This shiit almost happened to me years back....i remenber forming person wey just come from olympic for one pool party like that simply say b!tches plenty for the party naa...as i wan go dive for the deeper side na im wan guy wey god go help me bless just halla me say hope i sabi swim shaa...but head wey go chop cane go chop am...that day ehn i saw a glimpse of heaven and hell....drowning is not a good way to die brothers/sisters i tell you...

As a student of Uniben and someone in the same faculty as him. What we were told was that he hit his head as he dived into the pool. Some of the students were detained by the police and the police are demanding 250k for the release.
The school management has distanced their selves from this unfortunate incident.
I'll drop more news as i get more information

Education of a child is incomplete without the ability to swim. As parents, individuals and the society at large, there's the need to priotise learning how to swim as part of a our childrens' education, as inability to swim is a disaster waiting to happen....

This brought back some memories, several years back me and my friend went to the pool to swim. As we were there my younger sisters class mate arrived the pool with a girl on his arm, she was just close marking him.

That's how he now went to join some guys who wanted to race the length of the pool, unknown to everyone that he couldn't swim.

As the race start, na so d guys run everybody jump enta water. After they jumped in me and my friend continue our gist,we dint even bother to check on the outcome of the race.

Small time we come c confusion by the poolside,... Say dem no c person. Ah...

People started jumping into the pool, after the third guy jumped in, they were now able to pull him out of the water.

Na d 1st day I see say human being eye complete white... D black of his eyes had rolled up and only d white was showing with water dripping from his mouth, omo I fear.

His girlfriend was busy crying and shouting AUSTIN AUSTIN...
After few seconds of pressing his stomach he coughed out water and the black of his eyes came down a bit.

That's how we carried him straight with someone's car to the hospital.

He was sha admitted and immediately placed on drips, with his girlfriend crying and thanking us. We saw he was getting stabilised and decided to leave back to the pool to get our stuff.

The funny thing is because of the whole drowning episode, we rushed him to the hospital in only our swimming trunks, no shirt and bare footed.

Kai, it was very embarrassing as we stood by the roadside trying to flag down a taxi. Cars passing were just looking at us, even empty taxis refused to stop. Finally after a while 1 taxi stopped, you need to see the looks on faces of those in the car. We explained to them what happened and why we were looking like that and we all ended up laughing about the whole scenario.

The driver said he was scared to stop wen he saw us standing bare feet with shorts, no shirt and white bodies (chlorine in the pool has a way of drying your skin and making it white) but just picked the courage and decided to stop. When we got to our destination he refused to collect money

That day I learnt a very important lesson in life...

RESPECT WATER...

If you don't know how to swim, don't front like you know how to, that shit could very well cost you your life.

I lost my younger sister in 2019. I can totally relate. His family must be devastated beyond words

I just feel that law should be enacted to enforce that there must be standby guard at every pool where people are swimming. Drown in a sea, ocean, pond, streams is a bit sensible than in a controlled (social) pool.
