It depends on the one you like to use. If it's long span, I think they sold for N2,250 per SQM around me last week.

ESWAMA DRAMA, EPISODE ONE

On a very good Monday while I was in a building site in Enugu supervising a decking carpentry work, I had stayed about an hour when I remembered that I hadn't eated any meaningful meal all day, and it was past 2pm, so I told my workers that I will be back shortly, I left my car in the site and walked about a hundred metres or more to a restaurant on the corner.

I had just settled down to a meal when my phone rang, it was my carpenter who was sounding frantic, he told me that men of the ESWAMA task force in Enugu were in the site demanding for evidence of payment of debris disposal levy which every site is supposed to pay before construction can start, I asked the carpenter to check it on the wall where I normally leave it pasted. But, he told me that the rains of the previous night peeled the sheet away (as we had no covered place to keep the photocopy) so I asked him to wait for me as I was just around the corner eating. He gave the phone to the stern talking official who spoke to me, I assured the man of coming there in 2 minutes to give him the copy in my car, but he told me he will wait till I come.

I raced back to the site, abandoning my food only to see that the carpenter has been bundled into their bus and they sped off. They usually trick people by asking you to speak to a policeman inside the bus, the policeman will ask you to sit beside him and as soon as you settle on the seat, other officials will close you in and drive you to their office by force. Why couldn't they wait for me when they promised to.

So I called the carpenter, he told me they are speeding back to their office with him, so I started up and chased after them. Somehow, I got to their office before the team, and patiently waited for them in a hidden area to come in. When they reached the office, I quietly came out and asked what the problem is, they wanted to know who I was, and I told him I was in charge of the project. They told me it was me they were looking for, and that they will release the carpenter and detain me for failure to pay up. My mood immediately changed from anger to laughter.

I dared them to go ahead and arrest me and release my carpenter, so they told my worker to go out while I should go into the cage. I waited patiently as my carpenter crossed the gate and went very far, pretending to be walking towards the cage. So they crossed out my carpenters name and asked what my name was so they can replace the name. Big mistake by them.

I quickly swung to their mode, went down to their level and unleashed the thug behaviour which they understand better, I was hurling words at them, asking them to dare touch me if they are not afraid, there was a large crowd of officials, police, and arrested people watching the drama. It quickly turned to a pushing match as they were telling me to enter the arrested peoples area, one of them pulled off his shirt and wanted to fight me! People were restraining him from attacking me. Those people can be very arrogant.

Many more people rushed out to know what was the problem, and then the officer that knows me came out and called out to me, I told him I had paid, and removed the receipt from my pocket, the receipt had his signature. The thugs were still claiming right, insisting that I let the carpenter get away, the drama continued but I knew there was no way they can do anything. In the end, one Oga called all of us into his office and mediated on the matter, the issue was settled and I left the place in only 15 minutes, without paying anything. The thugs later followed me to my car and wanted me to roger them something, smiling and acting apologetic but I just drove off. Its tough out there.

LAGOS IS A GREAT STATE 1

In my line of work, I have been to Lagos many times, either to see a site location, to buy vehicles or building materials or to negotiate one deal or the other. I must say I have enjoyed my travels, but I enjoy Lagos on a very different level.

And so I found myself in Bariga in my quest to purchase something. I arrived Lagos the previous evening and spent the evening among rowdy brothers who all wanted me to stay in their own houses. After a lot of talk and laughter, I went home with a cousin brother who was supposed to take me to the market the next morning.

We took off in the morning, and we chose to ride in commercial buses. I found something intriguing, we entered up to 3 buses before we got to our final destination. Right from the first one, there were issues. Long lines of traffic meant that we were going very slow. LASTMA and road safety trying to enforce the laws as they understand.

The real drama started on the second bus, our driver tried to pull out of a bus stop without watching out for oncoming motor bikes from behind, and narrowly missed knocking down 3 men on a bike, the bike had to swerve at the last second to avoid a collision, then all hell broke loose.

