amanda, but you did not force her to do what she did today. It was entirely my fault to think that Amanda is still that sweet babe I once knew, but just as passing of time, her kind nature passed away with it."

"No! Amanda is a very nice girl any man would want to be with. She was only protecting my interest based on the lies I fed her and I believe she has feelings for you"

"It doesn't matter any more" Victor reacted

He then remembered how Amanda boldly told those guys that she doesn't know him and he felt more bitter.

Just then, the Keke guy entered his ward. His bruises were all dressed up. He didn't sustain much injury.

"How are you feeling now?" The Keke guy asked Victor.

"I am fine. You were so brave standing up for me. Thank you so much"

"You are innocent, I felt the need to help. I couldn't stand, watching an innocent man waste like that."

"But how did you know I was innocent?" Victor asked

"The stupid girl was laughing, gisting her friend about it. She was so happy that you were about getting killed." he said as Victor and Ifunanya exchanged glances

The Keke guy continued, "some girls are very wicked. She was so mean"

Hearing all that, Ifunanya sat on the chair, still weeping.

"No Amanda, you went too far. You really went too far"

Just then, Victor remembered his car.

"My car...And the key, did you see it?" Asking Ifunanya,

"No..." Ifunanya replied

"My jean....please hand it over to me"

Ifunanya stood, picking up the jean and handing it over to him.

Victor rushed it, checking the pocket.

"Oh no! It's not here! I fear those thugs stole it." he said, tried standing up, but the pains were much, as he lose his stand.

Ifunanya rushed him, holding him from falling down as their eyes caught each other's.

Victor continued looking at her as new kind of feelings developed around his heart, but he couldn't interprete the nature of the feelings.

"Victor, it's a bad idea to leave this hospital bed. Just lie down, while I go get your car. The key must still be at the scene, I will find it and drive your car here. Just stay and get better ok" Ifunanya calmly requested.

And Victor nodded, still looking at her, trying to understand the feelings he just felt.

Ifunanya left, assuring him that, she would return with the car.

Let them fall in love biko. Ifunanya did what she did out of love. Although her approach is wrong but her intentions are good. Although the other girl loved the guy but it seems like she was already expecting the worst from him.

Steps of love - episode 11 by Ngozi Lovelyn

As Ifunanya reached the entrance door, Victor called her.

"Yes" she answered, looking at him.

"Don't say anything to her. I'm serious" Victor insisted

Ifunanya nodded, observing the seriousness on his face.

"I won't" she promised, leaving.

Observing Ifunanya closely, she was hurt on how her lies made situations difficult for everybody. She never expected things to turn out so ugly.

She never stopped wondering why Victor insisted on not telling Amanda the whole truth.

"Amanda is my best friend, I shouldn't have lied to her in the first place. And in order to rectify my mistakes, she needs to know the truth. And now, Victor is making me keep silent about it. I'm in a very tight corner now"

And Ifunanya's phone rang.

"Where have you been? Why are you ignoring my calls? Something is happening with Victor as we speak. I don't know if he is still alive" Amanda spoke on top of her voices.

And Ifunanya was lost of the words to reply her

"Hello... Ifunanya, where are you?" Amanda asked, sounding restless

"I'm at B-line junction" She quickly replied

"What are you doing there?" Amanda asked, wondering what she was doing there.

"Is it about Victor? You rushed there after I told you what was happening? Did you arrive there on time? I mean, did you see him? Do you know where they took him? Ifunanya, I think I made a terrible mistake and I don't know if Victor is ever going to forgive me. I don't even know what I was thinking. I don't know what got into me. I need to see him."

Amanda who was rushing words like a car that lost control, paused, realising how quiet Ifunanya was, which was not so typical of her.

"Hello, Ify, are you there?" she asked

"Amanda, is your heart that cold?" Ifunanya calmly asked in a sad tone.

Realising where the question was coming from, Amanda sadly asked, "Where is he now?"

