There were indications last night that the Senate may reject President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Ms. Lauretta Onochie, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) representing Delta State.

The Nation investigation showed that Onochie’s nomination is among the big issues on the agenda of the Senate as it plans to proceed on Sallah break and its annual vacation.

There were indications at the weekend that Onochie was among issues that have caused ripples in the Ninth Senate.

A senator, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent on Onochie’s nomination and some other matters, said there were doubts about the possibility that she would be confirmed.

When told that it appeared the Senate had made up its mind to clear Onochie for the INEC job, he disagreed, saying: “Never mind all the stories they (the media) are writing. I doubt it.”

Because the Senate dropping Onochie would be a huge surprise.

But I doubt Lawan led senate is ready to give us that surprise.

That would be the biggest achievement of the 9th Senate since 2019. However, I won't be surprised if it turns the other way round but with APC and Bubu anything is possible.

Which kind useless country is this? senate will reject onochi or may reject her?though I know Nigeria senators under rubber stamp lawan leadership can stamp anything as long as it comes from buhari but I believe this useless woman will not get up to 20 votes among apc senators not to talk of pdp senators,this thing is common sense nah, how can Nigeria senators be even debating onochi eligibility if they are not bunches of senseless human being,onochi is a chauvinistic and fanatical apc/buhari supporter for goodness sake!

This administration is unfortunate. Is this woman the only person from her state or tribe that can occupy the position? Must the government be insensitive and court controversy by all means? How do you make your very vocal spokesperson an umpire? How independent can she really be?
Rewarding your goons with sensitive positions has been a major undoing for the president and a spillover of his nepotism.