The bike wavered a bit and stopped some distance in front of us, the bike driver dropped the bike, I mean, laid it flat on the middle of the road and what happened next surprised me. The 3 young men from the bike were racing towards our bus in full speed while screaming all forms of invectives, grabbed the driver by the throat and ready to beat him, the conductor was begging and speaking fluently.

To my shock, about eight other young men that were sitting in the bus stop before all rushed out and joined in the melee, everyone was shouting at the same time and the situation was very rowdy. Every window had a man speaking into the bus as if they were cursing the driver. What my guide told me was "put your phone in your pocket o" grin

After sometime, the matter calmed down after the driver begged them.

I was still wondering about all these in the 3rd bus when we ran into the touts along the road, they were about 6 of them waiting on a busy bus stop, 2 came to the driver and asked for payment, he told them he had paid. Without saying a word, they went to the back of the danfo and removed the back boot cover, (that section where the rear glass is) and carried it into the bus stop and waited. Our journey had to stop again for another round of shouting and settlement. After about 5 minutes, they paid and drove off with their back cover replaced.

Innocent me, I even thought that was the end, I was totally wrong. About 10 meters up the road, some stern looking policemen stood in front of the bus and asked the driver why he stopped 10 metres back there, the drivers explanation about the agberos didn't work, he was pushed into the passenger seat while a policeman entered the drivers seat and commandeered the bus away, on their way to the police station.

Just like that? grin

We had to beg to be let off to alight from the bus, and that was how we joined the 4th bus to where we were going.

I was left speechless. None of these 3 incidents would have happened in Enugu. But it's a different location with a different rule. I don't know if I can ever live in Lagos, I told my brother grin

You made me remember my uncle that stays in ibadan in the early nineties...Whenever hes coming to lagos, he drives his own car. He will call my parent to arrange a driver for him. The driver will be at Berger bus stop, they will exchange wheel from there and the driver will drive him all tru the one week or less that he plans to stays in lagos.
His usual word is this, Aburo, mi o le gbe eko yin o, mi o de le wa oko nibi bayii. (My brother, i cant stay or drive in this your lagos o).. That was 93/94 ooo, you can imagine today!

went to buy electrical cables in a popular market last month, on a Friday. I had heard rumours about planned increases of electrical wires and cables across many companies and products but I wanted to move fast.

I found out costs of many other cables before i went to see one of my customers who deals directly from the company i wanted to buy their products. As soon as they saw me, the asked how i knew that prices were about to change, hence my coming, i laughed and told them that I wanted to beat the deadline of price increases. They were the people that told me that prices were set to be increased officially by next week Monday.

I gave them my shopping list and told them to prepare an invoice for me, using the old company prices I knew. They were doing that when I left, got other materials I wanted from 4 other shops, got their invoices and headed to this electrical cables shop, they were still writing the invoice and bringing out my ordered goods, healthy looking coils of cables, not tampered with. I collected the invoice and their account details and left. I went to the bank and sent them money, then returned to the line to arrange transportation.

As soon as I arrived the shop, I noticed that the mood was changed, there were about 3 other men, standing around and arguing with the dealer. They all hushed up when I approached, the dealer was shouting and shaking his head, almost at the point of tears, I thought something serious happened, and it had.

The dealer explained to me, with a note in his hand, that the company decided to increase the prices that Friday instead of the planned Monday, and they had sent them memos to increase the prices. I told them that the price increase doesn't concern my transaction, and that was when some of them lost their temper and started raising their voices, more men gathered, they accused me of knowing about the price increase and coming to play a fast one on the dealer.

They were defending their member and telling me that I must pay the balance to reflect the increase, I refused, and they told me to give them my account number so they could transfer the exact sum I paid and the transaction will be cancelled. I told them that I had already collected my invoice and has paid, we have entered the sale contract and I must collect my goods complete and without delay.

