Bro na lie. No be only ICT or medical, Basically anything STEM will fetch your good money. I have engineers whose starting salary is six figures.

Saying ICT and medical shows you don't know so much about the available options that you can dive into and make that 6 figures. Once you are making 6 figures per year abroad, then you are now comfortable. Not rich o, comfortable
see this man who would give you engineering work, if you don't have oyibo experience through placement or internship who would give you engineering work? Where you have eastern Europeans, Americans all over the place. Unless you are talking of middle east. Please let us not deceive our people. If you are not in medical line or ICT, oyibo would give you minimum wage work to do.

Got a job 6 months later in the same company I used to work in Nigeria. My savings after bills and feeding every month is time two of my total salary in Nigeria. I have piece of mind, no mosquitoes, good health care, no generator noise etc. Nigeria na hell fire biko

So, Canada get this things too like Europe cool
Shokoloko:
Why would one leave a lucrative job to go abroad and work menial jobs?. If combined family income is up to N1 million naira monthly perhaps no need to move

Not all abroad is "abroad". Choose the country wisely - it is triple hard when the country is not English speaking.

Be careful how you get into the country.

Understand that in your first year you will be tested, but it gets better. Take advantage of ALL the social assistance programs available. Electricity support to pay for electric bills, Rent support to pay for rent, Works assistance to help you get by while you look for work, University loan assistance to go to school to upgrade, Food banks for free food, Salvation army for free food and clothes and utensils, Provincial help for furniture. Do not raise shoulders, take the assistance first. If you have children below 18 apply for CCB, every child is paid 500-600 CAD monthly. OHIP for free healthcare. Do not compare yourself with anyone in your first year(This is for Canada)

Do not do a menial job more than 6 months, even 3 months of menial work is enough to show employers that you have Canadian experience, Even if you came in as a refugee, take a loan/grant and study to be a PSW/CNA, take a loan and buy a car and drive uber or apply to work in a call center.

Nice one
Most Nigeria just think about getting rich as that what they think always.
Here min wages will feed and pays your bills unlike Nigeria where min wages can’t even buy someone food in a month
I don’t care to be rich but just want normal life for myself and family.
Good health
Good school
Job security
Good transportation etc

If you are going to Canada, go as a student or as a permanent resident. Even as PR, you may have to do odd jobs for few months. Some get on their feet within a year, some don't even in 3 years.....But with persistence ,prayers. good network, certifications, and further education, you will surely get better. You may have to start from the scratch. It is not as easy as being portrayed in Canada. Go to a cheaper province instead of the urge to live in Toronto or Vancouver. Don't buy a new car or rent an expensive apartment.

If you are going to the US, go as a student and for a STEM degree that allows you to stay in the US for few years and be hopeful you will be on H1 B visa and get an employer that will sponsor you. If you are rich and can afford EB5 visa, then you can do whatever in the US. Most Nigerians go to the US on visiting visa and they expect they will become a millionaire overnight. Your immigration status in the US will determine how easy life is for you. Nigerians do a lot of things to 'regularize' their status in the USA........most are under the table arrangement and personally I won't advise such.

UK is dicey. You need to be a top talent to get a good job after study. It is not all that easy, but some people still make it after graduate studies.

I will advise Canada and USA, but know that your first one year may be challenging and this is the essence of the proof funds required for study and immigration.
Build your CREDIT history in Canada if you are a PR. Borrow and pay as at when due and increase your limit. You can borrow and invest in Nigeria.......This is what many folks in Canada are doing right now.

Above all, the advantages are there so also the disadvantages.....only that advantages outweigh the disadvantages if your status is legal. People are having a good life in Canada and USA and some people are living in regret. Some are having it hard in Nigeria and some are living the best of their lives here.
You need to ask yourself some critical questions and you have to manage your expectations.

I delayed my relocation to Canada because of a project here........I have my family members there and they are part of the lucky ones who are able to buy their houses within 3 years of relocation and are doing fine. But, you don't want to know how much they are OWING.....A good debt they call it because they have good jobs and good credit history and they are not 'expected' to clear the debt now......One of them is looking for business to do in Nigeria and also keen to come back as he now has his Canadian passport.

I will relocate to the USA because of my wife and kids as soon as I can afford EB5 visa while I continue to work on my business in Nigeria.

I will say this, if you don't have much to do in Nigeria and there is no hope of something coming up irrespective of your age, please japa if you have the means, albeit legally.

If you have a good job here and you want to travel because of your children, have a plan and be resilient as you may have to do some odd jobs before you get a good job. There are testimonies of friends that got fantastic jobs within few weeks.

Above all, let God and good planning lead you.

Chai . Ur 2nd story bros nah ajebutter . No confirm Ajepako go reach Canada go ever think of coming back to Nigeria. thats why its said if you are earning around 200k plus in naira per month , Abroad is not for you to relocate rather for enjoyment . but people wey dey do factory work ,shift work join , wey they enter danfo ,and molue join , wey dey sweat for body like fowl for naija , nah them abroad and relocation fit work for. People wey be say them get strength to dey do 2 to 3 jobs in a day , people wey no dey look uche face. Person wey never get AC for Car , Those ones would do everything to adapt to the new environment.

If the second story is true why do Nigerians still rush to Canada in droves?

Like every move, settling in a new country js challenging, however I do not believe these stories as I can tell you my personal story of living in 3 countries in less than 6 years and my experiences were all positive

Most of the people commenting here are delusional. You have no first hand experience but will quickly jump at answers and conclusion.

The best set of people to migrate are single folks less than 30. The important part is that you need to be smart. Have the right skills and experience and be very much driven. In 2-3 years if you get into the right countries with proper work authorization, the sky is the limit.