"He could have died. He could have died, Amanda. I didn't expect such wicked behaviour from you." Ifunanya replied, without giving out the address.

"Say no more, please. Your words are adding more salts to my injury. You can't imagine how I'm hurting right now. This is one thing I'm going to regret for the rest of my life. What's the name of the hospital? I need to see him."

Ifunanya ends the call, without saying anything.

"She ended the call? If Ifunanya is this angry, who knows how much bitterness Victor's heart will be building up for me. I'm really terrified." Amanda feared

And then, her phone beeped. She checked, it was a message from Ifunanya. She opened it and it read the hospital's address.

Amanda started the engine and zoomed off.

Ifunanya tried finding the key, but it turned out unsuccessful. She asked everybody around, but no one seemed to have a clue about the car, nor the key. Ifunanya disappointedly headed back to the hospital.

Amanda was already standing at the entrance door, but still lost of the courage to face Victor.

She breathed fast, slowly stepping in her legs.

Victor, who noticed that someone was standing by the door felt a cool breeze brushing his skin. And he immediately knew that, it was Amanda. It was the same feelings he nurtured for years, searching for her.

"Behind that pretty spotless face hides a witch embedded in human form. You boldly denied me in the in the presence of all, so what are you doing here?" Victor asked.

Amanda had tears flowing freely, down her cheeks as her heart torn into pieces.

Steps of love - episode 12 by Ngozi Lovelyn

Amanda continued standing there, lost of the courage to face Victor. And finally, she walked into the room, standing opposite him. She couldn't look him in the face. She faced down as tears continued flowing.

Victor tried to see if he could let go atleast, a little bit of the anger he had for her, but the more he tried, the more his hatred was building up. He faced so much humiliation and also, his car. The fear of not finding it was making him hating Amanda the more.

"Amanda", he called, as Amanda raised her head up, anxiously waiting to hear the next words that will come out of his mouth.

She felt even more broken, as he kept mute, looking at her with a bold rage.

"I'm sure not going to forgive you if I end up not seeing my car" he bitterly said in his heart as he turned over, facing the wall, ignoring Amanda's tears.

She observed his body, how badly he was wounded, she wished there was something she could do to make everything alright again.

"You should be mad. You have every right to. But I wished I never saw you there. I wished you never came there." She carefully scanned the room, to see if there was someone there.

And then continued: "I wished you had understood my......."

And Ifunanya interrupted her.

"I am sorry, I couldn't find it." She said, looking disappointed.

"Amanda, you are satisfied right? You are happy now? All because of your wickedness, I'm going through a lot today. I curse the day I met you" Victor raked

"Couldn't find what?" Amanda asked, fearing to hear the worst.

As she waited to hear what it was, she earnestly prayed for it not to be a news that will add more pressure to the guilt she was already feeling.

Victor struggled to sit up as Ifunanya rushed to help him up.

"Can you hand me my phone?" he requested.

Ifunanya picked up the phone, looking at how damaged it looked.

"Are you sure it's still working?" she asked

"I need to call someone. My car is missing, I need to do something!" Shouting out of frustration.

"Yes!! Your car. I have it. Here is the key. I recovered it from the guy who tried to steal it. Luckily for me, he can't drive manual." Amanda said, feeling a bit relieved that she saved Victor's car and hoped for her effort to alleviate the situation and make Victor less angry of her.

She went closer to him, extending out the key, but Victor ignored her. She then placed it on the bed, beside him.

Ifunanya continued looking at them, to see what Victor's reaction would be.

"I'm glad I protected your car. Thanks to Ifunanya who thought me how to drive with her father's car." She smiled, looking at Ifunanya who was looking very serious and her faint smile went away.

"This doesn't change a thing." Victor said, raising his head up, looking straight into Amanda's face.

He continued: "Thank God I never ended up with you. It would have been a terrible mistake I will end up regretting all my life"

Amanda's heart is shattered hearing all that.

