The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra may remain in the custody of the Department of State Services until September as judges of the Federal High Court begin their annual vacation on July 26, the date slated for the hearing of his case.

The judges’ vacation will last till September 17, 2021.

A vacation notice was issued by the Chief Information Officer of the Federal High Court, Catherine Christopher, in Abuja, on Monday.

It reads in part, “Pursuant to the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honorable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, announces to Hon. Judges, stakeholders and the general public, that the Federal High Court will proceed on its Annual Vacation for the Year 2021 from Monday the 26th day of July, 2021 to Friday the 17th September, 2021.

“The Court resumes sitting on Monday the 20th of September, 2021.”

According to the statement, the 2021 annual vacation was necessary for the judges to rest and prepare for the new legal year.

It also stated that only the core divisions of Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt will remain functional throughout the vacation.
The vacation judges who are to sit during the period are Justice A. R. Mohammed and Justice O.E. Egwuatu for Abuja Division; Justice I. N. Oweibo and Justice Tijjani Ringim for Lagos Division; and Justice S. D. Pam and Justice A. T. Mohammed for Port Harcourt Division.

The statement also stressed that during the vacation “only cases of extreme urgency, such as the arrest of Ship(s) and Fundamental Rights Enforcement are to be entertained.”

Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had adjourned the trial of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to July 26 and 27.

Justice Binta Nyako had given the order while granting the application by the prosecution to remand Kanu in custody upon his re-arrest.

mans gonna be locked up for a really long time, he was really giving the govt serious headache they had to kidnap him in gestapo style. Mandela did 27 years in prison but finally got what he was fighting for. I dont agree with the brash and crude way hes going bout his business though.

That has always been dia game plan to delay d commencement of substantive trial ad infinitum. We all remember the timeline of event leading to d moment Kanu ran away for his dear life. He was scheduled for a court appearance on d 14th of October 2017 and was even in high spirit that he will be going to Abuja with 1000 of his men and come back with Buhari's head only for the Military to invade his ancestral home on d 17th of September 2017 to kill him and annihilate d struggle in a commando like python dance operation were over 28 persons were killed extrajudicially

Yes, the DSS needs more time to convert him from an animal to human. Kuje beans and fura are the necessary supplements for Kanu.

He will be presented in court as soon as he is certified to be normal again.

So at this point in time, the honorable Judges without recourse decides to go on strike at this pivotal timeline in the history of this country. The energy and inactions of this government is just disturbing from kidnapping Nnamdi KANU at stupendous expense to deciding not to immediately prosecute him shades a glimpse into the twisted and diabolical machinations running the affairs of this country.


One cannot expect anything better from these hypocrites dishes out. The question really begging to be answered is this: if this government had put in this energy in clamping down on boko Haram and bandits, wouldn't Nigeria be a safe place to live especially at the north. The gun carrying terrorists have been handled with kids gloves albeit negotiated with. But should such happen in the south, they would launch full scale war on men, women and children.
