Growing up in Igboland, we were never raised by our parents to hate any Niger delta minorities. Our feeling towards them ranged from seeing them as our neighbors to some degree our brothers. This is despite the role some of them played during and after the civil war. In fact when GEJ came out as a presidential candidate, the average Igboman took him immediately as their own. The Igbos embraced him so fast that the Ijaws were shocked because it went against everything that they were told about Igbos.

I would like to say that there were few voices of reason on this forum that tried for so many years to warn Ndiigbo about the niger deltan minorites and their feelings towards Igbos but so many Igbos ignored them.

But to God be the glory Nnamdi Kanu came along with his version of IPOB. This forced the average Igbo person to start paying attention. The first couple of years of IPOB emergence, many Igbos were shocked at the level of hatred that the niger delta minorities were pouring towards them. Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB unknowingly made average Igbos to finally see the true colors of Niger delta minorities.

This is a lesson Igbos needed to learn and finally they heard it loud and clear.

This Igbo generation will be different from their parents generation. Thanks to Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB helping to show them the reality.

I doubt IPOB or MNK did this knowingly.
If anything, IPOB and MNK were ignorant and frustratingly so, as far as relationship with minorities is concerned.
They practically stalled the movement by stupidly trying to accommodate obviously disinterested minorities.

No that was not MNK IPOB intention. But the unintended consequence was that it exposed the true feeling of minorities towards the Igbos.

This is something the average Igbo person had no Idea about.

This was an unintended consequence.

Remember, it is one thing to say you reject IPOB which any reasonable person would understand but it a totally different thing to use it as an excuse to spill and expose all your hatred for Igbos that you have been harboring for years.

Ndiigbo needed to know that that hatred exist and I cannot thank MNK"s IPOB enough for indirectly helping to expose it.

Be calming down..
Jonathan Presidency made Niger delta .. especially the ijaws feel like they don arrive .. during the peak .. they started feeling like say Na their oil made Jonathan president ..

They became arrogant and started seeing themselves above igbos, smarter and looked down on igbos ..
brought one kind subtle hatred of igbos in ijaw especially bayelsa .. down to ijaws in southwest , those in rivers were very loyal to Patience till tomorrow. ..they started seeing patience as igbo woman that was controlling Jonathan ..
By the election year the saw that Jonathan has became a political orphan.. and igbos were only humans still loyal to him.

Part of the reason Asari supported Kanu 2015/16/17 till Buhari government start negotiating with Gej and considering them .. bought them over and made it seems like igbos were the reason why they kicked Jonathan

Na my people .. we know ourselves even for the bayelsa.

You’re right majority never knew about igbo hatred..
but minorities have always hated igbos .. maybe except the Efik.. they’re best allies igbos will have in Niger delta

Pls note . By Niger delta I mean ... Bayelsa Rivers , Akwaibom , Calabar.. ##

Other minorities see igbos as domineering with much excess .. they hate igbo guts .. same they wish they have.
They all have funny names for igbo people ..

Same way igbo call them ndi mba mmiri..

No be today.. it’s been like that..

The good will Igbos once had for them and automatically gave them without any hesitation has gone forever. Most Igbos within the past 6 years have finally seen their true nature.

Unlike our parents generation that is very forgiving and forgetful, this current generation isn't. We are the ones that will run things in the future and our experiences will make us act differently.

So some Igbos expected love from those minorities that you plan to annexe their lands and force them into a Biafra nation that they don't want to belong to? Do you guys think at all?

Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB movement was very inclusive but most Igbos wanted a nation of their own. Nnamdi Kanu happened to be very vocal about his intent but most igbos never liked that idea.

If today is not your first day on this forum, you should have known this.

I wonder why you people will just fix your narrative plainly on social media jagons .
There is no such thing as Igbo and Niger Delta hatred anywhere in reality.
What we have is ipob and Ijaw hatred. An average Igboman you meet does not infuse his time in senseless tribal bullcrap he is out there to make end meets and get good financial standing.

The point of this thread is that Ndiigbo are in a better place for knowing the true intents and feelings of their neighbors. This will hopefully put them in a better position to make good decision about their future. Whether they remain in Nigeria or not.

This wouldnt have been possible if MNK led IPOB didnt unknowingly expose this.

I feel that most Igbos now have a better sense of direction in pursuit of freedom.

This is a generational lesson but it needed to be learnt.

I believe what people say online over what they say in public.