"Victor, if only I could tell you what is going on. I'm in a stiff situation where I'm paralyzed down" Amanda wept in her heart.

"Can you please help me to the bathroom?" Victor requested, warmly looking at Ifunanya.

"To the bathroom? You want to ease your self?" Ifunanya asked, looking a bit uncomfortable.

"Is there something wrong with that?"

"Um...no...let's go" Ifunanya accepted, giving him a hand.

"Easy...easy...." Ifunanya urged, helping Victor who was feeling pains all over his body.

Amanda stood motionless, watching Victor and Ifunanya heading towards the bathroom.

"What stopped you from informing your wife? Is she not supposed to be here, helping you with this bathroom stuff?" Amanda interfered

"Amanda..." Ifunanya tried to speak as Victor cut in

"I said, you should keep shut, is that too much to do?"

"Ok" Ifunanya obliged as they entered the bathroom.

Amanda stood, watching them.

"My stay here is not welcomed. I better take my leave. And thank God he is in safe hands. Ifunanya will take good care of him" Amanda felt relieved that Victor didn't sustain grave injury.

"Yes, he will live. Soon, his wounds will heal.

"But what about the permanent wound you inflicted in his heart?" Another thought dropped in.

She then became more sad, and quietly walked out of the hospital.

Well, this isn't just about Ifunanya's lies. Amanda's wicked actions speak more than a thousand words, that exposing Ifunanya's secrets won't change a thing.

BTW, Ifunanya has already confessed her actions to him already, so exposing what Ifunanya did won't abate the anger he feels towards Amands

Steps of love - episode 13 by Ngozi Lovelyn

Amanda was still walking back home, weeping in her heart,"If only Victor had understood my signs. He wasn't paying any attention."

Just then, Beat blocked her way, looking in her constant intimidating manner.

Amanda looked up, fixing an angry look on her.

"You watched it. You saw everything, right? What if they had killed him? I left him, with the hope you are going to manage the situation, but instead, you watched those angry thugs beating life out of him. Are you truly his wife?"

"Are you done talking?" Beat asked, with her smokey eyes.

Amanda continued looking at her, looking extremely angry and helpless, as well.

"Amanda, you are a good actress. I saw everything. You know we were watching you the entire time and very closely"

"Yes I knew, I also saw how your car was driving beside the tricycle I was in. But why go this length? There is nothing between Victor and I. We haven't spoken in years..."

"Yes, until... now! Amanda, you are a threat to me. Victor got married to me, but his heart has always belong to you. My speculations were confirmed after I saw your passport photograph in his wallet. That photo was so dear to him. I felt his rage after I burnt it. Victor has never stopped searching for you. I can imagine how broken his heart will be. The girl he spent his life searching ended up a,......should I say, monster. Because, only a heartless beast would deny a person in such a terrifying situation"

Amanda's heart continued crushing in pieces as, Beat continued blattering, piercing her the more.

"I have done what you asked, can you now leave my friend? No harm should come near her. I assure you, I will never come between you and Victor. I will never enter into any kind of relationship with him." Amanda assured, trying to leave, but Beat restricted her movement.

"We are not done talking" Beat said in an authoritative tone

"Why blocking my way? I've done what you ordered me to do and Victor is never going to forgive me, so what's more remaining again? Let me go please"

Beat then stepped out of her way and threatened, "Remember, your friend's life is in your hands. Do anything stupid, she bears the consequences"

"And what will you do to her? Tell me"

"Just try something stupid first, you will find out"

Amanda then regained her movement.

"And hey! Remember, your friend shouldn't find out about all these....or..." Beat added

But Amanda ignored her, continued walking and then stopped, returning to Beat.

"Are you not supposed to be with him in the hospital? You claimed you are the wife?" Amanda got curious

"I know your friend is there. But I'm not bothered, she is less attractive." Beat replied with a a faint smile

Amanda continued giving her a questioning look as Beat walked away.