I submitted this quotation to the owner of the house using the old prices, he paid me same day, how can I now return to tell my client that the money he paid yesterday is no longer enough, it will look suspicious.

How much was the additional added money for the cables I am about to buy? N241,500 (or so, cant remember the exact sum)

I went to my vehicle and hid the invoice since I was afraid they will snatch and tear it. Came back and demanded for my goods. Well, the dealer knows that I have been buying a lot of things from them for years, so he took them to a corner of the shop and spoke to them to calm them down, they later returned and asked me to compensate the dealer with at least N50,000, the dealer told me to take the goods and go, and anything I give him, he will appreciate, in the end, I paid an additional N10,000 to him.

Call for your Bio Digester(Modern Soakaway) construction . It's an improved technology in the treatment and management of human waste and wastewater. This system effectively takes away all challenges that are associated with the conventional form of waste management.

Once you have it in place,

✔you no longer call trucks to come evacuate human waste,
✔ No odour
✔it doesn't attract flies or crokroaches,
✔just a small space is needed for it,
✔it's eco-friendly
✔and doesn't contaminate the groundwater

Work related risks along the road.

This is a very true story, happened to me around 2014.

I was coming back from Ebonyi state where I went to supervise my project building a duplex for a Nairalander. But my car was showing signs of having problems with movement, around Awkunanaw, I had to pull off the road when I noticed a lot of steam gushing out from under the hood of the car. I parked and did all I could, wait for the engine to cool, later, open the radiator and check the water level, wait some more and then refill the water. Then I started driving back home to Ninth mile.

It wasn't too late, just past 8PM and I was driving from New market area through Ugwu Onyeama towards Ninth mile. Then the worst happened, my car stalled and the engine went off completely, steam was oozing from under the bonnet once more. Obviously, my radiator seems to have overheated again. But this time around, it chose the worst spot to overheat.

This was a very notorious area where robberies happen most days, for one, the area is a very lonely stretch of road very far from habitation of most locals. The only people inhabiting the mountains around this spot are herdsmen, and they are not even visible from the road. In my front is about 2 kilometers of road towards the next village, to my back is another 2 or more kilometers of open road. Phone network service in this area is always limited. If you leave your car here in the hope of coming back to repair and retrieve it tomorrow, you won't see any single tyres or other valuables on the car tomorrow as thieves will strip it bare during the night.

I didn't bother to open the bonnet, I climbed down and relocated into the bush, climbed a small hill quickly and stayed to observe things, because I knew thieves will come looking on the parked car in minutes. I just said a prayer and believed God will take control. From the small hill, I could see the road and my car plus the surroundings clearer. Then I started making calls, while hiding the phone from showing lights which can expose my location.

I called my mechanic friend, Jimoh (his real name) he asked where it happened and when I mentioned Ugwu Onyeama, he let out a shout. I knew that if it's another person, Jimoh will never come out of his safety no matter the amount. But he promised to come rescue the vehicle. He asked questions and later came with a gallon of water and some tools, both of us were looking around while trying to get the car to start, and there were rustling sounds around the bush, maybe they were sizing up the situation, but I knew they are near. He was very fast too, in less than 7 minutes, he was able to fix the car and asked me to start the car. I tried once, tried twice, on the third try, the car started. Now, Jimoh had come with his own car, and it was parked right in front of mine, facing Ninth mile, so that it will be easier for us to move. He told me to get in and move, because the rustling is now very audible and close, but we couldn't see anything because everywhere was dark.

It happened so suddenly that I couldn't see the whole sequence of events that took place in two seconds. Jimoh was removing the bonnet hook while telling me to get into the car, as I was taking a step, shouts of "hold it", "stand there", "if you move I shoot," "stop there" filled the air as two men came speeding at me from across the road, one fell flat as he stumbled, and i swung the door open, climbed in and closed the door, pinning it.