I know of the UK and Canada and I have more than 10 family and friends that have been able to multiply their income by more than 10 times since they left Nigeria. All in less than 5 years.

Minimum wage in Calgary is $15/hr for god sake.

You got the word right. Delusional. A friend of mine borrowed his flight ticket to Australia. He owns two houses in Australia and one in Abuja in the space of 4 years while doing his menial job

Baba only people that don't have better plans for their lives see Nigeria as a paradise.

Only the insecurity alone is something to worry about. They always focusing on the money aspect. Kidnappers don't want to use ear hear that somebody just flew down to Nigeria from abroad.

Some comment out of ignorance. They don't know how terrible Nigeria is. Those that don't have hope of leaving are mostly the ones that discourage others. But anyone who is wise will know that this country is not a safe place to be.

They don't have the opportunity brother, once they have it trust me, , they won't hesitate to leave. I said more than what they are saying.

How did you start as an IT specialist freelancer? What were the things you put together?

Your advice for someone who has interest

Its is not as difficult as you think

before you can start freelancing in the US you must possess a valid work permit or be a green card holder to get a client or work with a prospective company or organisation...

Without that it's a crime to bid for jobs as an alien on US Freelancer websites

1 Choose a niche
Specialised on what kind of work you can do and what kind of clients you can take on.. for me it's IT.

2. Get cleared on your service and offering decide what you do and what you don't do, be specific about the service you can render.

3. Define what you are in idea client looks like
I want to design a website for a private business owner or an organisation.

4. You need to create high-quality portfolio website
Showcase your expertise, show who you are, past projects

5. level up your skills
As an IT developer you need to still keep learning more

6. You need to determine your pricing
you need to decide on what to charge for your projects

7. Networking
convince your existing customer or clients to get you more of their friends.

8. You can submit a proposal to a company
which will include your portfolio that consist your past project you may be lucky

9. Finally you can create a social media platform and market your service online

2 stories

1st story

I met a waiter at rhapsody in ikeja shopping mall, who regretted leaving Nigeria for dubai, i asked him why? He said he left his stable job to Dubai, got to dubai and was earning 70k, was also living in a shared accommodation with 4 people, after working for 5 months, he resigned and left Dubai for Nigeria.

2nd story

My cousin left his well paid job for Canada, sold his properties in naija and moved to Canada with his family, first 8 month of his life was hell upon earth, from bills to bills, from one low wage job to another, the neighborhood he was living with his family was infested with gangs, the public school was also infected with gangs, his children got bullied because of their accents, his wife, even though supportive couldn't get a good job, bros was tired of everything.

So he decided to solve his problem by moving back, after the scrap they could save in Canada, my guy and his family moved back to Nigeria, they had to start afresh, thank God, he had a supportive family and friends, they use their connections to help him find another good job but what is lost is lost till today he still regrets selling his properties for Canada.

Is that 2nd story true?

My family friend too applied for asylum in USA along with his family and today everything is good for them
lordally:

I swear you just hit the nail on the head!!! Lemme tell you my uncle's story. For so many years he's been trying to move abroad and he's been duped a couple of times. He got admission and refused to go to school saying the Nigerian system as being useless!! He's been working as a security guard for several years and the while family saw him as being useless and having no ambition! Everyone gave up on him! Omo this uncle of mine had all his mind in the US and it's either USA or nothing!! Then in 2017 God picked his call and he got a visit visa to the USA for a conference in NEW YORK Omo before he left withing a week the while family raised 900K for him plus his own little savings so he left. After the conference in NEW YORK , he moved to another State then started planning numerous legal ways to legalise his stay. He knew he had to look for ways to legalise his stay withing the 2yrs his visit visa was valid. So to cut story short , he applied for Asylum with a valid reason and he employed and immigration lawyer mind you the moment he applied for Asylum he was given a temporary work permit of which he could use to work pending till when his Asylum case is being determined , he was also given an accommodation and Food stamp. To cut the story short , he was granted an asylum and he now enjoys benefits in the US. As of today he has a house he bought in the US , A car , he has a land in Nigeria too and he's been helping family members to some extent. So I would say for someone who has only WAEC and was working a security job in Nigeria living a good life top earners live in Nigeria I would say moving abroad brought only good tidings for him. 2yrs back he collapse at work and And 911 was called they came ASAP was administering first aid to him right in the Ambulance until he got to the Hospital. Dr said something about Kidney stone or something I can't recollect but he called his siblings and told them about it Omo everybody don begin dey plan how them go start praying and fasting Omo the next day he called and said the Dr operated on him and it's been resolved!!! Now tell me if he was in Nigeria na mortuary in for land!

So looking at my uncle's case Omo if you no what's you're doing and you're so determined to move abroad not cos you're being forced Omo you go make am abeg!! In 2019 he even tried to help 6 members of the family come over!! He paid money for our passports and Visa application fees but Omo dem deny all of us ooo!! So for me Abroad anytime any day!

So many lies in this thread. I’ve been up and down the US and haven’t seen Nigerians begging on the streets. Your family members can afford to go home, they are not stuck here. They lie to you about being too broke to come home because they don’t want to leave their 24 hour electricity, clean running water, fast and cheap WiFi to go to Nigeria and go for days with no power, get eaten by mosquitoes, and see trash everywhere.

Many immigrants are eligible for food stamps which is about $150 usd per person, A household of 5 of your relatives is probably getting about $750 in free food every month thanks to food stamps. Due to Covid, the government has been paying rents.

If they tell you they are struggling, it is because they don’t want to share the money they are saving to go on vacation anywhere but Nigeria.

An average northern no get problems like southern person.

becos they always get contented with any little they have, not like my other brothers that always desperate to have everything.
