you have not added accomodation fees and the compulsory 10 million required before you can enter canada. so in total i would say you need roughly 20 million naira ?
accommodation and feeding are part of the POF (c$12960) which is about 4.2m with current exchange rate. Canada don't require 10m before entering.

I've been reading UAE hard, here and there all through the thread. UAE is not abroad this, and that. Granted it's not abroad but it's where I am currently and where I work I earn a minimum of 2k aed...even though it's the regular 9hrs plus 3 hrs overtime. It's not much, but for someone who came into the country 6 months ago and only started working a month and a half ago with zero UAE work experience, it is something. It's a platform to build on for better jobs in future.
The truth that I've discovered about moving to a different country, based on my own and other's experience, is that a lot depends on your attitude, drive, willingness to succeed and your worldview.

Nothing is handed to you abroad. You must earn every dime and even work more than you're paid..But the beautiful thing is opportunities abound if your attitude is right and your focus is steady.
how do you apply for job in UAE or already have the job b4 u leave 9ja?

Why is it that northerners don't move abroad?

For almost 3 decades I live in North America, the only time I ever saw a northerner was in the Nigeria house (Nigerian embassy) on 43rd street in Manhattan, NY. (I can't remember the address again.) in 1996. I saw some Northerner again in London in 2014. Although heard there's one Hausa lady in Scarborough ON., but I've never met her. My guess is there are probably a few northerner that resides outside Nigeria but they are well blended with Yoruba or Igbo that you can't easily identify their tribes.

Perhaps the reason is they are more likely to secure FGN jobs upon graduation.

well I wish you well but you cannot compare yourself with nnpc staff. He saves all his salary for himself, he is his own government while that is not obtainable overseas.

Absolutely no doubt about that

Comparing myself currently with a nnpc staff is nothing but over exaggerating...I'm just trying to say it's better here in 100times...

We have PhD here in manufacturing company working menial...if our country is working we won't be here....

i know so many Regional Bank Managers, CBN staff(that was appointed with her Masters), Bank Managers receiving almost 700k a month still moving to Canada. I can count almost 10 of them. Why do you think they are moving abroad and never for once thought of coming back even after first taking up a Survival Job to kickstart their life in the New Country.

Abi ooo

Why dey quickly convert it to naira is just beyond me. Asif Naira is what the person is spending over there.

You are not looking at this holistically.

If I were to leave Nigeria today, then it'd be because of the exchange rate and we both know it's not going to get better.

Yes it's true that a person over gets to spend in that country's currency and the cost of living/bills is obviously higher.

However, he/she will be able to achieve more at home most especially when they keep sending down money for assets acquisition: reason why they're able to easily build houses, buy landed properties etc

No matter how we try to dismiss it, exchange rate will always be a factor.

This is one of the most useful question I have ever read on nairaland since I joined. The answer is simple. They are the most contented part of Nigeria. The "get money by all means" syndrome in southern Nigeria is the main driving force behind this.....

Most people do not realise what they are enjoying in Nigeria.

Lot of free stuff in Nigeria

The only free stuff you people claim to be enjoying in this country is just the lawlessness and cut corners type of behaviour.

Everyone always looking to dupe the others, is that what you called free things?

What is the minimum wage in Nigeria and in the USA?

Abeg, people should stop this rubbish of comparing Nigeria with these countries.

Nigeria no be country o. Wait until u have an emergency health issue in Nigeria, u will die except there is special grace.
Most of ur health care in Nigeria are dumbing ground. Most hospitals don't even have enough beds for people. Like u will wait for ur turn to use beds grin

People think that life starts and ends with their income. We are talking about facilities which are pry duty of govt. They are none functional in Nigeria abeg.

As we dey talk, my area have not seen electricity for five days now angry

Nigeria is chaotic. Na una wey dey disturb una selves with building of houses, buying plenty cars and doing all that shit when u reach abroad that make it look like they aren't doing well.

Anyone who is comfortable with living quite comfortable, will never regret leaving Nigeria. Na when u dey find money, plenty money to shock people in Nigeria and buy plenty cars, that is when u begin mount pressure on ur self.

I swear!!

Well, I have no stories to share.

But I'll say lack of information is what pushed many into the suffering they are passing through overseas.

Some are tricked my pictures they find online.

Some are tricked by a common lie that things are so easy abroad and you would be handed a dream job on your arrival.

Some think accommodation is easy to get and you would have made enough salary to pay house rent.
But they don't even realize that in some places rent is monthly and you pay light and water bills.
Nothing is free over unlike in Nigeria where you can get water for free

Many people even believe that in the overseas, graduating from a university means automatic jobs

Many people even believe that in the overseas, university admission is sure

It is this same lack of information that makes people insult everything about Nigeria. This is what Hollywood movies have done to them
we are not asking for your opinion but experience

Bills are higher in Nigeria actually when you do the math.
Bills are High in Nigeria if you want to Live a Good Life. Can you Run Your Generator 24/7 incase there is not light, Can you get a good Car to move around, You eat good food in Nigeria?, Can you afford a 4G Unlimited internet Subscription for your own Family, Can you subscribe for Netflix?
The Answer to these Good life questions is YES. To live a good Live in Nigeria is possible but it Come with a Price and also require you to be among the High wage Earner in Nigeria.
On the Other Hand in Canada and other Abroad, You can actually live that same Good life on their Minimum wage and still have some savings.