Steps of Love - Episode 14 by Ngozi Lovelyn

Minutes after Beat left, Amanda was still battling with her mind on what's best to do.

She gave in to fear after Beat approached her with a mean ugly looking guy, threatening to destroy her best friend, Ifunanya if she ever speak with Victor again.

Their threats looked so real and she gave in to their manipulations.
While she was still thinking about it, Victor approached her, trying to make her understand his feelings for her. There wasn't enough time for her to think the whole thing through, to know how best to handle the situation.
And while Victor was still stressing to have Amanda give him a listening ear, Beat was by the side, making threatening gestures.
She loved Ifunanya with all her heart and she then did the next thing that came to her mind, which was pushing Victor away and denying him in public.

Things escalated too quickly and she played as they unfolded, without knowing what the repercussions will be. She never knew, those guys could be so mean to the extent of trying to kill Victor.

"Fear is an enemy of man. If I had remained courageous, things wouldn't have gone out of control. But, not anymore! Yes! Beat, you warned me not to tell Ifunanya about anything.........This time around, I'm doing the right thing"

Amanda then, made a you turn, tightening her face, determining to tell the whole truth about what was going on.

Her hopes were so high that Victor would forgive her after he hears her story.

As she stormed the ward, Ifunanya and Victor were sitting in a close position, as she patted his arms.

Amanda observed them, but never had any negative thought about them. Her mind told her that, she was only helping to calm the pains.

Victor and Ifunanya were looking at her, expecting to hear what she had to say, as it was already showing on her face that she didn't come for a cordial visit.

She stepped a bit further, close to Victor's bed.

Victor then turned his face away. He couldn't stand her presence.

"Ifunanya, can you please tell your friend to leave? Her presence is irritating my wounds" He requested

Ifunanya then stands, trying to approach Amanda.

"Victor, I am not a bad person. I acted under someone's instructions" She paused, expecting Victor to turn and look at her face, so he can give her a listening ear, but he didn't, so she continued.
"Ify, I know I should have called and told you what was going on, but things escalated too quickly. I wasn't able to think out a plan before Victor approached, and situations got out of control. Ify, you can tell Victor, I am not a terrible person. You know me too well. We have been friends for ages. Pls tell him." She pleaded, crying.

But Ifunanya ignored her, giving her a serious look.

Amanda then turned to Victor and continued: "You remember how I was signalling you to go away? I was making a sign, that some bad persons are watching me. Pls try and recollect pls. Think"

But Victor still didn't respond, nor look at her.

Amanda, then moved close to the bed where Victor was sitting and knelt, holding his legs.
"Please Victor, just think...I want you to take your mind back to the scene. Remember how unsettled and terrified I looked. Please try and remember. You said you love me....I believe your instinct doesn't lie to you. Just consult him, I believe you will find out that I'm saying the truth"

Victor continued burning in anger, as flashes of everything that happened kept playing in his head.

"Yes, I remembered...." he said in a deep low tone.

Ifunanya sighed a relief, thinking that Victor was finally understanding her side of the story, she never expected what came next.

Steps of love - episode 15 by Ngozi Lovelyn

"Yes Amanda, I remembered and I'm never going to forget the pains, humiliation and your rejection"

Amanda gazed into his burning eyes as Victor continued.

"Stop trying so hard, it's not working."

At this point, Amanda realized that, there was nothing she could do to make Victor believe her.

"Amanda" Victor called..

"Yes" She answered

"Get up" he requested in a calm angry tone as Ifunanya stood by the side, watching what was happening .

After Amanda stood up, Victor requested her to leave, that he doesn't want her to show her face around him again.

"There is no place for you in my heart anymore. You carefully chose your path and I have chosen mine, so go. Leave from here"

"And that is it....My plans finally paid off. Nothing is ever going to come in between Victor and I, now. Oh dear Amanda, sorry that I made you play this dirty game just to have Victor all to myself. You are no longer an obstacle." she smiled in her heart, hiding her excitement.