They were soon at the door, banging the door, hitting on my car body, pulling at every door and hitting the butt of a long metal which I suspected to be a knife on the glass, "open this door now" was shouted and repeated so many times from both the drivers and passengers sides of the front windows. God is always God. He was able to save his people, the glass couldn't break and I didn't open the door. But I had a problem, I couldn't move.

In my haste to get into the car, I didn't see where Jimoh went to. Is Jimoh in his car? Is he crouching below my bonnet? What if I moved off and run him over? What should I do? His car was still parked at the exact spot, and I couldn't see enough to convince me he was there, did they abduct my friend and maybe holding him behind the car, beyond my view? I couldn't get answers to these questions and I stayed a while longer, trying to reason with the men raining blows to my windows. Nissan Pathfinder glasses seems very tough, But it was God that toughened it against the metal they were hitting on it. I asked them what the problem was, even when I knew they were robbers, this lasted for about a minute or two, I had to open the glass some inches and slid about N7,000 or so in 1000 naira notes to them, this seems to calm things a bit, and the banging on the window reduced, they were still asking, where's your phone, give us that wallet, I refused, revved the car a bit and started moving slowly out, revving the car and moving slowly was to warn Jimoh, in case he was under.

I came out slowly to the Express road and sped off, then I started calling Jimoh again but the network was poor, I had to run the whole 2 kilometers before his line connected, he was sounding frantic, he told me he ran into the bush and has been running since, making his way to Ninth mile. I did a U turn on the Express and came for him, while calling friends far away to tell them what is happening out there. I located him on my way back, and despite his protest, I drove him back to his car where he came down, entered his car and drove off towards home, I followed him till we came back to where many people lives. The car broke down again, and I had to abandon it as it's a little safer in this second spot. Went home and slept well, thankful for God's mercy and his protection.

We reported the matter to the police and that was it.

Hmmmm my boss you lucky to have your goods with a token compensation for tye dealer.

My own story is quite different but related to yours . A customer paid 1.7m naira for cables in the month of May and it was on Friday evening. I got to factory on Monday and discovered that the price have changed without notifying us. I was restless and don't know what to do. If I go back to the client it will be as if I wanted to play some games on him. When I calaculeted the difference it was about 215,000 naira . I called some friends to explain everything to them, the advice given to me was that if I can absorb I should just go ahead and supply. I have to supply all tye cables in other to keep the client. And again I hate people coming online reporting

such a thing would have happened to me. At the peak of this inflation,a client made contact and after weeks of haggling price and him getting more quotes,we agreed on something. He insisted that he goes to the market with me to get the materials and that was my saving grace. We got to the market on Monday and I got the updated price list for what I want. Made a quick calculation and realized it can't work. There in front of the salesman and client, I returned the money.

He freaked out and tried to cajole me into moving forward with the business by telling me how unprofessional that is, I insisted that I can't do it at the said price. He angrily went back to the bank to deposit the money back.

I recalled my workers from his site and paid them from my own pocket for a ruined day.

I called some friends to explain everything to them, the advice given to me was that if I can absorb I should just go ahead and supply. I have to supply all tye cables in other to keep the client. And again I hate people coming online reporting

That was a tough one. Sorry about that, this country is turning into something else.

The best way to handle this matter in my opinion is to just relate the true situation to the client. We all know what is going on in the market. Transparency is the KEY. If your yes is your yes and your no is your no, then they will not question your refusal to move forward with the deal when the market prices has changed. I always check the market when my Builder gives me a quote and if they return for a review, i do the same to make sure the narration aligns. NEVER TAKE A LOST IN BUSINESS TO KEEP CLIENT; YOU ARE IN BUSINESS TO GAIN A LIVING.

Thank you my Oga. But Some clients do not reason in that way especially people in diaspora. They will think we at home wanted to cheat them since the money has enter suppliers account.

So many things are happening....

Why did you go ahead to allow those boys work at the site?
They are security risks, in the short and long term.

They're not security risk at all.

They can even yab the Engineer while work is going. They know you can't fire them once the work has begun. grin