Online people say their true feelings without mincing words.

In public, people pretend to be nice and put on their fake smile.

If you want to know how a group of people truly feel, meet them online.

Why should anyone be in doubt of how minorities feel about Igbos?
Don't we have the result of 1979 and 1983 presidential election where Zik couldn't get up to 5% of votes casted in minority areas?

How can MNK and IPOB claim to be abreast with history and they didn't Know something as simple as that?

My point is that the exposure of Ndiigbo to hate of minorities by trying to accommodate them in Biafra, was a very unnecessary and ignorant move by IPOB. It was very humiliating for me as a proud Igbo man, to watch IPOB eat the faeces of minorities and drink their urine even as these hateful lots kept denigrating and demonizing Ndiigbo, just because MNK had it in his head that his own version of Biafra MUST include these minorities.
It was very embarrassing to watch. Worst still, IPOB members had it in them that MNK was infallible, such that all attempts by proud Igbos here to call off the bluff of minorities who IPOB had inflated their ego and Sense of importance, were met by such Igbo person being labelled an AFONJA by IPOB members here.
You can imagine an old member like me whose loyalty to Igbo interests on this forum has been unshakable since I joined since 2007, had my Igbo identity put in question because I said the Minorities are insignificant to Igbo interests and Biafra.

Anyways, I'm happy that era is beyond us now.

We can all now move on.
I noticed that many IPOB members have finally come to their senses with regards to why we should be fighting for Igbo only country as we have been preaching since 2015 with many of them labelling me Afonja and other derogatory names here.

Agbachago egwu, chighatakwa na ukwu.

There is nothing good about intentions and feelings of minorities towards Ndiigbo.
Non whatsoever. Some of you are just insufferable and will never listen.

Be more diplomatic with them, yes! We should be diplomatic with everyone including the Hausa-Fulanis.
But good neighbors? Nah! Those people have never been good neighbors, some of you are just willfully blind.

Ndiigbo must have it in mind that those groups are aggressive Igbophobic and
expansionist neighbors. Especially the Ijaws.
Relate with them with the above knowledge in mind and we can never go wrong. cool

Lol!
Ijaw Igbophobia has nothing to do with GEJ ascendancy.
It predated it. Asari Dokubo admitted during GEJ 2011 campaign that he was brought up like most Ijaw people with the indoctrination to hate and vilify Ndiigbo.
The Igbo sheer number and population always elicited the feeling of insecurity on many minorities.
They feel they can be assimilated by Igbos.

I also noticed that there has been a rapid rise in Ikwerrephobia among Ndiigbo since the past one year.
Not only have Ndiigbo learnt to accept that Ikwerres are not and cannot be Igbo, we have also learnt to appropriately return their hate for us with even greater hate.

I was in an Igbo group few days ago when Ikwerre issue was brought up. Nnaa, if you see how toxic and repugnant many Igbo youths were at the mere suggestion that Ikwerre were Igbos eh?
I was just nodding my head in happiness and satisfaction. My efforts all these years were not in vain afterall.
Hate MUST be countered by nothing more other than bigger hate.
That's how it works in real world.

The modern Igbo youths were not well informed about these groups by our parents, many of us grew up with innocence and were exposed to burning hate on trying to relate with these groups.
It took time for many of us to make sense of it. But we currently have. And believe me, we will be better of for it. grin
IPOB didn't help issue by brainwashing youths from embracing the very Truth starring us all, because the truth was a big dent and gaping hole in their Utopian Multiethnic BIAFRA delusions.
But the truth doesn't go away, it's usually bitter but once embraced, makes you stronger.

Now we can relate with these Minorities, not with illusions and delusions of non existent brotherhood, but as aggressive expansionist Igbophobic neighbors who have their own agenda that is much diverse from ours, and who truly have the right to push their own agenda even if it leaves us in ruins.
We must learn at same time to push and protect our own agenda, with every ruthlessness that it requires, without giving a damn if it left these groups at the brink of extinction! Their pain and suffering should not be any of our concerns as ours isn't theirs.

This is fair enough and must be well internalized by all Igbo youths and parties involved. cool
It has nothing to do with Yoruba or the North.