"I wish I'm outside, so I can scream out my victory. Beat, you really did a great job, girl" Ifunanya continued praising her plans

Amanda was still pouring out tears, praying silently, wishing for God to come to her rescue, but help wasn't coming.

In order not to look suspicious, Ifunanya decided to plead on Amanda's behalf.

"Victor, what if she is saying the truth?"

"You were not there, so you don't have much to say here" Victor replied

Facing Amanda, Ifunanya requested, "Amanda, can you please leave now? He doesn't want you here, just go?" Ifunanya requested in a bit ordering tone

Amanda got shocked, wondering if Ifunanya was the one who said that. She expected her to continue pleading on her behalf.

"Ifunanya, this happened all because of our friendship. Those guys planned killing you if I don't do what they asked me. It was my fear of loosing you that pushed me into reacting without even thinking things through"

"Stop lying Amanda, nobody would threaten you with stuff like that. And why were they threatening you? With what reason exactly?" Ifunanya asked

"Ok...since nobody wants to believe me. I never wanted to say this, so that I don't create tension between you and your wife." She paused, as Victor looked at her, to hear what she was about to say.

"It was you wife who ordered me to do it" Amanda blurted

"To deny him? To get thugs to kill him? Amanda, what you are saying doesn't hold water. I think you have said enough now. Start going."

Victor shook his head, feeling disgusted at Amanda as Ifunanya kept dragging her out.

"He doesn't want you hear. Just go, I will meet you at home"

"Leave me!" Amanda ordered "I know my way"

"Then leave already" Ifunanya commanded

Amanda observed Ifunanya's face, trying to figure out what was happening, why such strange behaviour towards her. She then looked at Victor and said, "I hope you don't regret not listening to me one day"

She then left.

Victor did not think for a moment, if Amanda was actually saying the truth or not.

He was really hurt and regretted ever knowing her.

"Seems like I don't know Amanda any more. Lies, upon lies, all she kept saying. People can change in a minute. Her actions and the way she denied you in public is unforgivable. No man in his right senses would forgive such outrageous behaviour." Ifunanya kept soiling Amanda's name, to make Victor hate her the more.

4 hours after Amanda got home, her mind was still battling with what transpired at the hospital. She was still shocked at Ifunanya's strange attitude.

"And everything I did was all because of her. People can be so unpredictable. She owes me some huge explanations"

Just then, Ifunanya returned, facing Amanda, who was standing restless, waiting for answers.

But ignored her and headed towards the room.

"How is Victor?" Amanda asked, walking behind her

"He is fine. He has been discharged"

"Ok...That's good to know." Amanda said, looking at Ifunanya who was busy gathering her clothes.

"We need to talk" she added.

But Ifunanya ignored her, still picking some of her clothes.

"Are you travelling?" Amanda asked

"Yes, I'm leaving this house. Away from you, before you kill me too" Ifunanya rudely, replied

Amanda felt more disarrayed.

"I did it because of you. You are my best friend, don't treat me like this"

But Ifunanya continued what she was doing.

Amanda tried all she could to calm Ifunanya and make her stay, but Ifunanya had a plan of her of her own.

And Amanda became more aggrieved and alone.

After Ifunanya left the house, she called Victor, pretending she was asking after his health.

"Hope you are not having much pains now?"

"Yea, I will live" Victor replied and continued, "And you? Where are you? I'm hearing noises"

"I'm looking for a cheap hotel I can lodge" Ifunanya replied, pretending to be sad

"What happened to your house?" Victor inquired

"It's Amanda oo. She asked me to leave her house, just because I failed to support her. How did she expect me to support her lies? I tried everything to plead with her, but instead, she threw my things out of the house" Ifunanya said, sounding as if she was hurt badly