Everything in Naija is just scattered.
No organization.
In Fact, repatriating me and giving me the same JUICY JOB which I had before leaving would even kill me more.
Just look at the insecurity alone.
How can INEC CHAIRMEN & Collation Officers have better CVs than those vying for elective positions?

Imagine Kids heading to schools and watching suspects being lynched with tyres and petrol.
Is that country Normal?

The only REGRET I have is, I didn't leave EARLY.

Don't mind most of the commenters. Their major focus is money. They don't look at the insecurities plaguing the whole country. Ask them if they have all the money in Nigeria, can they move around boldly without paying for private security?

There is a thread in front page where kidnappers stormed hospital and kidnapped babies and hospital workers. The thread is in front page right now. Can you imagine that? Now someone who is only money conscious will be advising people to stay in this insecurities ravaged slum called Nigeria where everything is disorganized and life threatening.

it's just a general culture. And there's a lot of land here in the north so farming is always a good alternative. You can make 1.2m naira from dry season rice farming and be eating the money small small through out the year. Or put it in another business like storing sesame, wheat or beans. The desperation to go out and survive has not yet hit the north badly. Its people who don't have capital to buy fertilizer, fuel for pumping water, and grains that do menial jobs. But in rainy season, they farm.

What of Estonia in southern Europe, if someone is going through education.
Re: Do You Regret Leaving Your Lucrative Nigerian Job For Abroad Menial Job by Ashirioluwa: 11:47am On Jul 05, 2021
The misconception most Nigerians have is that you will be a rich man / woman if you travel abroad. This is not true.

Moving abroad doesn’t make you rich but it will give you access to so many things like good quality of life (electricity, good transportation system, security etc), free and quality education at elementary and secondary school level etc. All these come with a price.

With my job then I was able to live a decent life compared to other Nigerians. I built a small house for myself and was driving Toyota Corolla but I left the job 2nd month after my woman gave birth to my 2nd child. Everybody was surprised at this bad decision.

I saw hell for the first 3 months. Can’t work because I don’t have paper. The worst part was I can’t go back home too because I won’t get my job back. Everybody was blaming me.

I can tell you today that the best decision I ever made in my life was leaving Naija at the right time. I am not rich but I can afford most basic things. I have been able to travel to the best part of the world for vacations

Estonia is not Southern Europe. Check you Map Very well, This is one of the way in which people regret, You need to do research very well, You are moving to a country, you do not even know where the country is. My brother, Google free for Use. I am sure someone told you that Estonia is in Souther Europe and you belived without further reaserch. That is is the same way people believe every picture of abroad they saw online especially Instagram.

It is one of the Baltic nations others are Lithuania, Latvia. it is in the North. Studying in Estonia is Good.

Bros I do regret my decision of leaving my job to move to UAE
. We are talking about good country and you mentioning UAE. UAE is not a country you can go and hustle unlike UK,US, Canada and Ireland. If anyone wanna migrate don't try to go to a country that you don't understand their language. Everything in life is a risk but one thing I know is that the percentage of those who regretted of going to abroad is 20% compare to those who are really happy of making decisions of traveling abroad. And moreso most of Nigerians that didn't make it in abroad are the lazy type and those who believe in doing fraud, how do you expect a lazy type to make it in abroad? You have to worked for what you paid for. Abroad is not for lazy type. Relocating to abroad have more advantages than disadvantages. If you have aims of relocating to abroad because you wanna be a billionaire like Dangote erase that thought from mind, abroad is for people who are contentment with a little they have.

Ok, there is no room for much debate, If you love your Nigeria please stay and enjoy it. If you think you want to go global and experience other better life, more quality than Nigeria move.

But my experience when I attended a party in London, they were coming one after the other asking me why did I want to go back to that country. Me wey I just went for a visit.

One said you said you had a good job in Nigeria but can you spend 1million on a Saturday party in Nigeria.

I just squeezed my face, the other said to me I build houses anyhow in Nigeria because of our spoilt currency.

The other said I make my money here earning 3.5k per month doing care jobs I will never come Nigeria, I buy cars in the US got a car port in Nigeria.

In my opinion, those over there are doing better than us, regardless of the bills they pay, when they struggle for sometimes they will be ok later, our money has gone astray, we like to pretend here, why,? Nigerian can form. Country hard people still dey form say naija is ok. Is all right make una continue.

I don't know if most people commenting here are doing so out of experience or just saying.

As for me, I do not regret it one bit. The menial job was just for a while before getting my feet up and then I got a job that matched my qualifications.

Yes, there's loads of bills to pay and you may not have enough left when all this is sorted, but you have a good quality of life, enjoy what you pay for - constant light, water, good roads and transportation links, good health care and numerous other benefits that cannot be qualified monetarily.

You do not compare sleep and death. I repeat, I do not regret leaving the lucrative job I was doing to relocate. Best decision I ever made

Saying ICT and medical shows you don't know so much about the available options that you can dive into and make that 6 figures. Once you are making 6 figures per year abroad, then you are now comfortable. Not rich o, comfortable