Bro! The hate is real, and I am glad igbos now know this. Just two weeks ago I was telling my mum and her elder sister about Biafra and the ipob movement and how I am in support. I saw the disappointment in my auntie's face. She started telling me that she hates the Igbo's, that the Igbos used to oppress them as minorities then in the eastern region. She said that she was denied of scholarship because she wasn't Igbo. And a lot of people still share this unfounded belief about the Igbos. And so I asked her, how improved is the ijaw man now compared to when we were part of the eastern region? How many scholarships do we get now? How much development do have now? This is over 50years since we left the eastern region, even at that, our oil was not significant as revenue to the eastern region. So, how did the Igbo oppressed us, I asked? She couldn't answer. They never took our land, they never killed us, as one Nigeria is doing. They never said our oil is theirs as the northerner is claiming. The anoying thing about the minority hatred on the Igbos is that their lives are not any better than the Igbo man. Not educationally, not in travel and life experiences. 50 solid years, yet no minority tribe can say they have become a super people with their freedom from the Igbo domination.

The way I see it is thst the idea of Niger Delta minorities hating Igbos is a subjective thing. Sure some of them do, but not all. I dont like to judge based on Nairaland where a Kanuri man cab easily claim to be Ijaw, or a Berom, claim to be Ibibio. I like to judge by video

One way to see this is the issue of Biafra. There is a growing movement of the minorities on social media who want to follow Igbos into Biafra. If you go to face book and search for 'coastal Biafrans tv' you will find Ijaws, Ogoni's etc who are campaigning to be part of Biafra through interactive live video sessions with their people

When you go to Idu Biafra tv(Edo Biafra tv), you will see Edo's like Omote, Uwasofia and Onajite, leading a movement for Edo and Delta state to be part of Biafra.

Ibibio Biafra is led by another guy I cant remember his name

Would all these people be agitating to be with Igbos in Biafra if they hated Igbos?

This is what I don't understand about the Igbo.

They are a brilliant race of people, industrious, and very numerous. In fact, it is their sheer numbers that we in the North truly feel intimidated by. How can a tribe with a only a handful of states be so numerous in EVERY state in this country?

That aside, the fact is that Igbo are a majority tribe, fighting for and allying with small minorities who often times are not grateful that they have a major tribe courting them. If Igbo were truly smart, they would play the game like a majority, by linking up with the other 2 major tribes and taking what they want from any minority.

That is how the game is played politically.

Igbo stood shoulder to shoulder with the ND over resource control issues when the SE sees very little benefit, when they should have stood shoulder to shoulder with the North and increased the amount of money that is shared federally as we all benefit when it is shared more federally instead of being distributed solely among groups in the ND.

I can't fault your logic at all.

Our support for GEJ in 2011 when we could have insisted he stepped down for the North to finish their tenure and hand over to SE is another case in point.

If we were ruthless enough and not sentimental. GEJ could have been thrown under the bus by us through declaring support for a Northerner to complete Yaradua tenure.
You can be sure that if the roles were switched, that's exactly what the SS would have done, you just have to look at the civil war and the presidential elections of 1979 and 1983 where they threw us under the bus to protect their own interests to get the gist.

I think going forward, alot has to change in how Ndiigbo relate with minorities and indeed the entire Nigeria.

It should not be about bitterness towards any group, neither should it be about solidarity or useless sentimental non existent brotherhood towards any group .
It should constantly be about protecting Igbo interests irrespective of who gets left in the lurch just to protect those interests.

You totally missed the point with your comment. It’s one thing to reject MNK’s version of Biafra but it’s totally another thing to spill vile and hatred towards igbos.

Most igbos support igbo only country but Nnamdi Kanu supports a multiethnic country. Being the loudest voice with a microphone, those who hate igbos saw it as the perfect excuse to unleash their venom.

But in the process, they exposed themselves.

The hatred was planted deep in them by the british and the fulani nigerian state so that there will be confusion in the former eastern region for them to steal crude oil easily without any major challenge.

It has already began. look at the PIB law that just passed. Did you hear one single resistance from Igbos?

When the coming generation comes to power, they will remember this time period. No more sentimental non existent brotherhood.

Just strictly Igbo interest whether under one nigeria or outside of it.

Those people are irrelevant if the minorities in the south south really want to be part of biafra let their traditional and political leaders speak for them.

Yes. I was impressed with how we handled the PIB bill.

I expect such maturity going forward.
I also noticed that when some people were all over the internet crying about how the PIB was unfair to them, Ndiigbo maintained a golden silence, knowing fully well that it isn't really our battle.

This our generation has learnt a lot of lessons within the last two decades that would serve Ndiigbo well for eternity.
